Let me be clear, I do not discourage anyone from following their dreams.  If you want a job at Exeter or Core, go for it, make the best out of it, learn what you can and leave if it’s not for you.  I NEVER wanted to quit my job with Core Physicians but I had no choice.  I loved my first year as an RN in Family Practice.  I loved my office, sup, coworkers, doc, and patients.  Then everything changed after my first year.  I have been a nurse for 12 years, 9 in the ER.  I am built to handle a lot.  I have traveled the country I have worked in hospitals, rehabs and assisted-living.  I got certified in everything I can get my hands on.  I worked overtime and then some.  I have missed most holidays, births weddings and funerals in my family all for the sake of nursing.  I have seen more death and tragedy than anyone should see in a lifetime. I know what is OK and what is not OK.  The reason I left was because of the poor treatment by management.  Our managers inferior experience showed in his/her passive aggressiveness towards us.  There was favoritism and nitpicking about little things that didn’t actually matter.  Our office began to be ran by email only.  Management presence started to dwindle from days to weeks at a time.  Which we were glad for because then we got to concentrate on our work.  We were never told we were doing a good job.  We had no leader to uplift us and encourage us.  When we complained about the overload of work the response was “well we give you a lot of work because we know you can handle it“  Or “don’t get overwhelmed think of it as an exciting challenge”.  Most lectures were about how we weren’t doing enough and that we could do better.  When a simple mistake happened, we were belittled and yelled at, then to further kick us when we were down, our manager would blame us for him/her yelling at us.  Yes, we were blamed for our managers reaction towards us.  As a nurse I will never ever ever work a job where my supervisor is not a nurse ever again.  We were the workers on the front line.  We know our jobs inside and out we know what works and what doesn’t.  When we tried to voice our opinions on what works and what doesn’t work we were shut down and brutally rebuffed(Clueless reference).  But seriously we were the ones doing the work and when we asked for certain things or gave our opinions we were easily shut down and often shamed for even voicing our opinions.  Honestly it’s sad but I did start to begin to feel like a piece of property and no longer a person.  I almost started to feel like I was just supposed to perform like a robot without thoughts or feelings.  The benevolence and compassion I treated my patients with was not being reciprocated to us by management.  I no longer felt like a nurse but just a number.  Schedules started to randomly change without notice and time off requests were being denied.  I tried going through the right channels to get things back on track and my complaints fell on deaf ears.  Eventually I felt my good enough was no longer good enough and I left work feeling depressed and deflated.  I never wanted to leave but I knew I had to.  Don’t ever let somebody who can’t do your job ever make you feel like you are not good enough!   Good luck on your medical journey much love and peace to you.

If you are attempting to break out from a retail or mail-order niche and into hospital pharmacy Exeter Hospital is the place to do that. You will learn so much about a variety of medications, automated dispensing cabinets, operations, and compounding. You will also discover a level of autonomy that you did not think existed in the field of pharmacy.  

A typical day of work can vary depending on what shift you are doing (which is awesome!)  You can spend the majority of the day:

-delivering to automated dispensing cabinets
-performing auxiliary functions in the main pharmacy and going on rounds
-compounding sterile IV preparations 

Management is a little tough; the department has gone through a lot of changes recently. At the end of the day everyone cares about the well-being of the patients and the hospital and is trying their hardest.

The workplace culture has made a significant shift towards "Psychological Safety." People are encouraged to be open and honest. Pharmacists are also taking more initiatives to assist the technicians in their auxiliary duties. All of the technicians are great, I have never worked with a better group in my ten years of pharmacy.   

The hardest part of the job is trying to multitask IV room compounding and rounds.  It reminds me a lot of working in retail (cash register); when you plan to go deliver an IV needs to be made urgently. You find a balance that works for patients and for you.

The most enjoyable part of the job... There are several. When you make / run medications to a code you are directly contributing to the saving of a life... That's pretty powerful. Interacting with the various employees in the hospital is enjoyable as well. Since you are a technician you have access / jobs to do everywhere so you really get to know everyone.  Exeter Hospital is a great community to work within. As a technician it is really nice to feel like you are contributing when you bring up new ideas at staff meetings or to the operations team.

Exeter Hospital was a very hostile and toxic environment to work for. HR and the manager were dishonest and misleading of the job role, promoting the role as a QC and data analysis based position with some occasional work with administration. This was not the case and the position was a backup secretary position, with 3 days designated as a secretary and 2 days of secretary work with the occasional opportunity for data reporting. The main role of this position requires you to answer the phone (which was NOT mentioned in the interview that the position is phone based) and answer the beckoning call of 20 different people within the hospital at once, all expecting you to make them a priority. Many of the nurses and physical therapists are extremely rude, unprofessional and talk down to you if you are a non-clinical staff or hang up on you if you cannot give them what they want. Management was not very proactive about my concerns until the situation was significantly escalated. Verbal harassment was also an issue in this role, not only from other internal staff, but from outside vendors as well. The only positive and enjoyable part of this job was the occasional free lunch. If you value workplace culture, work-life balance, and team collaboration, this is not the place to work.

A typical day at work is usually manageable. Staffing is good and management is usually responsible to clinical staff needs and requests to do their jobs like supplies and enough FTEs.  Management is very out of touch with reality.  They preach all the right things "Culture of Safety", "Just Culture", etc but in reality the culture is do not bring up any short comings or you will be considered a trouble maker.  Even when problems are addressed and fixed, they don't stay that way for long because there is no accountability to staff to perform.  The hardest part of the job is getting anything done outside of your area...everyone wants to stay in their silo and put their own needs first instead of working as a team across departments.  The most enjoyable part of the job are your direct team and the care you can provide knowing it is at its highest level.  

I feel a great sense of pride working for Exeter Hospital. We are not a large facility, yet we are very community centric. We reach out to make our community better by providing our patients a safe, clean comfortable environment in which to receive their care. I haven't met a larger group of co-workers who are all dedicated to the patients and making their care our the greatest priority. The company recognizes our contributions in many small ways even though times are tight such as personalized letters from our CEO during the holidays, department pizza or catered food parties from time to time just to say thanks for the hard work, and an environment where you feel comfortable thinking outside the box and offering alternative points of view.

Progressive hospital Pharmacy services,  Clinical ICU Pharmacist rounds daily with ICU intensivist. Oncology certified            pharmacist oversees outpatient clinic and inpatient oncology services as needed, Work load is variable and staff works together to get the work done in a timely manner, The hardest part of the job is balancing the work load and prioritizing what needs to be next, The Pharmacy department most enjoyable activities are making a difference in improving patient care and outcomes. Social events such as summer pool parties and holiday parties are optimal times to get to know the staff at build bonds with each other

Their is no support for nurses or any other employees in my 1 yr experience at Exeter Hospital.  Management sticks together along with the superficial ancillary or employee oriented HELP programs their, sch as EPA.  If you weren't the mold they wanted, you were never excepted and had to fly under the radar to survive.  If you  made it to retirement you were lucky.  Cut throat and backstabbing.  Nursing was always understaffed and preferential treatment was the norm.  People were targeted for differences or because they didn't mold to fashion and many unjustly treated and even lost their jobs.  You were either liked or not liked and it went from there.   I left many, many a day in tears.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The patients were lovely. There was on-sight parking , cafeteria was clean and food was great

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Understaffed, underpaid, undertrained, catty coworkers. Rules don’t apply to everyone. You will train your soon to be supervisor , no growth

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Hostile, bullying, rules apply to some and not others. Catty, gossipy  and insincere 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I don’t work there anymore but miserable. One half hour break only if you’re lucky. Understaffed so you have to do the work that usually 6 people do and aren’t thanked for your efforts

taking shoes ,socks off for the doctor.getting patient read for the nurse. this is in clinic setting.measure their legs for edema,checking wound making sure they do not have another one, checking skin integrity for warmth or cold,dry flaky,rashy or not and report to nurse.

help assist meals,going to bathroom and making sure they are dry and clean. check foley care if have one report new skin conditions to nurse and wounds. also chang in mood or confusion, signs of face expressions,like grimacing could mean pain or something not right.

I have since received by Bachelors degree with tuition reimbursement.  I have fine tuned my skills as an ER RN.  Struggles is not having the staff needed when influx of pts.  Very cliquey hospital.  They pride themselves on job security and advancement but the truth be told I am just a warm body filling a position.  The thing I will miss is some of the people I work with.  We are a real work family, we are very close.  I feel that the art of nursing is to get to know your patient and understand their condition / complaints and help them by implementing the appropriate medical interventions.  We do not have the time with patients like we should.  I enjoy being a nurse and helping them with my medical knowledge.
