I started at Eden with excitement in 2022. Support was amazing, flexible work schedule as you create your own schedule. However about 6 months ago, I was talked to about missed visits, despite my hitting my quota. You are required to cover 3 counties spanning about 85 miles. Full time is about 4 visits daily. My 3 year old car has 108k miles. Missed visits were excessive as I was being assigned 35 visits per week. You do set your own schedule, however visits are assigned by other clinicians blindly, as they do not see your schedule. To make it worse, you are not paid to miss visits and it takes several minutes to document each missed visit. 
I document everything, and like to do so accurately. If you need to miss a visit, you have the option to do a "miss" or "decline." A "miss" is used when the patient cannot meet with you with a variety of reasons available to click. A "decline" is to be used when the clinician cannot meet, for reasons such as flat tire, illness, out of town, etc. You are not allowed to ever decline a visit as it creates a great deal of work for office staff. Staff paid hourly. Social worker not paid hourly except for meetings. So, when you have 45 visits assigned by others, you are not allowed to click decline due to clinician full, or unavailable as it creates work for office staff.  You are required to miss, then track the visit, document the actual reason why in a clinical note, then write an order to the doctor. They don't want you to click decline as it ties up office staff. Makes financial sense for them, but not for the clinician who does this unpaid. The support is now terrible. I sent a request for help as a loved one died the day I returned from vacation. I put in for one extra day, unpaid.  I had 45 visits. I sent email request help and explained I was taking one additional vacation day unpaid due to loved ones death. No supervisor provided a condolence, and then she stated I was given excessive bereavement, when I had not taken a single bereavement day. Thankfully, my human resources record shows accurately that I took only vacation and zero bereavement. Management is dishonest and will twist things to remove any accountability from them. I have never left an employer with immediate resignation. I did so with Eden, as I've never received such poor supervision and dishonest practices as I did here. If you decide to try it out, maintain records and maintain healthy boundaries or they will walk all over you. 
As for their boasted "Great Place to Work" award...they send out spam emails asking you to complete the form. I did not complete this years. Just be careful. 

A Typical Day at Work: A typical day at Eden Home Care involves coordinating with our care managers, supporting our dedicated caregivers, and ensuring that our clients receive the highest quality of service. My role requires balancing administrative tasks with client interactions and problem-solving, which keeps things dynamic and engaging.

What I Learned: Over the years, I’ve learned a tremendous amount about leadership, team management, and the complexities of home care. I've also gained a deeper understanding of patient-centered care and the importance of flexibility when managing a diverse group of clients and staff.

Management: The management team at Eden Home Care is dedicated to personal and professional growth. We continually educate ourselves to better support our caregivers and clients. The leadership here genuinely cares about making improvements and fostering a positive work environment, which makes a noticeable difference in the overall company culture.

Workplace Culture: The culture at Eden Home Care is collaborative and team-oriented. Everyone is driven by a shared commitment to providing excellent care, which creates a supportive and friendly atmosphere. There’s a strong emphasis on teamwork, and you can always count on your colleagues to help out when needed.

The Hardest Part of the Job: One of the most challenging aspects of my role is managing complex client situations while maintaining high standards of care. Balancing administrative responsibilities with the needs of our caregivers and clients can be demanding, but it’s always rewarding when things come together successfully.

The Most Enjoyable Part of the Job: The most enjoyable part of my job is seeing the positive impact we make on our clients' lives. Knowing that our team’s efforts bring comfort, safety, and companionship to those in need is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, the camaraderie among staff and the chance to be part of a passionate and growing team make every day worthwhile.

Everyone has different experiences with different companies. Some of my coworkers truly enjoyed their job. I, however, was not so fortunate. If you are looking for a position with clear structure and guidelines, then this may not be the one for you. To say I was inadequately trained would be an understatement. I tried to tell my supervisor at the time I needed more training before being placed on my own, but I was disregarded and as a result, spent months trying to catch up and learn what I should have been taught during my initial few weeks. 

I was also harassed by a coworker for months. When I reported it to upper management it was not resolved. The employee was given a talking to, but their behavior continued for quite some-time after that, until it naturally fizzled out. This 'senior employee' has a well-documented record of an aggressive training style and hostility toward new hires, but they are a 'valued employee' so the behavior is allowed to continue.

When I went to HR with a question regarding a policy my new supervisor had put in place, my correspondence was shared with that same supervisor. I was (mistakenly) under the impression that I could go to HR confidentially. That's par for the course with Eden and their management style, though.

If you do choose to work for this company, make sure you learn who is related to whom as there are SEVERAL personal connections throughout all levels of management. Mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, life partners, siblings, cousins...most everyone seems to be related to someone in the organization. Also, the building thermostat is turned off during the weekends. This is the building policy, not Eden's, but since working weekends is required for someone on the team, some lucky soul gets the pleasure of working in sweltering heat in the summer and chilly temps in the winter.  

As I said, some people really enjoy working for this company...as for me? I've never felt so undervalued in the workplace. Good luck if you do decide to apply, and don't say you weren't warned!

Eden has grown into a company that strives to find the right fit for their staff and promoting from within when possible. Patient care is a huge focus for our company. We are an employee owned company so it really does belong to all of us. We believe that by taking care of our patients and our staff that the financials will follow. I feel like my voice and ideas are heard. There were some rough times earlier in my time with Eden but that happens with new companies as they go through growing pains. Luckily those times have past and I am reassured by the feedback I get from our staff and patients.  I hear from patients all the time about how much they love their clinicians from Eden, which really increases my love of this company. Since I am blessed to be able to go to each site, I get to meet staff at all of our locations and am constantly amazed by the compassion and caring nature of the staff that I work with. They are not in this for a paycheck but instead because they want to see their patients do well and be able to safely stay in their home. 

I first came to Home Health because I wanted to be able to spend one-on-one time with my patients and really get to educate them so that they would be set up for success. I must say after starting in home health I was hooked and never wanted to leave. I enjoyed working in the field but I also loved educating the staff and setting them up for success in the field. I have gained that same passion for hospice as I have experienced first hand what they do on both the personal and professional level. I don't think clinicians know how wonderful an opportunity it is to be able to help a patient and their loved ones in the home.

We do work hard in Home Health, Home Care, and Hospice and flexibility is important to support to help your patients and your team. It is important to remember that you are part of a larger team, so you are never alone and help/support is only an email, phone or video call away.

Run as far away as possible you do not want to work for this company! This company doesn’t care about its employees, just their cenus. Clinical staff gets about a week or so of training and then your thrown in the deep end with zero float. Then your reprimanded for inadequate documentation. You work your daily schedule and then your charting ALL night. If you put down firm boundaries you won’t last long. The amount of people who would start, then do training, and work a month then quit was over 20 or 30 in the last couple years, Some current employees and past employees I’ve spoken to talk about after their hire dates and months of employment starting to suffer from poor mental health, high anxiety, panic attacks, high stress, depression and overwhelming anger that boils over into their personal life. To say your mentally drained is an understatement. If a patient complains about the care they receive it’s the patients fault for being difficult or non compliant, it’s never the agencies fault. The management takes zero responsibility and accountability for the consistent turn over, or short staffing. The company has gone down hill in the last couple years. The good thing is, if your looking for a place to work and want to be the flakiest, lazy worker this is your dream job because they are so desperate the only real qualifications needed is a license and to be breathing. Search this company under various names, Empres, Eden home health, Eden health, Eden home health and hospice…they try to trick you! 

Abysmal training on skills, being on-call, or documenting. If you are a nurse, especially a new grad, go somewhere where they give you more than a few days of training. There was a lack of clinical support, where I often had no one to call for any follow-up questions, such as the clinical director. Many times, there was not even an assigned primary doctor for cases (imagine calling a dead number to notify a doctor about an issue). You were essentially on your own. The pay was also terrible. You would have to review the cases the day before, call the patient or facilities (OR BOTH) to schedule visit times the day before, drive to homes which might take over an hour to get to at the far corners of the county, conduct the visit, drive back, finish the lengthy documentation you couldn't finish during the visit, and then follow-up on any corrections and any messages that you sent to the doctors on subsequent days (medication corrections, non-urgent changes in clinical statuses...). All for a set payment per case. I barely made anything when you factor in all that time, not to mention the wear and tear on your car. There was no assigned nurse in the front office to immediately follow-up on cases, such as when doctors sent back messages. Hypothetically, there were case manager nurses, who were poorly trained in case management, but most of the time you had to follow up on those cases, yourself. There were also times where you had no supplies to do the job in the homes, such as flushes or PICC line kits. The EMR also was very time consuming and did not connect to hospital EMRs. Absolutely terrible. 

While I enjoyed most of my time here, I found that the hiring process was a bit deceptive. Many of the benefits that were promised aren't actually available until you've worked for multiple years, and there are many extra work tasks thrown at you that are not compensated. BOMs are on call with no additional pay and that was never mentioned during interviews, onboarding, and it wasn't park of the job description.

There are also policy violations with family members managing each other. That is explicitly prohibited according to the company handbook and policies. This lead to blatant favoritism. Some people are also able to work remotely doing the same job, while others are forced to come to work to a completely empty to nearly empty office. 

Training is subpar and I was often told by the person training me that they don't know how to do certain things or they weren't sure why they are doing certain things. 

I loved working with all the clinicians and office staff. It just felt like a very messy company to work for due to the extremely high turnover rate. At one point I had onboarded three clinicians and within a month they all left. The retention rate was in the 70% if not lower at some points. 

I am 1 month in after joining the Eden team & for colleagues I must share, I am highly impressed!

I am an over 10 year nurse, 25 years in the workforce & I have never had as high quality of an onboarding as Eden had provided. It’s what I’ve always hoped for! They support achieving best practice standards so well. It’s been an honor to witness their well appointed care delivery. As a rural ranch kid growing up & now a passionate Certified Hospice & Palliative BSN RN, I am grateful to have found the culture at Eden to support the growth we will need in keeping record numbers of people home. And, with exceptional care, which is a priority of mine from many standpoints. 

As a colleague, I encourage you to consider them for a great source of PRN income. They are also a great way forward to meet changing demands of balancing work/life. This place is a complete mess! From the beginning i was lied to about what to expect working at Eden. I was told i would be working 32 hours a week,  64 hours a pay period.  I haven't come close to that in the year and a half i worked there. Benefits suck, PTO accrual sucks. I was let go for productivity because when visits would fall through(which they did A LOT!), they wouldn't replace my visits even though i was letting them know in a timely manner like they had requested. When i asked them to elaborate, they immediately shut down the conversation.  When i asked to be properly compensated for driving 1-1.5 hours one way driving in busy city traffic (which again i did not agree to), they didnt deny my request, they simply said we were a "team" and go where the patients are when i was hired on and agreed to  a specific territory.I was struggling to pay my bills while working here. The pay per visit model for home health is a scam. The work culture and management is pretty toxic. Continuity of care is a joke and patients can feel that and will mention to you how they've seen "5 different nurses"  since they started home health services. 

The corporate office incentivizes its employees to leave reviews on all searchable sites to keep the star rating up, all good reviews are likely false or done by a carefully selected marketing team so don’t buy it! I would not suggest working for this company in any capacity or any location. So much turn over, always short staffed but the work load is still the same. Management pushes their staff harder than anything I’ve ever seen in my 12 years in healthcare. The turn over is so high that inexperienced staff get promoted to management over and over. The sign on bonuses being offered is because this company is not competitive in their regular wages with other agencies and I’ve seen many clinicians leave before receiving the full bonus because it’s simply not worth it. Run as far away as possible you do not want to work for this company!
