Fair Acres Geriatric Center

I worked at fair acres for 23 years and I slowly watched the place go down year after year. The best departments are the ones that have directors and management who are county employees. Food service is managed by an outside company and they only seem to be interested  in getting through the day. They do not care for the residents and has gotten worse in the past 10 years. Management should not be afraid of constructive criticism and new ideas. They staff used to be a family atmosphere and now it is a tense and uneasy environment As evidences by the show "undercover boss" no one should.be in charge if they are not able to do the job of the employees. Managers are unprofessional and the rules change depending who your are. The most enjoyable part of fair acres is the people. We always say, everyone likes working here except in your own department When you work here as long as I have you watch your co-workers grow old with you. We all watched our kids be born and grow up and get married. The new management in our department is afraid of anyone who knows a little more than they do. Instead of coming in and shadowing your employees to see how things are done here, they assume they know what to do. Clueless management that never  comes out of their offices can not possibly be a good mix. Treating all employees with respect is the best way .to get the best out of them. The  job could be great again if they had management that worked with you and not against you. Benefits are great (health insurance and 16 paid holiday) but the department tends to make up their own rules, never recognize good employees. management changes recently have led to the implosion of one of the best facets of the food service department. 3 of 5 employees leaving with 6 months of this change. No one wants to stick around for a stressful work environment.

Fair Acres offers great benefit compensation in exchange for a fair salary. Some departments are managed by outside companies and not county employees. This makes it a difficult balance at times. The overall work environment is positive although we deal with a vast array of sad situations. it is a huge place that has a great deal of amazing personalities. the hardest part is dealing with outside companies who do not have vested interest in fair acres As a whole. the best department heads are the ones that  actually are employed by the county and are an integral part of the team.  
Everyone here is just trying to do there best for the residents and feed their own families. Some of the management rules and regulations are a little antiquated and not cooperative with the balance of primarily working moms and the needs of the long term care residents, Many of the personal rules are not necessarily written down and can change depending on who you ae and who you know,

Versus virtually any other job Fair Acres is a very unprofessional working establishment.  Its more so the people there that drastically degrade the quality of the establishment.  A typical work will most likely be difficult because of the extra curricular non work related behaviors you find there.  I learned that immaturity has no age limit.  My management were full of people who had not really accomplished much in their own lives thus making them have superiority complexes in their position.  My co-workers were mostly undisciplined and un-educated.  The hardest part of my job was dealing with the constant uncertainty of what the next day would bring because of all the negative personalities there were. The most enjoyable part of the job was when it was over.

This place is horrible to work at!!! The nurses and cna's all complain about how much they hate it here. Nurses and assistants are always calling out, leaving the floors short staffed and everyone overworked!! Most of the nurses are burned out and complain all day everyday about everything and it's a horrible environment if you're new here. It's a good place to get experience if you're having trouble getting a job in a decent nursing home. Get your experience and move on. The pay is a joke it's the lowest pay for nurses I've ever heard of. Staff morale is -100 really pathetic! No one takes pride in their job. The residents are not treated with respect. The nurses just want to pass their meds and do their tx without even attempting to be pleasant. The assistants make residents wait forever when they ask for help. What a sorry, sorry, place.

Fair Acres is Delaware County's Geriatric Center. They offer training programs for anyone looking to become a CNA. It is a great place to learn and gain experience as a new CNA or LPN. The work environment can be difficult at times, but if a person has the right outlook, it can be seen as a learning opportunity. Working in a long term care facility has taught me many things about caregiving, patience, and compassion. I truly enjoy the people and residents that I work with. My favorite part of my job is helping to orientate new employees to his or her respective units.

A typical day at work was always busy we have many sick residents alzhemeirs resident that had many things on there minds, constantly needing redirection, I learned how to be patient steadfast. Management was always supportive and helpful, co-workers was always willing to lend a hand, the hardet part of the job is when I left my unit to go to another, (my some of my residents came to visit me and didn't want to leave) the most enjoyable part of the job was me singing and humming as I was walking down the hallway with my medication cart.

It is a fun place to work at ,where everybody gets along. Good benefits, safe,  environment and residents are well taken care of.  I learned a lot about  both co-workers and residents as well. I also learned about different kinds of diseases  and how to prevent them.  Management was  ok, they have time for complains and they do their best  to come out with solutions.  The hardest part of the job was when we work short  The most enjoyable  part of the job  was when we celebrate their birthdays with their families present.

A fearful environment, employees are not treated equally, they try to entrap people in order to discipline them.  Residents are generally pleasant and appreciative of assistance.  Management is usually in a state of panic and that anxiety spreads throughout all levels.  It's difficult to stay out of trouble because they create such a fine line to walk.  Employees are oppressed and often humiliated by management.  Lost a lot of really good people due to their pettiness. 

They are very unprofessional and you will feel very overwhelmed and they have people that been there before you try to get you fired if you go to building 8 and they dont take care of the residents like they are suppose to they places should have been closed down and then its ran by the court house and the county they will suspend you and fire you over lies and they just want you to turn a blind eye to the stuff that really be going on in this places you have to keep your mouth closed when the state comes!!!!! Or they will give u days off if they think your a problem just to keep this places open smh!!!!

The location is great and accessible by public transportation.

Constantly understaffed and poor working conditions.

It's a hostile working environment. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
When you get there almost all of your residents will need to be changed out of soiled depends. You will have to  check for signs of abuse before you give care to prevent getting blamed for abuse and/or injury.
