We have worked at Epiq since 2020 and 2021, let us give you a heads up about what to expect as a document review attorney. A check… nothing more. But while you do work, the review managers are great to work with personally but you can tell they are being pressured by superiors to hurry things along. 

You are told there will be pay increases, but none of us have seen one in over four collective years, 2020-present. We live in different states also. 

Your told you get insurance, but that’s only for those that can get a set number of hours to where, by law, they must offer it to you, and then it’s terrible. P.S. that probably won’t be you. (Private BCBS plans are better and more cost effective).

Let’s see….oh! Paid days off….yep, you’re  told you get those as well. But, you don’t. Not one hour. Ha

 Retirement and retirement match. You’re told you get this also. And to be fair, you do, but… (wait for it) The thing about all those “benefits” are, they go away if you miss ONE pay period because you are “terminated” between project end and until you receive your next project. 

What does all of this mean? It means that in between assignments your time resets, then once you get on another project you must “onboard” all over again. Every single project. Then don’t forget, you that project must then last more than a month before you’re eligible for them….if you onboard…  It’s so much of a headache that none of us actually do anymore. It’s become a running joke between us reviewers. 

But here is where it gets really shady, if you don’t go through the onboarding process every….single….project after missing one pay period, they terminate you, rehire you, and reset your withholdings you had set to ZERO. You heard us right, they switch your withholdings to zero. Therefore, even if your there longer than a month, you’ll likely think your withholding for retirement and really not putting back one nickel. Consilio (yes Consilio) has a better retirement match and they don’t “terminate” you to save money between projects where your withholding amount defaults to $0 upon rehire, like Epiq does (no other company that we work at does this) *Side note on retirement, if you get Robinhood Gold retirement account Robinhood Gold matches your retirement better than Epiq does. Sad huh?

Why would Epiq do this? Glad you asked. To prevent them to spending one penny more than they have to on you. To look good on paper. Just like an Epiq review manager once told us in a housekeeping meeting, “Epiq is the cheapest company you will ever work for and refuses to pay for anything extra, including downtime or tech issues.” The pay is the second lowest in the United States for remote work, Consilio only comes in lower. Epiq offers the least benefits among them all and is the shadiest. 

Our advice is to use them for a check only. Give them what they give us, the minimum. If you’re looking for better review companies, Consilio pays less, but offers better long term benefits and does not breath down your neck nor whip-crack you like Epiq does. KLDiscovery and Tower Legal offer better pay and benefits, and actually give raises and offers OT. There are others. Jump on an email list for job updates…you see them.

This review was a collective of three current Epiq document reviewers currently all working there. We have been truthful because we wished someone would had been with us in 2020 and 2021 when we applied. Hope this helps if you are considering employment and what to actually expect if you work there. Perhaps they will change, but it’s doubtful. 



I worked at Epiq for a total of two days through Adecco. At the end of my second day, I was asked to go to the Adecco office in the building. I was told the staff didn't think I was a proper fit for the job and that my position was being terminated. Since this was all very abrupt, I asked why this was the case. Although I wasn't given a clear answer immediately, I was later presented with two reasons:
1. On the first day, I disappeared for 30 minutes.
2. On the second day, I was 30 minutes late.

Both of these statements are false. On my first day, I asked my supervisor if, because it was a shorter day, we would be taking a lunch break or not. She told me no, however, she then said because I was caught up with what I needed to do, to go ahead and get something to eat, as long as I was back by 11 AM. I did just that, and was back on time. After my position had been terminated, the supervisor later claimed I had misunderstood what she had told me, but this is not the case. She said very clearly that I could get something to eat, just as long as I was back by 11. If she hadn't told me this, I wouldn't have left very briefly to pick up food, and instead would have purchased a snack from one of the on-site vending machines. The idea that I simply misunderstood her words is ridiculous and insulting.

On my second day, I arrived at work at 9 AM, when I was told to appear. I logged into my work station shortly after arriving, so there may be a record that I was indeed at work on time. The claim that I was half an hour late is a complete fabrication, there is nothing more to it than that.

I am still completely appalled at how unprofessional this was. I was never even given a chance to do any work, instead being cast aside as if I didn't even matter. I had been brought on to work at Epiq when I was in a financial crisis, and the position brought a spark of hope to my situation. To then have it taken away based on two false claims left me devastated, and the fact that I was not even able to clarify what had really happened told me how much this company really values its employees.

Although I would be open to working with Adecco again, I will not ever again consider working for Epiq, nor will I ever recommend anyone else doing the same.

I was not provided with any training. Tech support did not keep a formal knowledge repository. Support operators kept their own notes and most would not share any knowledge, development teams provided zero training or assistance for either new or unresolved pre-existing bugs in their new application releases. Only the QA team provided any type of assistance since they were aware of the bugs in the new releases. You were left to try and learn everything on your own. In my 2 years there I tried and help new operators resolve issues and created a formal knowledge repository for everyone to use. 

Constant turnover about 50% per year, many good workers left on their own due to the culture and working conditions,  others were let go for no reason other than not being part of the company clique. I worked  for 3 different Directors of IT Support in the 2 years i was there, all were very good managers but let go for no apparent reason. 
 
There is a total lack of support from senior management. There is minimal support from middle management, basically because they are overworked and do not have the time. New release of production applications have known bugs from previous release still unresolved. Sales and development would promise clients that the bugs were resolved in the new release. Clients would take out their frustration on tech support when they realized new releases bugs were not yet resolved. 

Employees are suppose to receive a bonus twice a year. In the 2 years i was there, they never gave out any bonuses and always had an excuse, even though they had very profitable years. By far the worst IT job I ever had, possibly the worst job I ever had. I worked as a dish washer and gas station attendant while going to school and those were better jobs. 

Highly recommend not taking any job here unless you are totally desperate. If I could give negative stars rating i would, a horrible place to work.

Quality people, equipment, and facility, but very political and adversarial from the top down. 

Epiq does not value its employees. Management consider employees to be disposable and does not value their contribution. This is probably the reason why they never invest in people.

Executives flies in their private jets and regularly spends thousands on meals (no, it's not for the entire department) but the workforce pays the price when the profit suffers.

Management don't even understand the business or processes but pretends to be interested and constantly provide misinformation to clients

Most people feel like the company is sinking and the rest are afraid to lose their jobsThe problem starts at the top and consists of a lack of team mentality. The CEO's teams are set up to compete with one another rather than to team together to accomplish a task. That mentality flows all the way to the worker bees.

Professionals who come into this company expecting to be treated as such are going to be sorely disappointed. They treat their employees as though they don't trust them and put control points at every turn. They dictate what wallpaper you have on your screen (in fact, they disable your ability to change it). They dictate what your email signature must look like (no variance allowed).

It appears that managers are chosen based on how well they network with other managers. I've seen some really poor leadership here, and then seen those incredibly poor leaders get promoted to manager. I'm appalled by this institutionalized approach to failing.

Epiq Systems is not budgeted to hire more permanent people. Epiq systems has mostly contracted employees. They can fire and hire at any time without discretion or warning. I was not fired but I ended the assignment due to lack of training and a lack of help from the Accounting Analyst and other co-workers. 

A typical day at work consisted of a lot of confusion for me. I was only trained 1 month when it takes 3 months to train for the position I filled. The quality control at Epiq Systems is not good. 

Asking management or other co-workers for help or information is a difficult challenge. 

I was not given the help, information, or tools to do my job in a timely manner. I could not focus on my job because the Accounting Analyst did not want to do his/her job. 

The most enjoyable part of my job was a flexible schedule and an open cafeteria. The staff was about 50% friendly. My job became not flexible when our department was overwhelmed with work and we were told in a meeting to work as many hours as possible to fix our departmental problems since there were not enough employees. We were told if we had a problem with life/work balance to speak up. Nobody spoke up. Everyone looked mad and nobody said anything.

I learned that I would like to work at a company that has pride in training their employees and offers permanent employment with a good work/life balance.

Nothing about working here was super hard. It was a bunch of little things but once you learn, you're all set! Epiq is extremely flawed though. When I was hired, no one was clear with me about what I would be doing. I had no idea I'd be working at a law firm until my first day and, even then, I had no idea what the work would be. When I asked in interviews, it was glossed over ("You'll wipe cafe tables, arrange pick-ups and deliveries, and assist the client in any way"). Epiq NEVER says no to the client, even if it's ridiculous, even if they're asking for something impossible ten minutes before closing. If you're gonna work here, just know that epiq will put the client ahead of you at all times and sometimes that means working until midnight but most of the time, it means that the client is allowed to be rude & demeaning. If you have a family or other obligations in the evening, this isn't the best place as they moved my schedule several times. I am young and single so it wasn't a huge problem but it's not super understanding of familial obligations. On site management is sweet for the most part, they will be on your side, but they are also just as overworked. 

We also NEVER worked from home. Again, the client comes before you, even in a pandemic. The client arranged for taxis to come get us but Epiq could have cared less if I caught COVID on the bus. These guys openly don't care about you, please think twice before performing labor in their name.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The lack of training, inconsistent communication, extremely top heavy in constantly changing RULES and supervised to the Rules without the Holistic leadership & development Experience. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not Cohesive, Rather Disconnected, Inconsistent communication, top heavy in constantly changing Rules, experimental, strongest fish survive, shortcuts on training which impacts the quality of customer service and standards of quality for the Client. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Working Remotely shifting back and forth between performing 2 different jobs and being scored to performance standards of 2 different jobs while keeping YOURSELF updated on constantly changing procedures & reminders & notifications for both roles that are performed thru out the day as business needs , takes impact on performance reviews, while responding to & acknowledging leadership communication and learning on the fly daily doing 2 different jobs and a very large ship shifting gears constantly leading to inconsistent communication which then leads to  compromised quality because there is no time for training, development & team meetings to stay abreast of the constantly changing procedures.

Work is incredibly unstable. Many are at risk of losing their jobs at any point despite not long ago being promised there would be no more layoffs solely because there’s no work available. I know many are temps and I know any temp’s contract can be ended at any time but the way this was handled was extremely shady. There is an extreme lack of communication from management although they claim they’re always transparent with us. I don’t know how you expect anyone to trust you and work efficiently when you turned your backs on us. I truly hate working here and despise all of you that lied to us but the convenience of working from home is too good to pass up right now. I was lucky to be safe from this mass layoff but my heart goes out to everyone that had no warning. This could have been avoided and handled much differently. If it was known work was so low, communicate that with us ahead of time. Give a heads up to those who are most at risk of losing their job because YOU read projections wrong. We’re expected to give a notice if we’re resigning, it’s cruel how you never do in return. Granted people were offered a position in different departments this time around but giving them only an hour to decide if they’ll take it is inhumane. People need time to recover from this, figure out how they’ll put food on the table and a roof over their heads. This company takes no responsibility for their own mistakes and workers have to suffer from it.

My experience with Epiq was when I first started I was working with a group of people doing Data Entry work on a computer. I didn't get much training on what I was doing so I would ask another person what to and I would eventually catch on. Once the information that we worked on was finished, we would wait to receive another email to return back to work. It was a nice job where we can work flexible with our hours and get paid every week. I also liked when we can bring our food and eat at our stations. It was a very convenient place to work and they will work with you if you had to take off. The problem that I had was the fact that the company only offer contract jobs and sometimes I don't know if the contract would go for a couple of weeks or a month or just a couple of days. There were times that everybody got sent home because there are no data entry work left to do, or we get sent home because the computers had malfunction. What really disappointed me was that the company had us out of work for about a month because there was no project available but when the company do have work available, only a few people would receive an email about returning back to work, while others are receiving emails stating that they'll let them know if a project is available. Working for a company where management picks and chooses who gets to make money and who don't is not my idea of a good job to work for.

This isn’t a bad gig if you’re in between jobs. It is project based and if they have no projects - you’re out of a job at the snap of a finger. So no job stability whatsoever. 

I got paid $16 an hour for document review!

However when you do have work it’s super tedious - you literally sit at a desk all day and look at useless documents to log for private personal information... luckily they are super flexible! You sign in and sign out your daily hours - as long as you do them between 7am-7pm. 

Team leads and ARMs seem very pretentious....which makes sense since most of them have like no experience in the legal field and that’s their first job out of school. They remind me of high school days and they’re all the douchey seniors. They have a very bad habit of openly speaking negatively about employees. But if you’re lucky enough to get Stephen or Jamie or micheal ...they’re super sweet and helpful!!!! The rest are too faced. They put on a show for Rebecca (the manager). 

Sometimes they have sponsored food trucks which is really nice ! And free bagels too. 

Overall decent job...if all you need is money. 
No job stability. No professional or personal growth opportunities. EPIQ doc review should only be the very last resort/ pit stop before you head out to a new job.
