- Checked email and responded as needed.  Sorted out top list to do and worked on the higher priority tasks. 

- Created software package image via DVD and USB, then installed in the related appliances. Created virtual machines for both linux and windows with software applications for testing usage. Utilized some tools in generating/monitoring/analyzing network events and flow data. Integrating testing the  with various products. Communicate remotely with development and customer support engineers. 

- Management had lots of meetings and looked busy with multiple projects in mind

- Lack hardware resources in building up my test bed as the budget is limited. Encountered disk space full and not enough memory in my testing systems. 

- Enjoy the announcement for the release of the software package or patch that I've tested/verified. Viewed the software got posted to the web side for customers to download.

Designed corporate voice, video and data networks partnering with a great Sales Rep. Promoted to Regional Sales Engineer Manager and hired six experienced Sales Engineers to partner with newly hired Sales Reps. Provided expert resources to my team by way of Product Marketing presentations at your regular meetings. Interface with Exec staff in Extreme as well as Exec management of customers in support of a sales win. I learned Management skills from an excellent Management team and received great training both in Sales and Technology. The workplace culture was work-hard, play-hard. The hardest part of my job was when their flagship product had engineering design flaws in the hardware. I had many meetings with Customer Execs to keep the temperature down while we worked out a fix. The most enjoyable part of my job was supporting my team with positive outcomes.

Love the folks I work with at Extreme. A great team and great management can make/break any organization, and mine have been really supportive. This year (2020), as customers change their buying habits, Extreme is having to double down on its investments (acquisitions), and that comes at the expense of what feels like continual re-branding, and having to differentiate in areas that perhaps not all incumbent customers can benefit from (i.e. longterm goals and product direction are hard to read). Product evolution and road maps are in perceived constant flux, with some products just getting back-burner-ed and/or dropped entirely, frustrating buyers who want to invest for 5+ years out. Internal reorgs make it hard to find SME's who are around for the long game. However, cloud offerings and VSP are the real deal!

Extreme is a sales culture that stresses the close.  That's fine and should be expected in a product sales company that has an average transaction size of less that $100,000.  If you're dealing with Fortune 500 companies in deals that in are in excess of a million dollars, things move a little differently. Customers are more apt to move the goal posts, ask more questions; want additional terms, etc.,.  All of these things can delay a close.  When management screams because you haven't closed, but are serving the customer in is completely demoralizing.  This was Extreme.

The people there are great.  The culture is open and transparent (as possible in a publicly held company).    An OK company to work for.  Just be prepared for a lot of pressure if you are working the larger accounts.

Trying to accomplish the tasks at hand with inadequate resources, guidance or deadlines. You are setup for failure.

I came to Extreme from a corporate acquisition with Brocade.  We were very excited to come on board and build a captive finance program but within a short period of time, we realized that the management had no clue what to do with us and put an even less engaged and interested manager in charge of the group.  It was basically death by a 1000 paper cuts as no investments, support, direction or management of the team was going to be offered.  We were eventually cut lose after hitting 113% of our annual goal in the latest round of layoffs.

This was one of the best internships I had in college, although sometimes I wasn't quite sure why I was brought on. My manager pretty rarely looped me in on anything, spent most of my time soliciting work from other people, and got the impression there was a bit of idleness on our team.

They paid me pretty well for an intern, everyone I spoke to was very kind, but the culture there was pretty non-existent beyond "sports." I'd put in my 5 hours and only hear coughs sometimes. This might not sound like a glowing review, but I still would have accepted a job offer.

Keep your skills up, be relevant, stay the course to be successful. The key to working at Extreme is to keep learning and continue developing new skills to survive.

Your attention to the selling motion, the sale engagement, and working with your key customers and partners will help you survive. Make sure that you are always learning new things. You will appreciate all your accomplishments even more.
