A typical day is busy and goes by fast because I am working on many benefits details and assisting lots of staff with various issues.

I learned to use a new HR Software called Work Day.  Prior to this company, used Ceridian so this was very exciting to me because I love learning new skills related to my career field.

My supervisor is nice, relaxed, funny, smart, kind, and understanding.  My co-workers are cordial, proactive, problem solvers and culturally diverse.  I enjoy sharing and learning with and from them.

The hardest part of the job is that I am the only one at my work location that handles benefits.  There are time when I have many cases at one time each requiring research of minute details 

The most enjoyable part of the day is assisting employees to make better decisions which can help them save money and to proactively use their benefits to their advantage--why pay for benefits and do n't use them?  I enjoy employees communicating their appreciation when they have been helped, which also helps their families. I enjoy meeting the new hires and conducting the Benefits Presentations.
When I am able to learn something new each day, no matter how small, I am happy and want to share it with others.

Overall I truly enjoyed my tenure with FHI 360.  The energy of the staff and environment made the days move quickly.  My roll provided me with a lot of movement and brought something new to me each day.  This role taught me how to be creative, dynamic and thoughtful with my exchanges with the staff.  Co-workers developed a tight bond and worked closely together to ensure projects were completed and learned to anticipate needs.

Challenges in this role included, making sure that requests and needs to given the time and attention warranted.  In an office setting of more than 650 ees, all requests were urgent and required timely response.

In many ways, those challenges were also what made this position enjoyable.  As mentioned earlier, each day brought something new and interesting.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Super Nice folks, but their hiring process is largely based on who you know, and personality,  so some of their staff is excellent but others are cripplingly bad, and the rest gets to cover the slack (way more than usual.)

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Job Insecurity. They funding in dependent on Government Grants that are not as stable as they once were. So one moment they are talking about hiring you permanently for this great position, the next they tell you they can’t even keep you as a consultant. And everyone acts lost and clueless when that starts to happen.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Very nice folks, all around. Very emotionally and structurally supportive. But sometimes too nice to get some things done.
Perhaps the side of the physicians/scientists may be very different.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
My position was as a long term consultant for a few standing projects, so I am not sure that my day to day was representative.

•	Provided the day-to-day administrative support to the Director of the Strategic Planning and Analysis (SPA)
•	Responsible for working with FHI 360 Purchasing department of supplies and goods for departments
•	Handled the booking of travel arrangements working with the travel department providing support for the SPA staffs travels, and prepared travel requests, travel reports, expense reports, reimbursements, and vouchers
•	Set up and maintain organizational systems for administrative efficiency, including but not limited to organizing a filing systems for team calendars, important documents, and materials using the SPA wiki pages 
•	Ensured that information housed on the SPA Intranet page is current in addition to providing general administrative tasks: copying, filing, formatting, collecting signatures, and performed other duties as assigned
•	Facilitating the arrangements and assisting the with logistical support of meetings and the set up of conferences

A great place to work, have fun and make a difference in the world. Most managers are very supportive and encourage you to take on new challenges and opportunities within the company. We have a variety of free online training courses available, from cost principles to Project Management for Development (PMD). Opportunity to interact with field-based staff on a daily basis makes you feel closer to the action, where projects are implemented, which is rewarding as well. Best part of the job is the great cultural diversity that our HQ office is made of. We have staff from all over the wold working here.

Working at FHI360 was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. Although I ended up leaving because I did not want to pursue a career in finance and found my day-to-day work somewhat tedious, I loved everything else about working there. It is certainly not perfect, but they do exceptional work on a diverse portfolio fascinating public health issues, they have a generous compensation package, and they do a good job of promoting internally and providing plenty of opportunities for growth and collaboration. 

A typical day at FHI360, was to prepared consultant agreement and work orders.  Once The agreement was in place we I would prepared Travel and Fee payment forms for Payment.  Since I had been at FHI360/AED I have learned so much and I attained a lot under by belt such as Data entry, Compass, Procureit and now Costpost, which are all financial systems of inputting data.  I work with a great management time who also help push me forward in my Job and my growth at the company.  I had some awesome co-workers that I worked with, we always had each others back.  The hardest part of my job was to get co-workers to follow direction.  The most enjoy part of my was I loved doing what I do, which is working to make sure my consultants and staff was pay on time.

This was actually a great role to work in. Under the RIGHT supervision you have autonomy that allows you to grow as a professional. However, under the wrong supervisor in a "remote" world...you turn into a seeing eye dog without all the hand treats and positive reinforcement. Instead...you'll be faced with individuals who over indulge in misuse of your role and finding your day never really ending. Then, being the scapegoat when theres a break in the chain. Yet, knowing all of this, I would still recommend it. Tough skin and a supportive supervisor will help you navigate and ground yourself.

Great NGO doing very interesting work however, the  programs within this organization are siloed. Smaller programs can have very unhealthy dynamics. 

Management for these teams have little oversight and training for their leadership roles.  Poor leaders are able to continue bad practices without consequences and can make for an unpleasant work life. In addition, there’s no pathway forward for junior staff to move to the next level. This leads to stretch roles without compensation or title. It is not uncommon to see an acting junior staffed manager of a program lead a team where a titled senior leader signs off on documents and collects a check and creates office turmoil. 

A typical day at work for me was assisting clinical research teams with the electronic Trial Master File (eTMF), managing the Research Document Control Room, and assisting my Clinical Regulatory and Compliance (CRC) team with whatever was needed. Management of CRC was very good and supportive of each team member. The most enjoyable part of the job was assisting clinical research teams with the eTMF. FHI 360 did not have an eTMF when I joined the company in 2015. I was on the team that selected the eTMF.
