This place presents itself well. They are incredible at hyping the company and how much it cares about the employees but It’s all a lie. 

In my role it was a job requirement to have a diagnosed mental health condition and or recovered from an addiction. Then they overload you with back to back appointments with zero time in between them for even a bathroom break. Their advice was, “it’s ok to be 5 min late to an appointment”. At the time I quit, I had over 70 members assigned to me with no slow down of new intakes being added. I voiced over and over to all of my supervisors that I was overwhelmed and asked repeatedly for a cap on my members assigned to me. To me that is a reasonable accommodation for someone with a disability. Instead they added more members. 

My addiction that I was “recovering” from was THC but after unrelenting stress, I went back to it. A mental health/recovery center drove their employee to relapse and adversely affected their mental health. 

One of my roles in addition to non stop appointments was to find resources for members but there was no time to do it with the appointment schedule. They also wanted full care plans completed on the first visit with a new member. So a person struggling with addiction meeting me for the first time was expected to be comfortable enough to set their treatment goals in the first appointment? Sure. Like that will work. My experience is the first time I meet them, this was not their first attempt at sobriety, they were guarded and suspicious. The last thing they were comfortable with was setting personal goals with a total stranger but we weren’t allowed to give them a chance to be comfortable first. 

Documentation was expected to be completed during the appointments but I recognized that is not ideal when you have a member telling you something intimate such as being r*ped or abused as a cause to their addiction and I’m just typing away and not giving them my undivided attention. That is not supportive and not how you build trust. 

I was not allowed over time but was expected to have all documentation done and all resources located by the end of the day. I often worked through my lunch and put in about 10+ hours a week of unpaid overtime to get everything done. However once they heard I was working overtime without authorization I was told I could be terminated for that. Very supportive. 

A co worker in another state told me he had over 100 members assigned to him and he had a breakdown resulting in a psych unit stay but upon returning they increased his workload. 

With all of the stress they put on employees that are required to have a recovered addiction and mental illness, their insurance was horrible so you couldn’t even afford help if you did need it. And forget scheduling time off unless it’s a month or more out (so forget dr appointments) because your schedule is packed. Calling off just dumps your packed schedule onto a coworker with a similar load. 

The place was toxic and created just as many addicts as it helped. Save your sanity, DO NOT work for them. Plus the pay was terrible.



What is the best part of working at the company?
I guess the best part was under the disguise of being gaslit. They don’t have a budget for ANY upgrades & the tools they had when I got there weren’t adequate to complete the job I was hired for. It was like being asked to start a fire under water. And I made due with the free resources I could find but at some point they needed to be willing to invest in the company & they just weren’t. You can make a business case for the software you need, strip it down to the bare minimum requirements, even schedule a meeting with the vendor to discuss special pricing options. No dice. Bottom line, they’re dinosaurs & well, we all know how that story ends. Extinction. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being told resources are on the way for months and they never arrive was one of the most stressful parts of working there. I actually enjoyed doing what was considered my job but it’s clear now - being gone 6 months later & still seeing their online presence in shambles they never had any plans on upgrading or acclimating to compete in the market. They are professional dream sellers. If you pitch it do not expect them to hit that ball. A lack of progression. They don’t adapt well to the idea of new tech & they lie to themselves to think they are tech-forward when they’re really tech-minimum. Like bare minimum.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
On an upper management level they are very toxic. Most of them don’t have a clue what they’re doing & if your responsibilities spill over into their job title God forbid you actually put your job description to work and make something happen. On the regular employee level it was very results oriented, what can we do now to make this place more productive for all of us and possibly enrich the quality of service we provide to our clientele. Bottom line it’s a bunch of suits that wouldn’t know culture if it was staring them in the face & they’re so ancient they don’t have the bandwidth or understanding that when you become stagnant your brand dies.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A typical day was me doing the work and waiting for a meeting to get approval, then another meeting for approval and feedback, then another meeting with someone else for approval, feedback and the thumbs up for financing. By the afternoon all of those meetings were null & void due to budget. So a waste of time everyday. You’d be better off pitching ideas to a rock or another inanimate object that you don’t expect a response from.

Eleanor Health said all of the right things in the beginning and many of us bought it. We were told members would never be discharged due to inability to pay, but less than 3 years later, many members are being referred out due to losing their insurance coverage. Their mission states they help people with addictions live amazing lives, but that only applies to those who are able to maintain consistent insurance coverage. The uninsured are not welcome at this organization, which prevents a large part of this population from receiving the services they desperately need. Most of the clinics are severely understaffed and employee burnout is rampant. They laid off 20% of the company in December 2022, but hired several highly paid executives the month before. The massive layoff was executed coldly, in a group Zoom meeting with no HR representative present, 11 days before Christmas. Most of the layoffs were the boots on the ground - peer support specialists, therapists, and administrative staff - the member-facing employees that were working directly with the members and making a real difference. Concerns about understaffing, patient care, and ethics fall on deaf ears. Again, they say all the right things - "we hear you" is their go to - but change never occurs. High performing employees are constantly expected to do more, while lazy employees are allowed to call out of work frequently with no consequences. Work loads are enormous and expectations are ridiculous and unrealistic. Employees can't give members the attention they need because the schedule is crammed so full they have to jump quickly from one appointment or phone call to the next. Administrative staff is instructed to take copays from members whose insurance plans don't have copays, or cancel appointments if the members are unable to pay their small copays. Employees who advocate for the rights of their members are ignored and ultimately dismissed. If you have a genuine desire to help people who have substance use disorders, or if you value a work/life balance and your own sanity, run far away from this company.

I worked for this company for about 6 months. It was pretty good for about 2 months. I began to see my workload increasing at a pretty fast rate. As a result, I began to see my stress level increase as well. I spoke with management multiple times regarding the effects of this rapid increase in the workload. Side note: when I was hired, they neglected to tell me I would be the ONLY NURSE working the busiest region and that my region was considered a hub. Being a hub means clients from my region and surrounding areas could and would be seen by me. In morning zoom meetings, they would ask if support was needed. I needed support; however, in some cases it wasn't provided. In other cases, support  was grudgingly provided. On other occasions, no support was given at all.  A temporary fix was put into place which lasted all of 2 weeks(basically a bandaid). The crazy part is I was expected to be ok with this increased workload with no help in sight. I don't do "fake" well so my displeasure was obvious. This company is still in the start up phases so numbers are what really matters. They wont admit it, but it's obvious that numbers(money) is the priority. Even if it means, stressing the staff out. After a few months of this and voicing concerns to management to no avail, I became more visibly frustrated with the situation. In a weekly meeting with my "supervisor," I was advised that the "team" could see my frustration and lack of engagement in meetings with the "team" and they needed to see a change within the next few days or in our meeting the following week there would be  a different conversation. I was basically threatened like a child due to my displeasure with their business practices. Needless to say, I quit that same day. I hated to leave my clients so abruptly but I don't do threats and my stress level was thru the roof. 
Long story short: if you wanna be overworked, underpaid, stressed and lied to by management then go work at Eleanor Health.

Overall, their concept is great and could work fantastically for the people they serve. They just need to put better processes and leaders in place to carry out their mission.

Unfortunately, Eleanor Health sells a dream to its employees that is simply a thoughtful idea  and not something concrete. They draw prospective employees in with high wages and salaries only for every second of your day to be micromanaged. Management 
 displays favoritism towards a select few and will intentionally put the job status of the less favored employees at risk. Employees are regularly instructed to not ask questions in both group meetings and small meetings with direct supervisors. Any attempt to improve your work performance whether through brief feedback or a sit down conversation is viewed as a threat to management and will be swiftly disregarded. Despite one’s best efforts to be a “decent” employee, your work will be redistributed to the favored employees and used against you as a reflection of your alleged inability to meet company expectations. Coworkers are forced to secretly communicate with one and other due to strict time management regulations. Unrealistic expectations and ever changing work protocol are a daily occurrence. If you’re unable to pivot on a dime, you will be told how you should never have accepted the job offer and to walk away. The only relationship that is fostered here is between Eleanor Health and their payors. 

This job has excellent pay and I love the fact of working from the comfort of my own home. Typical day is work with angry members who lash out because they are not ready for recovery, yet they call in for HELP. Seems they are just looking for prescriptions and more meds and angry when not qualified. Most people who call are not a good fit because we don't accept their insurance.

I don't like the fact that no matter how many people you help and how many excellent calls you have they f on the little small things done wrong. Management NEVER acknowledges the hard work, just the bad calls or experiences you had. The task and duties are ever CHANGING DAILY and it's always a problem with tech issues. It's so irritating to daily with computer problems and a Tech guy who has no clue what to do. 

PT and time off is great and flexible. Staff works with you to accommodate needs. I have learned to stay to myself and in my own lane bc speaking up is FROWNED upon. Lay offs are high, they ALWAYS find a reason NOT to pay bonuses and change benefits. It's a start up company so jub security is not at all certain. I wish they do better with acknowledging the greatness and not focusing on minors mishaps as we ALL have them. 

There was no formal 1 on 1 training , you get sat with a person who is the busiest person at another clinic and are expected to learn on your own from watching them work in super fast paced and hectic environment, no boundaries set up with members with phone calls, no clear policies for anything, manager seemed annoyed to deal with anything you had to ask and kicked the buck to someone else, very impersonal and isolating, clinics not set up to fully function and expected to just deal with it and still have members in clinic , a lot of no tolerance policies, phone calls are not recorded to back you up as an employee, take members words and testimonies over the employees and do not have the employees back or willingness to coach on a mess up or error , would rather terminate employee then teach from error made, understaffed and to much expected of one person.

Working with community members.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
No support from the person you report to, management and leadership only care about quantity versus quality, do not care about the mental health of their employees. Lack of communication, being tasked with other things that are not part of your role, toxic work environment. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you are part of management and leadership then you’ll fit right in with no issues but if you’re in member-facing roles or in non-clinical roles, you will experience the toxicity of this place. No room for growth, unrealistic metrics to reach bonuses, be prepared to see community members back to back. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Some days I have 3-5 meetings to attend with 10 back to back appointments with community members. The only time I have a break is lunch or if a community member no shows.

Poor clinical support for clinician. Nursing staff is limited be cause of frequent turn over. Clinician are often required to virtually room their own patient- (complete screening tools, urine screen, and med reconciliation) during their schedule visit, complete prior authorization,  address pharmacy issues that could be taken care of by nursing staff, follow up on lab request, provide information on resources in the community without any administrative time in their schedule. Clinic staff can be scheduled 3-4 new patient intake appointment, often back to back. Written policies that are not consistent with other company policies and can not actually be followed as written. Can take 9 -12 month for credentialing

So far so good.

Incredibly grateful to be part of the Eleanor Health family. The onboarding process was incredible. Whether on the clinical side, or the national side, everyone goes through proper training to learn how the organization operates.

As a data/technical person, I appreciated being side by side with the clinical staff in my cohort. It gave me great perspective in how the work I would be doing, would trickle down to support the clinical side and especially our community members.
