Fairmount Behavioral Health System

I had an extremely negative experience at Fairmount Behavioral Health System. The hospital is extremely unsafe, with numerous hazardous conditions that endanger both patients and staff.

Firstly, there are mice on the premises, and the facility does not give patients enough food. There are no guards employed, creating a significant security risk. The hospital fails to triage patients appropriately upon admission and often accepts patients they are not equipped to handle. Additionally, there are no translators available, making it difficult for non-English speaking patients to receive proper care.

The lack of ancillary or support staff further exacerbates the dangerous environment. There is mold on the premises and numerous other hazards, making it an unsafe place for both nurses and patients. The hospital is consistently short-staffed, which leads to poor working conditions and compromised patient care.

Management at Fairmount Behavioral Health System is unprofessional and inconsistent. Despite having an overstaffed management team, the hospital is under-equipped with essential resources and order, leading to wasted resources and limited support for staff. They let go of techs and nurses so easily, as if they have the resources to afford such turnover, which they clearly do not.

Overall, Fairmount Behavioral Health System is a horrible place to work, particularly with the issues of rodents, inadequate patient care, and poor management. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone, whether as a place of employment or as a healthcare provider.

This is the most toxic environment that I have ever worked in my life! Employee turnaround is through the roof which leads to always be understaffed. Employee morale is low at best. 90% of the staff here, all have one thing in common..they hate their jobs. You'll find people quietly chatting to one another in the halls or outside while smoking with these intense looks on their faces..no doubt their more than likely discussing whatever fu€ker¥ they've encountered that day, or you can hear every one from the techs, nurses, social workers etc, moaning and groaning on a daily basis. The place is completely unorganized and always understaffed, yet management expects perfection. The paperwork is redundant and time consuming. God forbid you forget to check a box on one of the 100 forms you have to complete and you will hear about it. Staff, mainly the females, have some of the worst attitudes and interpersonal skills I have ever seen. It is very clicky and you will learn really fast if you're one of the desirables or not. No consistency amongst the units. People in management positions with the social skills/dispositions of a serial killer. Gossip spreads through the place like wildfire. Pay is mediocre but there is a great deal of room for advancement if you can tolerate being on the verge of depression everyday.

I only worked there for about 3 months but what I found to be excellent were the employees and supervisors. Everyday I walked into the building I was excited and ready to go to work. Not only were the employees great to work with but I really did like working with the residents in several of the pods. The only, and I say only issue I had there and the reason I left, was I took the job and salary based on the position I applied for,  a Drug and Alcohol therapist. Unfortunately I was placed in a position where I felt I could not make any difference or grow professionally.  With that being said, I could have seen myself working there for many years. Let me say this too, If I had started in the position I applied for and worked in that pod for several months I then would have had no problem working in any of the other pods. Unfortunately, it did not play out that way    

I work overnight which is not really a lot of work. But the mess the other shifts leave behind is annoying as soon as u walk through the door. They're constantly understaffed which is hard on the people who actually work overnight. The job itself if not tasking but to have to constantly do everything, by yourself without any consideration from "Management" that you are the now doing everything by yourself...night after night. Not to mention, thats just the paperwork!! Once patients are awake and up constantly asking you to do things and asking for meds or won't go to sleep..that's when it becomes a headache because there is no other tech for you to lean on. Now granted, sometimes you get a decent nurse that'll help you but if not..you're left for dead on a unit (understaffed) with Patients who sometimes can't control their urges..or those who want to annoy you purposely. Not gone lie..some nights are a piece of cake of nights...you'll get to know if you apply.

Busy work place with involving implementing  safe care of patients psychiatric and medical needs. I have learned a great deal of skills associated with assessing patients, identifying their problems and needs associated with psychiatric and medical needs, and appropriate medication administration. The job involves working as a nurse leader- charge nurse that collaborates with a interdisciplinary team in developing patient specific treatment plans.The hardest part of the job involves time to time staffing needs. The most enjoyable part of the job is achieving positive treatment outcomes that meets the needs of our patients

A typical day does not exist at Fairmount Behavioral this is a behav ioral health facility, Which is part of the reason I do enjoy working here. I usually start the shift organizing the unit, writing an assignment, taking off orders, assessing patients, interacting with doctors, mental health techs and managers. I thoroughly enjoy my co-workers and working with 20-24 very different patients. It can be very challenging at times but most of the time working as a team makes everything easier.

I've been here for a little over a year and this place needs a lot of improvement. if you like helping others, can tolerate being cursed out by patients, and have a "thick skin" as in not taking anything personal then you'll make it here. the co-workers are awesome and generally make working here easier but management needs work. there's a lot of uppity attitudes, no room for growth, and many days it gets stressful working with mentally unstable patients and being unappreciated and underpaid for the work we do. 

This was my practicum location site for my MS in mental health counseling degree. The compensation and job security sections are in the middle because I did not experience them, not because of a deficit in that area. A typical day involved conversing with a treatment team for the facility's patients. I felt that the individuals I worked with were highly competent and helpful when needed. Staff was very exhausted though due to there not being enough staff, and thus they had to be in multiple places at once.

My direct team(nurse on my unit and two other techs) are awesome.  We work well together and build off one another strength.  I've learned how to run groups.  It can be stessfull when we are understaffed often and are staffed by patients not acuity.    Nurses have a lot of room for promotions but techs don't unless they change displines.

My day is spent making sure patients don't harm themselves or others and to intervene when they do, hepling patients to meet their treatment plan goals and running therapeutic discussion grooups(at least 2 per shift), and assisting with ADL's.

Worked in drug and rehab, patients were ok and was the most entertaining part about being at the job, somehow that was not always a good thing. The patients get away with a lot of things that put staff in harms way and nothing is done about it. One time the front door to the building was broke for days where’s is tho anyone can get in, took weeks for someone to actually fix. Very unsafe environment. Patients also were using inside the property due to staff members not doing their job correctly. Overall experience was horrible, no support and pretty much every man for themselves!
