Management completely ignores its staff, except for those few favorites. The favorites can also do no wrong, and even when they do, it's brushed under the rug. Gossip is everywhere. And if there is a problem between staff members, management is useless, and tends to take sides, or ignore the problem completely, then pretend to be baffled when there are consequences like someone quitting or residents notice.

Residents are ignored as well. Residents will ask for help or a meeting with a director and are told they either have to pay more or just wait. Even when they're asked to see a nurse because they aren't feeling well. There was once a strong-willed resident who had a problem with the staff and reported it to staff, who reported it to the directors. Directors claimed they talked to them and "everything was fine and she never complained." Everyone who knew that resident knew that could never be true.

There were also residents way higher than the level of care staff was able to take care of, but were allowed to stay because they paid more, becoming a danger to themselves, staff and other residents. But it's all about the money at Edgewood, so directors turned a blind eye, again, until there was a consequence like an injury. Then they pretended to have no clue (and blamed staff for not reporting - which they always did.)

Depending on your shift, you'll get no help whatsoever. If you work evenings after directors leave, you're on your own. If you work nights, getting help is an absolute joke. I was never even taught how to properly use a gait belt because the head nurse would always say "don't you know how busy I already am?" But if you ask for help, you get excuse after excuse. If you stand up for yourself, you're scolded. Directors also lie through their teeth. To staff, to residents, to each other.

No one in management at Edgewood cares about the residents. Not long before I left, the one director said to me that we had to get our census up purely because that was the only way they still got their Christmas bonus (a bonus the actual caregivers and CMAs do NOT see or get). 

If you actually care about taking care of those who need it, don't work here, because god knows Edgewood directors and higher ups couldn't be bothered to care too. Secrecy, gossip, cliques and greed, that's all that place is.

Typical day at work will come with additional duties which were not specified in original job title be clear to understand this or you will be taken advantage of for already an underpaid and understaffed work field. As well it is common you will have to pick up your co workers slack this happens often due to understaffing constant call outs and lack of energy from your peers. Burn out unfortunately is very common and consistent. Many days are highly stressful and constantly busy due to tight time management and additional duties expected out of you that don't come with your job position.

I have learned many good skills on how to take care of elders, this work field can be rewarding specifically on how to tend to elders. I have also learned on how flawed our medical system is when it comes to providing genuine care to our elders. Management and corporate truly tunes out when it comes to residents concerns. Leadership is lacking which trickles down the line of staff, multiple staff loose motivation and authenticity to care anymore due to their frustrations and burnout.
Management leadership is poor and when they attempt to listen it seems to go in one ear and out the other.
Workplace culture is mostly females which feels unbalanced with a lot of drama and gossip in the air.

Hardest part of the job is attempting to meet expectations which get added on that were not part of the original job duties in the contract. Therefore, it feels that you are being taken advantage of with no positive feedback or wage increase. No care is given just negative feedback if the expectations are not met. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is making residents smile and making their lives easier by assisting them with their needs. 

The reviews don’t lie! We are constantly understaffed (job security, I guess)  we are over worked and very under paid there is no competitive wage. Lots of work drama and gossip and the coworkers at this location would rather throw you to the wolves than to teach you the right way to do things. Training is absolutely horrible, half of the employees don’t even know how to use the phone they just let it ring to another side. Residents are not cared for properly and they spend a lot of money to live here. We cannot properly care for residents when we can’t keep staff for longer than a month. Managers in memory care are supportive, but the upper management don’t really care about you. If you are sick or so exhausted you’re falling asleep walking they still make you work the RNs won’t come in to help out. I was in a lot of pain after getting some teeth pulled, I couldn’t even do my job, I called the RN and told them about it and they told me to suck it up because they weren’t coming in to cover me. One day after doing 5 doubles, two 12 hr shifts, and an 8 I was so tired I again couldn’t do my job and I asked the rn if the float could cover my floor so I could take a couple hr nap to finish my 16 hour shift and she told me that she couldn’t allow that. Some of the LPNs are good others are not the LPNs that work in the pm are horrible. If a resident falls we can hardly get them to come over to memory care to assess the resident and help us get them up. Memory care is very neglected at this location when it comes to the nurses. Afternoons are almost always 1 staff member to a side in memory care so showers can’t be done. That’s one staff member to 10-15 residents half or more of which should be in a nursing home facility not an “assisted living”. This was my first job as a PCA/CNA and I do not recommend it, I wanted to quit after a month, I have stayed almost 8 months and it’s constantly stressful. I spend my free time at work looking for a new job as do many of my coworkers.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Coworkers who thinks it's professional and acceptable behavior to not call in if you're not coming to work do not text to say you're running late or just simply just don't show up at all. 
When I express the unprofessionalism of this behavior I was told it's the Idaho way. 
Where I come from in the big city it is totally unacceptable behavior and very very unprofessional.

Also I found it very unnecessary to  start waking up 90-year-old clients at 4:00 a.m. to start getting them dressed for the day  just so the morning shift that comes on doesn't have to do bother with it because they have  meds to do in the morning. 
We would put the clients back to bed after getting them fully dressed for the day.
That was the most stressful part of the job because the   residents
 ( clients ) would plead for me to let them sleep longer.
It broke my heart " every morning "  when I had to tell them that 
"I was sorry "
but that wasn't an option .. I have orders to start getting them up  at 4:00 a.m. 


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It had good days and bad days. 
But for the overall very good days 
4 a.m. was stressful because clients did not want to get woke up so early to get dressed for the day only to be directly put back into bed after getting fully dressed.

A typical day at work in an assisted living community can be busy and varied, with staff providing care for residents and planning activities. Greeting visitors, answering the phone, managing sign in and sign out for visitors and residents, providing information, sorting mail, replying to emails, sending and receiving faxes, printing documents, schedule appointments for residents and schedule rides for them. 
You really learn patience in this job field. Communication and teamwork. Time management Attention to detail, compassion. Scheduling and transportation.
Management is awesome! They are very caring and supportive. Always willing to help. Easy to talk to. They understand the work life balance of their employees. 
The workplace is very positive. The community involves the employees in the process of changing and creating. Always communicating, making gradual changes, always starting with a clear vision. 
The hardest part about working in health care I would say juggling tasks and watching the residents decline in health.
The most enjoyable part of working in health care is caring and connecting with the residents. Working in an assisted living community is like having 100 grandparents and they are excited and happy to see you when you arrive! It is truly that connection between the residents and co-workers that is the most rewarding part of the job.

Ever since I started, there has, consistently, been co-workers that have been there for years (keep in mind this is in the kitchen) who are continually negative towards their work, the residents (not directly, but behind their backs) and to other co-workers like myself. One of the managers is constantly degrading and negative towards me specifically; I feel like it’s because I’m the only other guy there consistently (all the other workers are female). I do not enjoy working with about half of the regular morning/day shift workers. They are consistently arguing over nothing, complaining about the work, grumbling about “no one doing their job”, etc. For myself, I feel specifically targeted. I have a medical issue where I only have about 8 inches or so of my large intestine due to a surgery after my birth. This forces me to regularly go to the bathroom for extended periods, usually for about ten minutes every hour or so. This has never affected my ability to work at any job, including this one, and I’ve never had to tell any previous establishment that I have this, EXCEPT at this job. And everyone I work with is, or should be by now, aware that I have this condition, and I know for a fact that at least half of them do not believe me, or still decide to complain behind my back about it. 

Overall, the job itself is pretty good, decent pay, friendly residents, and relatively flexible hours. But the majority of the full-time, long term employees in the kitchen are so unbelievably negative and shunning of other workers its ridiculous

Working as an Administrative Assistant has been a rewarding and positive experience. The role offers a great balance of organization, communication, and problem-solving. I’ve had the opportunity to support a professional team, manage schedules, handle correspondence, and keep the office running smoothly.

What I appreciate most is how much the position has helped me grow in time management, multitasking, and customer service. Every day is different, which keeps the work engaging. The leadership is supportive, and I feel valued for the contributions I make.

It’s a role that requires attention to detail and strong organizational skills, but the effort is recognized and appreciated. I would highly recommend this position to anyone who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment, helping others, and being the go-to person for keeping things on track.

Loved working with the residents everyday I was here. I Learned all I know about working with people who have dementia and Alzheimer's disease how to redirect, negotiate, and be very patient. Also worked in a assisted living building and learned a lot about lots of peoples cares and lifestyles. A typical day at work contains the responsibility's of toileting, 30min checks,shower assistance, exercising,grooming,getting dressed, and any cares as according to there care plans. The most hardest part of the job is the  low staffing and the exhaustion because of low staffing and having/wanting to pick up knowing residents need the help and care. Staffing has a lot of drama and people talk a lot behind peoples backs and a lot of reports to management will be a complaint from another staff member but you 'll still have a written form "coaching and correcting" even if you explain the situation they still will have the form and make you sign it. They also require a 30min unpaid break even when they are low staffed as much are and most of the time you wouldn't get time to take one due to cares of the residents when short staffed but  thus being said  if you dont take one it could lead to disciplinary action. The most enjoyable part of this job was getting to know a lot of great people more and more everyday experiencing lots of different things and being able to help and make a huge difference in peoples lives every single day.

People never show up on time, so if call lights are going off you are expected to answer them. In addition, every single day there are call in's and there is no mandating so if you are scheduled to work a shift with a call in you will be required to do your work in addition to their work. This is the most stressful job I've ever had. The work there is also so monotonous and you do the same exact thing every single day so it makes the job itself boring. Housekeeping won't clean this up either because they are lazy and don't like to do their jobs. If you love your sanity do not apply here. You will lose your mind. The stress is unbearable. Not just from all the medications you have to pass to all the residents but because of all the extra work you have to do that they don't tell you about. The stress of this job will cause you to lose sleep at night and no one will care if you do. At this job they also have so many residents there that are considered two person transfers and they are heavy and they will have falls. You will be expected to get them up even if you are only 125 pounds. Just trust me when I say this do not apply here.

Starting my career here right out of nursing school has been one of the best decisions I’ve made. I’ve been working as an LPN for 9 months, and this experience has solidified that this is where I want to build my long-term career.
