At Evergreen Community of Johnson County, as a part-time worker, my sole job was to put the stock away in the dry storage, freezer and walk-in refrigerator. Many of the night shifts I worked, my responsibility was to make sure that the dishes were cleaned and sanitized, and that the preparation surfaces had been sanitized. The kitchen management was actually one of the best management experiences I've experienced in a long time. Many other opportunities of employment in my past weren't as easy to schedule around my schooling, but the kitchen manager wanted me to continue my schooling, and she worked around my hours very well. The job wasn't very difficult for me to perform, but working around my schedule to make sure I received enough hours was the most difficult part of the job. Sadly, I left Evergreen Community due to there being no career advancement opportunity.

I was initially really excited to work at Evergreen; their orientation made it sound like the most amazing place to be employed. However, it just wasn't an accurate representation of the day-to-day reality of working there. People were often very negative and rude to residents- this was the worst part by far. There was always grumbling about having to do their job aka taking care of resident needs. It got to the point that it was borderline violating resident rights. Leaving residents in the dining hall for one or two hours after they were finished eating was one issue that I noticed most often. Some co-workers were really great, but again, everyone seemed to dislike their job and overall it just wasn't a very fulfilling job experience. 

All of this to say, the residents were absolutely amazing. They were by far the best part of working here and made the hard days better. Evergreen pays well but it really does take a lot out of you.

I have been with this company on and off since 2009. I left the first time because I thought I was moving on to bigger and better, but quickly found out the grass isn’t always greener! I came back as agency for a few years and now have been back 4 years. Since I’ve been back I’ve moved from CNA to CMA (with tuition reimbursement) and now in to a support team role. Management is trying harder than most people realize to improve communication and appreciation. Staffing on the neighborhoods are better than anywhere else I’ve ever worked. Even when we’re short staffed here you usually have the amount of staff you’d have at any other nursing home. Also, the DOH, ADOH, and qualified management team help work on the neighborhoods to help. It’s not always perfect here but, it’s the best home I’ve ever worked at, I really appreciate the opportunities I’ve been given, and appreciate the effort that management is making to make things better for the staff.

I learned sooo much and I loved my position at Evergreen.  It was a learning experience and despite some egos in management needing to adapt to newer team members and embrace them, instead of my way or no way mentality then Evergreen wouldve retained a lot more great teammates.  Work life balance was not very respected. Regardless residents are treated the best at Evergreen in comparison to many other places I've seen.

Upper management doesn't listen to what you have to say and are quick to side with the nurses since they are harder to find. I loved the residents and the people I worked closely with. The stress level is crazy and I am still in shock how they handle things. I have never been treated like I was here. It's young people coming in trying to change things they know nothing about and try to tell you how to do your job which again they don't know since they have never worked as an aide. Your job is not secure you could be fired at the blink of an eye.

I only worked at this company for a few months bu those few months were horrible. From the moment I was in the floor I worked short, I had 28 people by myself , and since they were short in other areas the nurses had to go fill in. The day shift was down right rude, instead of helping you they would just talk about you to other and complain. The short period of time I was there, 5 other people quit before I did.  They pay so much much because they now how much he’ll you go through but it is not worth  it.

I have worked for this company for many years and have never been more fulfilled. Support always available from management. Able to communicate with my supervisors and recieved help with concerns. Can be stressful at times (as with all jobs in the nursing field), but good and realiable co-workers and managers help reduce any stress. Residents are amazing and it's great to be a part of getting them what they want, when they want it and being able to advocate for them. 

Evergreen does a great job providing quality care, which at the end of the day makes me feel like I've made an impact. Friendly staff. Management actually enteracts with floor staff, rather than staying in their office all the time. Clean and well supplied. Good pay and benefits. Lots of extra perks such as outings, activities, parties that you get to take part in. It's a nice environment to get to know the residents as people, not patients. Very supportive atmosphere.

I have worked at Evergreen for more than five years and I love it!  I believe in the organization so much that I moved my dad in, and he received amazing care.  I believe this a great place to work.  The team genuinely cares about each other.  Of course, there are tough days, but we get through them together.  The CEO is a nurse who cares about each and every resident and team member.  The leadership team is very knowledgeable and caring.  I highly recommend Evergreen!
