Accountability: Managers fail to balance the needs of personnel with their own responsibilities. I understand needing a day or two off, but frequent "sick" spells, underwater-basket-weaving "appointments" every other week?! Come on.

Profiling: If you stand up for yourself and question groupthink, you'll be ostracized. I was harassed by a superior, and am was told that nothing could be done. There's a reason why Ethos is only diverse among specific groups. Finally, HR is suspect, accessing information outside of the scope of their work.

Reviews are not transparent and you'll be left in the dark. Management often makes excuses for failure to provide context to their decision. But the truth is, y'all are just firing shots in the dark.

Questionable product/market fit. Employees are encouraged to market Ethos to families, but many of us aren't comfortable doing so with our own. 

Overall, Ethos is a dehumanizing environment. For any prospective employee, I strongly suggest you reach out on LinkedIn to get a sense of what the company is really like. 

And for anyone attempting to censor information - There are many reasons why employees fail to report toxic behavior to HR and are pressured to stay silent. 

What is truly suspect are phrases like "some other folks struggle in this kind of environment". Look at your data, and learn from it - not just the employees who were successful here, but the reasons why people left.

Ethos life, as a company made some radical changes during my six-month stand there. I love the work that I did, but they laid off half of our department two months into the job.  We were told there would be no additional layoffs.  Four months later, they laid off the entire partnerships team and have left life agents who work with them hanging out to dry.  They now have very little communication with their partner life agents and they have decided to move all in on a direct to consumer focus.  If you are an developer, beware of this company, as they are moving jobs over seas.  If you are a sales person, looking for a job selling life insurance, it may be a fit for you.  But I'd be hesitant to recommend them based on my experience. 

If you’re looking for a company that rewards hard work and intellect, and you want to be surrounded by smart colleagues, this company makes sense. Ethos is fast paced and rewarding, and we are always problem-solving. In terms of my work, the ownership component excites me the most. Everything that I do is making an impact on something that is long lasting. Everyone has a voice here.

Ethos has been an exciting startup to be part of over the last few years. For a company that is scaling quickly, it has kept its integrity and culture as it has grown. The employees are truly incredible - they are driven, talented, and motivated to support the company's mission "protecting the next million families". As we've moved to a remote first company, the team has done a great job adapting to remote work and staying connected as a team. 

Working there was OK -- nothing special or exciting. But then they laid most of the company off. They like to do this and have done it multiple times, despite endless yammering from the founders about how much they care about people. The slightest financial issue: lay a bunch of people off! We can do it cheaper overseas? Lay just about everyone off!

Ethos has not only lived up to, but surpassed my expectations based on what I learned in the interview process. If you are looking for rewarding but challenging work, potential to grow and shape your career and AMAZING and supportive people, this is the place to be!

Great working experience but management made bad decisions. Overhired and then Laid off ppl. Also they are setting up teams ofshore , keeping managers only and hiring groundwork ppl from outside. Don’t care for employers that much. Very business centric company. Everyone is overloaded and burnt out. 

Great coworkers and managers. Management was very nice and helpful. Good salaries, great benefits. They really care about their employees there. Cons were instability, unstructured. Regular start up cons.

Very positive work environment. Regular company outings, meals and snacks are provided daily. If you stay to work after hours, they encourage you to order diner as well.

Honestly, save yourself the time and just don't. Management is clueless on many fronts. Low pay and no accountability. Easily one of the worst companies I have ever worked for.
