Working as a dietary aide has been a steady and hands-on experience. The job mainly involves preparing trays, serving food, cleaning, and making sure residents or patients receive meals according to their dietary needs. It can get fast-paced, especially during meal times, but once you get into a routine, it becomes manageable.

One of the positives is the teamwork. Most coworkers are supportive, and you build a rhythm together during busy shifts. It’s also rewarding knowing you’re helping people, especially when they appreciate the service.

On the downside, the work can be physically tiring. You’re on your feet a lot, and shifts like 2–11 can feel long. Depending on the workplace, management and staffing can affect how stressful things get—short staffing can make the job more overwhelming.

Overall, it’s a good entry-level healthcare job that teaches responsibility, time management, and patience. It’s not always easy, but it can be a solid stepping stone if you’re interested in healthcare or just want stable work.

My job was to communicate with the residents on this floor about what they wanted to eat and drink for dinner and desert. I would arrive to work and go set the tables and prep the drinks for the residents. Based on their diets I would have to make sure certain foods or liquids were modified so that the resident can drink or eat it safely. 
I Demonstrated customer service skills through interacting with residents with severe cases of Alzheimer's and Dementia. I utilized strong attention to detail through monitoring the behavior of the residents.
I also Used Patience and understanding when taking orders from residents who struggle communicating or needed meticulous supervision.
I developed awareness and caution of my surroundings in the care of my residents and communication with accompanying faculty.

My experience working at Eliza Jennings Nursing Home over all the work load is decent. But be prepared to handle all. Personal staffing issues yourself. The scheduler runs the building and if your not on her good side be prepared to be denied vacation requests and overtime. Some staff can come late everyday and call off once a week and receive no discipline. Pay is low

My experience as an aide so far has been fantastic! I love working with the residents. Getting to know the residents' likes and dislikes, and learning about their lives makes the days extremely rewarding. I enjoy being with the residents that don't ordinarily enjoy much, and when I just spend a little extra time with them it puts them at ease and usually I get a smile out of them.
     I'm considered a "float" which means I rarely stay with the same residents more than once.My average assignment is usually anywhere from 9-13 residents. I have also mainly been working in a memory support locked unit. So I have become familiar with dementia. I have a difficult time trying to find other people willing to be a team player with me. Most residents require at least 2 people for transfers and it makes the day run smoothly with a partner.

Nothing to say 
This place isn't horrible, but it isn't great. It has its flaws like every other facility. The perfect facility unfortunately does not exist. We are currently in the middle of management changes and it seems like it has changed for the better. The RA/scheduler/payroll supervisor is great. She is always willing to listen to your concerns and help you in any way that she can. Yes, there may be days you have to work the floor by yourself, but you can easily get on the walkie and ask for someone to come help you. Most people will answer and assist you. Most of the residents are nice here and easy to take care of. If you apply to work here, come in with an open mind and don't let anyone scare you away. You will never have more than 28 residents and half of those are independent, so don't let the numbers scare you. It is not a nursing home. Just answer your pages in a timely manner and assist .

Great management, fellow staff members nice to work with.  The residents are all very gracious and family members are appreciative@

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Med pass at times.   Sometimes pulled away from what you are doing to speak with family.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Feels like family, supportive management 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Starts out very busy in the morning with med pass, making sure everyone has had breakfast.  I get a break around 11:30 am.  Charting throughout the day, and other med times also through the day.  Sometimes family members need questions answered, and the NP comes in and will write orders.

This is by far the WORST work environment I have ever been in or even seen. Management has NO idea what their doing, the nurses don't lift a finger to even help with anything and they usually don't know any answers to questions that are asked, there is 100% favoritism coming from management.  Good luck with any kind of team work if you do end up working there. Also, don't be fooled by the sign out front that says ASSISTED LIVING. There are maybe a hand full of residents that are assisted living,  everyone else is full on care, sine even a 2-3 person assist. And most of the time there were only 4 of us working. It is a 3 story building with a full house. Management does not help. The pay also sucks.  Basically,  Eliza Jennings (Devon Oaks) is a joke.

Every day at Devon Oaks Assisted Living is a different day. There is always something new to learn and experience to build. Working for this organization makes me want to do the best work I can. Relationships with resident's and families makes this job very rewarding and leaving you feeling needed and appreciated every day. Many of the departments could benefit from more team building and taking accountability when necessary. With that being said the culture here at Devon Oaks need's to be improved with more support involvement and help create a nurturing environment. The best part of the job is being involved with the resident's and watching them create their own friendships with their fellow neighbors. Overall, I feel that my career goals can be met at this company

Eliza Jennings is a place of true character where the staff go the extra mile to provide compassionate care to our Residents. My days are filled with meaning and purpose and everyone around shares the same work ethic. I truly enjoy my job and the difference that the Team work makes for everyone. At Eliza Jennings, I have value and management recognizes it and shows appreciataion. The staff have longevity and our environment resembles a home that we are privileged to be a part of every day. Experience has shown me that not all facilities share the warmth and closeness that is found among the staff and residents at Eliza Jennings and I am so glad that I get to experience it and be part of it every day!!

I enjoyed working here, it was my first job out of nursing school and the pay was good for a new nurse. Raises were minuscule .. I enjoyed the residents, their families, and support staff. Management was going through some "growing pains" during my time there. That was not always pleasant- but not unusual for a place with high turnover on the upper level. Many of the caregivers were long time employees- Overall it was a nice work family and experience .
