Enviro-Clean

I had issues with this company as soon as I started working with them.
The pay rate was agreed at a certain number. My first paycheck came back and looking at my paystub, I was getting paid a dollar less an hour than agreed. Getting that corrected was a longer process than necessary.
Training consisted of showing the building and basics.
As a fill-in, I was scheduled to work at multiple buildings. Not once was I given accurate and helpful information for each building. Telling someone to “clean” but not saying exactly what to clean and not to clean.
In the beginning I was informed by my lead that I didn’t need to take certain trash out. Staff complained about trash not being taken out, I got in trouble for it.
This happened multiple times with different situations, making it look like I’m not doing my job when I am simply doing what I am being told.
A family member passed away, and my manager was upset because I needed time off to take care of my mental health and due to religious reasons.
I became extremely sick weeks later, so I contacted my dr and my dr instructed me to get tested for COVID and stay quarantined, again my manager was upset and texted me everyday when I told her that my results do not come back for 72 hours.
Thankfully I tested negative so I was able to resume working.
Due to the company being understaffed, there were days where I had to work overtime and didn’t find out until I got to work.
Trying to get gloves, masks, trash bins, face shield, chemicals, was the process of asking management multiple times to provide the materials, also required me to go pick them up rather than management dropping it off at work site.
After punching in one day, I was informed that I will be training someone for two days. No heads up, no warning whatsoever. Very unprofessional on their end.
Staff informed me about several rooms being contaminated with COVID and had COVID positive people in that room. As precaution from my knowledge, the room stays closed and no one enters until someone trained goes in there to decontaminate.
Over the weekend I receive a text from my manager, informing me that I needed to clean those rooms. I responded saying that I refuse to enter those rooms without the proper equipment and training.
Went back to work the next day, received a call an hour into my shift from my manager, stating that I am obligated to enter those classrooms. I told her that I will NOT put my health at risk. The tone I received and the words she said upset me to the point I punched out and left.
Next day I get a call from someone who didn’t tell me their title with the company, informing me that what I did was not smart, and my attendance is “horrible” and told me that I no longer work with the company.
If you want to work for a company that has no human compassion, and is willing to put their employees in hazardous situations without the proper equipment and training, and decide to insult you before they fire you, work for them.

I am currently an employee at Enviro-Clean. I operate a Hilo at a warehouse and manufacturing environment. My responsibility is to empty cardboard recycle bins and trash bins, sort pallets and load them into trailers, switch out recycle totes and load full totes into a trailer. I also use a baler to process cardboard and a compactor for trash. 

The job is a mix bag of pros and cons. On one hand I do enjoy the fact that I don't have to deal with management constantly breathing down my neck micromanaging me half to death. I am in complete control of work flow and how the job gets done. Stress is really not much of an issue even though my job is fast paced in nature. There is not much in company politics. Though I speak from working alone for the most part. Bottom line the job will keep me moving without a doubt. However being in control of what goes on with the job and the solitary nature of my job makes it well suited for someone that is burned out on in job politics and has little tolerance of being constantly micro managed by the stereotypical boss.

The cons though of my job reside in the management and weak benefits. The pay is a little below average for a Hilo position but not by an excessive margin. 12 per hour is my pay. I could make a little more since the average pay of a Hilo driver is 12.80 per hour. The health insurance is very weak. I pay 76 dollars out of my paycheck every two weeks and I'm saddled with a 3000 dollar annual deductible. I really need better health coverage since the weak coverage is a burden on my finances. The management though good tend to be slow to respond to issues and sparatic in maintaining company policies. It's really no fault of their own. Management often finds itself having to cover for vacant job positions due to a chronically consistent high turn over rate. 

I would recommend this job for somebody just starting out in the work force or someone like me that had been out of the loop for awhile and in need to get the foot back in the door.  I do not intend to work this job as a life long career. It's not suited for that. It's best to hold a job like this as a stepping stone to somthing better.

I worked for enviro-clean for about 4 years. I enjoyed the building that they had me work at, and the people who worked there appreciate all the work I did. As for enviro-clean, they couldn't care less. Not once did anyone from enviro-clean thank me or tell me I was doing a good job. Even when the people at the building you work for email your managers and tell them how great the building looks since you got there. (Some of us talk to the people we work for.) The communication between enviro-clean and there employees is an absolute joke. The managers rarely come around and when they do, it's only when they need paperwork filled out, and if you have any questions about other things, they say they'll get back with you and never do. If you have an issue with a manager and go to HR, they just tell the manager what you said and then they hold that against you. If you need time off for anything, you might as well just call in. As you won't get the time off, but when you need something, or have a question about a policy, they use the excuse that the person you need to talk to is on vacation. I was even told by my manager that I need to punch out and then keep working to finish the job. When I mentioned that was unlawful, the subject would be changed. If you get the health insurance they offer, you pay 10% of your check for a single person. They expect you to pick up extra hours to cover for the people who call in, but working OT just cost you more for their junk insurance.
I would only suggest getting a job with enviro-clean if you're in between jobs. Don't stop looking for a job.

While working with enviro clean, I was told I'd be cleaning offices.  Turns out, I was cleaning a factory, that had one office in it.  Most of my time was spent cleaning bathrooms for factory employees that acted like animals.  Human waste on the floor and walls, trash everywhere, feminine products not properly disposed of, etc.  The office portion was just as frustrating, because employees are still working during my cleaning time.  The office people would get really upset at you if they thought you were "trying to listen in on trade secrets" as if I gave to whatever's  about their stupid product.  

The factory workers themselves were often hostile, and uncomfortable to be around.  They liked to try to steal things off the cart, or block my way so I couldn't perform my job.  

Enviro-clean themselves are completely unaware of what they are doing.  The main office would tell me one thing, while my boss told me another, while the main office would call me again and they'll me ANOTHER thing.  There is no communication.  They advertise benefits and paid vacation as perks of working with enviro clean.  However, you don't get any of that unless you work forty hours a week.  They specifically schedule you so that you never get that many hours.  

You also only get two days off a year if you aren't full time.  Two days.  No sick days.  You have to schedule a month in advance.  Calling in sick was grounds for termination for me.  Yes, I'm serious.

Don't work for enviro-clean.

What is the best part of working at the company?
You get to work on your own after getting ‘trained’ which is nice when you just want to focus on cleaning and keep yourself busy. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There is barely any communication. Barely any training. If you have a question for your boss or assistant you’re  ignored. Then when the older assistant comes in to grade you, there’s now a whole bunch of things you are supposed to do that you didn’t know you had to do because it wasn’t a part of the minimal training you get. If you have an emergency or an appointment; you can’t leave until you get ‘permission’ in which you still get ignored and if you end up leaving you get a write up. 
There is no consideration for the employees that make the company work. The boss and assistant in Allegan don’t consider people have things that happen, get sick, injured etc. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You’re expected to know everything without being told. The other cleaners are great but you rarely ever see them.
You will almost never get a good job going above and beyond. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You punch in through a phone, and start your day as you were hopefully trained. Each day is pretty repetitive so if you like consistency it’s great. 
I clean all my assigned areas, and punch out. You’re usually working on your own and you get to keep an earbud in and listen to music or podcasts.

The job itself is pretty cut and dried. Clock in, check contract for the day (or days), load utility van with equipment, drive to contracted facility (paid for drive), do job, drive back and clock out for the night.

A couple of the crew members are genuinely good people, but the majority of the crew is basically the archetype of a January 6 insurrectionist.

Custodial staff turnover and reliability is horrible, which is why the company has its own full "Support staff" category, who are assigned to constantly cover spots that people quit or called in on. Support staff also suffer the terrible turnover and work/life balance is atrocious, so Special Services often covers Support staff. Horrible labor organization.

Special Services crew often drives past other Enviro-Clean branches on the way to jobs. Don't know how the company can afford the overhead of inefficient logistics.

Most of the older guys like to stop at gas stations to pick up cigarettes, chain smoke in the parking lot, then make up for it by speeding to the work location while chain smoking cigarettes in the work vans.

Manager is minimal in effort to coordinate and problem solve for their crew, and is usually clocked out and gone before anyone starts getting ready for their job for the day. Often, when contacted with questions involving how to work around obstacles or unexpected adversity, their response goes along the lines of "Do what you can."

The day to day job requirements weren't bad. As a support position, I had to fill in when others called off or take on extra work at times. The companies and warehouses I was sent to work at were reasonable and friendly, but the Enviro-Clean management in Grand Rapids was rough to say the least. The manager was consistently in a bad mood and would lash out at employees for things completely out of their control. I observed myself and other employees being forced to stay multiple hours after the normal shift at the warehouse because a very small portion of the laundry had been missed or overlooked and the manager decided to stack up multiple days of laundry to dump it all on the employee unknowingly at end of shift. I had observed employees being held in meetings for upwards of 20 minutes after when they needed to leave to make appointments because somewhere along the line the manager had lost or forgotten that said employee had informed them of said appointment. Once the employee reminded them during the meeting, management proceeded to knowingly hold them at said meeting. Your mental health is not worth this place, at least not the Support position. It seems like the stable positions located at specific places fare better. 

While the account I worked at treated me well, my Enviro-Clean management team was awful. They give you conflicting directions, micromanage to the point where you can’t get all of your tasks done in the allotted time, do not communicate any new changes in tasks they want you to perform (and mark you down for it on inspections), and will not work with you on taking necessary time off. The most despicable thing they probably do is during this pandemic, when it’s recommended you stay home if sick, they will do everything they can to not let you take that day off, including and not limited to arguing, threatening to use that time against you for disciplinary action and being condescending with you after the rare occurrences they do let you take that time off. 
From what I experienced, this is a toxic company to work for and I would recommend you look elsewhere for employment unless truly desperate. I also highly advise the company do an inventory of their supervisors to see how they’re treating your employees; it might save you from losing more  accounts. 

I maintain a level of cleanliness that makes the environment welcoming and presentable to clients. I assist with any needs that may arise such as set-up or tear down of meetings as well as clean up of accidents that may occur and report all maintence issues. I'm also responsible for stocking and ordering all paper products and coffee needs for break areas and bathroom areas. 
  I have learned that there is a network of people I can depend on for help with issues as they arise and they will find the answer or willing to go out of there way to find someone who can help.
   I am constantly juggling my schedule do to change in daily schedule as clients needs dictate.  Yet i have learned to have a few different schedules to rely on to get the tasks done that I need to get done.  
  It is has been rewarding to work at my placement due to the building I clean for the staff is very appreciative of my work.  It has been enjoyable getting to know the staff and clients and that I make their job easier when I do my job.

Working at Enviro-Clean was not a positive experience for me. While the company provides employment opportunities, I found several aspects of the workplace challenging. Communication from management was often unclear, which made it difficult to understand expectations and stay informed about changes. Staffing shortages frequently placed additional pressure on employees, leading to heavier workloads and increased stress. Scheduling could be unpredictable at times, making it difficult to maintain a healthy work-life balance. I also felt that employee concerns were not always taken seriously or addressed in a timely manner. Opportunities for advancement and professional development seemed limited, and recognition for hard work was inconsistent. Although I worked with many dedicated and supportive coworkers, the overall work environment did not meet my expectations. In my opinion, the company could benefit from improving communication, employee support, staffing levels, and leadership practices to create a more positive and productive workplace culture.
