A typical day at work involved supporting the Private Capital team with credit analysis, research, and financial modeling. I worked on private placements and asset backed finance opportunities, preparing credit one pagers and reviewing portfolio performance across specialty finance, industrial, and infrastructure issuers. Each day offered a mix of independent analysis and collaborative discussions with team members.

During my internship, I learned how to evaluate companies from a credit perspective, interpret covenant structures, and use tools like Bloomberg and internal models to assess return potential and risks. I also gained a strong understanding of the asset management decision making process, particularly how research feeds into investment recommendations.

Management was highly supportive and approachable. My mentors provided clear guidance while giving me the space to think independently and present my work. The team fostered an environment where asking questions was encouraged, and I always felt like my contributions were valued.

The workplace culture was collaborative, disciplined, and professional, with a genuine emphasis on integrity and teamwork. I appreciated how colleagues across different teams, including risk and actuarial, were open to sharing insights and helping interns learn.

The hardest part of the job was ramping up quickly to understand complex asset backed finance structures and industry specific credit risks. However, that challenge was also one of the most rewarding aspects of the experience.

The most enjoyable part of the job was working closely with experienced professionals and learning directly from their expertise. I especially valued contributing to real investment decisions and seeing how my work fit into the broader portfolio management process. The culture of mentorship and inclusion made it a meaningful and exciting experience.

In my almost three years at EquiTrust, I have had a wonderful experience and in a short amount of time I have grown exponentially in my career.    In this short amount of time, I have received one promotion, and annual merit based pay increases.  The company has an extensive benefit package, and very competitive pay. 

As it relates to my position, I have a solid understanding of what my job is, what my career path is, and have received excellent professional development opportunities.  I feel very supported  by my team and manager to do my job.  I have the opposite of a micro-manager.  He is available when I need direction, but stays out of the way so I can do my job the way I believe I should.  

I’ve been working there as a contract to hire new business role for 2 weeks and the supervisor was already demanding that I hit the production score immediately. I was let go immediately after 2 weeks for taking to long on my breaks and for not hitting my production (that’s what the supervisor told my hiring agency) The team atmosphere was horrible! No team interaction, no one was allowed to talk amongst themselves or we were given warnings. Supervisor had one of our co-workers supervise us at all times and she would write down what we did all day. It was so bad I had to start going to the bathroom the same time I took my break so I’d be attached to the computer mostly all day. The most horrible job I’ve had and will never go back.

I have been working at EquiTrust for 2 weeks now and have enjoyed every second of it! What drew me into wanting to intern for this company was the amount of time and effort they put into the internship program and to encourage interns to make the most out of their 10 weeks in the Summer. What stood out to me was the company's willingness to provide as many possible resources to become a better version of ourselves in the business world. This internship program has been one of the best that I have been grateful to be a part of. In my first week of interning, VPs in the company went out of their way to make personal and meaningful connections with the interns in their department and have shown how much they care about their employee's growth in their careers.  

EquiTrust Life Insurance is a fantastic company to work for! I recruit for various positions across the company, and I get the opportunity to work with people in all areas of the business and at all levels. I see and experience collaboration, encouragement and support throughout the organization on a day-to-day basis. The company is consistently growing by leaps and bounds and it's very rewarding to be involved and feel like I'm contributing to the continued growth of the organization, as well as helping individuals continue to develop their career paths. 

As a summer intern, I had great support from my manager, team, and HR coordinators. The workplace culture was incredibly welcoming, and we received clear communication throughout the internship on expectations and timelines for our intern projects. Projects I had the opportunity to work on were engaging and provided great learning experiences. Additionally, interns were encouraged and empowered to learn about and shadow different departments. I gained a lot of valuable knowledge from this intern experience and really enjoyed my time at EquiTrust!

This internship has been great because it gives me plenty of areas to develop my skills and make new connections. I feel like everyone has been really friendly and willing to provide support if I need it. When I have questions, I get quick responses that help me to move on if I have problems. This internship is also giving me experience and learning opportunities which has been very valuable. Overall, I am really happy that I decided to intern at Eqitrust this summer. 

The experience at EquiTrust varies depending on what department you work in.  I was hired just before the annual reporting with little to no training or guidance from management. Everything I learned was self taught with demanding deadlines and being understaffed in our department.  In regards to bonus and pay increases, the company treats everyone the same regardless the title or how challenging/unchallenging the work is for each individual.

This is a company that uses staring agencies to meet the ebs and flows of the labor demands. They don't require much if any experience and this leads to many people stuck in the job for an exceedingly long time. The training is short and you are thrown into the work immediately. They may move you into another department if yours is slow but it may be for a job you did not choose.

Safe yourself from working at this terrible place. I was let go while in training. The training was unorganized and the expectations while your still in training are unrealistic.

Safe yourself from this place and don’t apply. Also they use temps and dispose of them so if you see they are hiring temps frequently you know why.
