EyeHealth Northwest

EyeHealth Northwest was a great learning experience, but had unrealistic expectations for employment. They expected me (a part-time scribe) to be fully trained within the same amount of time as a full-time scribe would be, which I was not told would happen when being hired. Then, I was not provided with the necessary training to fulfill my role. 

I was supposed to be working for one provider only ( a glaucoma specialist), but I was "shadowing" other providers and their scribes more often than working for my own. This was a major issue because shadowing other providers also kept me from learning the style of how my provider specifically wanted their notes and exams recorded. This led to my provider and the other scribe I was working with to get really irritated with me. Also, training under other providers that weren't glaucoma specialists made learning the needed terminology extremely challenging and nearly impossible to remember.

I was hardly allowed to scribe at all while I was here, and coworkers couldn't properly teach how to use the EHR or do clerical work. This position was extremely frustrating because I essentially wasn't allowed to do the job I was hired for. I was expected to learn everything by watching someone else, rarely being allowed or given the chance to do it myself. 

Overall, my experience with the company was incredibly frustrating and difficult. I would not recommend anyone work here as a part-time scribe due to the extreme lack of proper training and little support offered. 

To be honest, I would not recommend this job to my worst enemy. Clocking in and out sucks the life right out of you. Management is actually pretty bad. There is little to no training or opportunities for continued manager training/education. Due to lack of manager training, there is a lot of micromanaging that happens. Therefore, you can feel like nothing you do is good enough because they are just going to nit pick everything you do. There is no set times for breaks. The company only cares about making money, so they don't care if a clinic is overbooked. As long as the doctors have at least a certain amount of patients, it's okay for patients to wait in the lobby for 1+ hours. That in turn makes the referral coordinators, surgical coordinators and patient care coordinators work twice as hard. There is little to no privacy when it comes to personnel information. The best part of the day is working with your coworkers (thats assuming you like them..) It's a very clique driven company, therefore culture is not great. Like I said, I wouldn't have my worst enemy work here. There are a few good managers, but those managers are stretched thin because they are good at what they do. There are a few paid holidays so that's nice. And you do get a discount on eyewear. HR is not great but not bad. Just so-so. I thought this would be a great place to get my foot in the door for a healthcare career, but all it taught me was how awful healthcare really is. 

Working at Eyehealth NW was not easy. This company overworks its people and does not offer reasonable compensation for the employees who work consistently. The work life balance barely existed. Poor management from direct supervisors was something that shows in every department and aspect of the company. 
Supervisors had favorites and gave those employees special privileges. I saw unfair treatment of so many employees. People blamed each department for their failures, especially placing blame on both our scheduling department and the reception staff. 
In all departments, they are constantly short staffed. Which takes its toll on everyone who has to overcompensate for these shortages. 
The treatment from supervisors and staff was unfortunate. People were treated rude, treated unfairly, disrespected by direct managers, and other employees.  Employees do not work together instead a common phrase used by way too many was that’s not my job.  In a workplace like this it was tough because the good employees there do more than their share, while the bad ones get better treatment. 

Lack of management experience and favoritism rampant. Just bc you started your career there doesn’t mean you make a good manager.  A good manager is out helping grow the business and support employees one on one not sitting behind your office door. If you were not part of the clique your workday was miserable. I am all for diversity and equality but when you favor certain types of people over others because they fit your social needs, and not treat others equally. if you won’t conform to the way they do things and act, it makes an unhealthy work environment. People need to accept others for who they are.  Some offices were fine but not all. They also would send people home or close the clinic w no notice and they didn’t pay you for it which goes against OR labor law due to the size of the company. Maybe that explains the high turnover?  If you have a serious issue and go to management or HR you are seen as a problem and they don’t want to deal with you, they just move you to another clinic. 

I worked at EyeHealth Northwest for a little over 8 years, there is a lot of room for growth and opportunity within this company as long as you show interest and potential. Tech management is great, they are very understanding of your situations if in any case you need to call off for a family emergency, and they are usually quick and efficient at finding coverage so nobody has to stress over being understaffed. Raises are adjusted every year, they offer paid holidays and PTO accrual. My only complaint would be the lack of training mostly on the front of office end, many of the schedulers have been with the company for years and still make so many mistakes when scheduling patients, it can throw a tech’s entire day off. The central scheduling team is a mess, whoever is in charge of training schedulers needs some training themselves, because not a single person in that department knows what they are doing. 

Though work was busy & the pace at times was fast with some struggles within, I took incredible pride in working at EHNW. I cared deeply for the doctors there and made it a mission to make them proud.  I learned that working hard was appreciated when you proved that.  Management does the best they can with what they are handed.  The culture is broken some, and it is tougher if you weren’t part of a certain group, that was able to get away with more than others.  The pay was good & the benefits were good, and though understaffing in many of the departments there, the company as a whole was a good company to work for.

Working for EyeHealth NorthWest was such a painful experience. You spend more time troubleshooting outdated systems that management couldn't be bothered to upgrade. Every day was a frustrating, uphill battle. My work would be a thousand times less stressful if management wasn't lazy, and actually did something about it.

 Speaking of management, they clearly show favorites. Even if you've perform excellently, they aren't going to reward you if they don't like you personally. Talent isn't rewarded, but boot licking is.

Unless you want to suffer, and be miserable working at such a terrible place, you should probably stay far away.
 

Working at EHNW is incredibly stressing.  Gut wrenching in fact.  You give so much and at the end of most days you are beaten down emotionally & mentally.  Management has favorites & those are the ones that get away with so much more than others.  There is so much disrespect & contradiction to fellow employees.  HR is not helpful as they don’t investigate nearly enough, making it feel like they would rather just do away with the person having issues.  There is an illusion there is a good culture there, but it doesn’t truly exist to the core.  Pay is decent… but happiness is not.

I enjoyed working at Eyehealth Northwest. It is a nice place and good people to work with. A typical day at work was to work up the patients, check schedule and make sure that everyone is on schedule and on time. I learned a lot of great skills such as communication with other techs, how to manage time wisely and multitasking. Management of the company ensure quality and efficient job of employees. The hardest part of the job is to get to use with different specialists in the clinic and their favors! But most enjoyable part of the job when you can please them!

( EAST PORTLAND CLINIC) within the 8 months of working there, about 6 people either quit or got fired, the management is horrible and oblivious to anything going on in the clinic, the don't help even after asking for help they don't train you properly but then expect to know and do everything, they don't care about your personal health or well being. they have favorites and discriminate against appearance. i was so excited to work here and this place drove me into the ground mentally . i would not recommend anyone to work here and i really hope the higher ups start realizing something is wrong with there east Portland clinic
