No joy in my job since Healtheast merged with Fairview. No time off, managers lack experience and education to lead, it is all about money.
Lack of leadership, clarity and compassion , combined with no time off approved makes for a miserable place to be.Every day feels like you are in Kindergarten the way they do not assume established nurses are professionals and act with the patients best intentions and they feel the need to watch our every move, tell you to hurry and nit pick. Very high turnover so always short staffed. The job is stressful and nobody can master all the areas needed in such a large care system. Short staffed yet no hiring of casual RN’s to help. Cannot request holidays off. PTO accrues and you cannot use it. Lack of proper IT support. When my computer would have issues and knock me offline I was asked to punch out and work it out on my own time. New employees get 6 weeks to learn the job, when established employees are expected to learn changes through an email that we are to read on our own time ( not paid). Favoritism has been an issue for years with time off, others caring for infants while working ( no daycare required I guess) and other special non triage projects. Call volumes have tripled since covid but we have added no FTE to take calls and can’t keep new hires more than a few months. Multiple positions open and it’s a revolving door of people tired of no time off and lack of management support. Performance audits are not truthful, you don’t get a copy or chance to respond. If you make a goal they just change it to make it harder and use these false reviews and goals to give little to no raises. No clarity on policies and procedures. Patient care is not managements focus but number of calls per hour answered is. Nothing is done when patients or nurses give feedback on a process that is broken. 

Don't waste your time here. I was a former employee.. Always thought I wanted to and would love working at fairview but I was wrong!  Pay is good, insurance is good just expensive, some staff was good. 

Parking costs a ton in the ramp. And you're not even guaranteed a spot.. I used to drive around constantly trying and fighting for a spot. 

Insurance costs a ton. 

Most of the RNs ignore CNAS and look down on them,  they think they are better than them. 
A lot of the RNs and charge nurses are rude. On all the floors,  10a, 8a, transitional care, acute rehab, emergency.

They room medical patients with the psych patients.

Patient transportation leaves early and then it's up to CNAs to transport everyone to X-ray's,  ultrasounds,  CTs, etc.  And while you do that the RNs you're working with get mad and complain that you're not available. 

They run staff at bare minimum... I used to work at another local hospital and the staffing there was so much better.. Instead of being up an aide and making everyone's evening a breeze for one shift...  they either mandate people to stay home or put them on call.. Leaving the people that do work bust their butts. 

They don't distribute surgical patients evenly.. I would get 5 in a row.. Along with my other 7 patients. And surgicals take a long time to settle in. 

Generally when I worked I would have a minimum of 12 acute patients to myself. I at one point at 24 to myself of very demanding patients,  and RNs are lazy and never helped out with me even though they knew I needed help. 

It was always my dream to work at fairview but I was so wrong..  It's worse than a long term care facility.

It's not  worth it..  I would rather make a dollar or two less to work at a long term care facility instead. I hated it,  it was awful.

Credentialing is by far the worst place I have ever worked. Everything is a numbers game. The director only cares about what makes them look good and they do not try to fix problems in the department. Instead of encouragement, my manager would threaten me and my colleagues' jobs. Many have left the department or transferred to other teams to get away from this manager. Multiple employees filed complaints with Fairview HR that were swept under the rug. The culture favors anyone who sucks up to management. Coworkers will throw anyone under the bus to save themselves from management threatening them.

Fairview doesn't want to know about crooked politics and shady management and it really shows. The workloads are so high due to people leaving that the remaining employees are overworked and held to unrealistically high expectations for work completion. One year ago my team had 20 employees and now there are 10. This means all 10 of these people are taking on double-sized workloads with NO help from management. Fairview was also supposed to give employees their yearly raise and cost of living raise, but because Fairview needed to spend 30 MILLION on rebranding to "M Health Fairview", we lost those raises we needed because of lost revenue from COVID.

Now we work from home full time with ne reimbursement for internet or our cell phones, which we must utilize because Fairview will not set us up with work computers or phones. All of this use and wear is now put on our personal equipment. 

DO BETTER FAIRVIEW.

The team I worked with was wonderful and very supportive of each other.  I found the majority of the doctors and nurses I worked with to be great as well.  Working with the patients and building relationships with other community agencies and programs was also really nice.  
It was extremely fast paced, very learn as you go.  Communication was poor, however, when multiple people are involved it is difficult for everyone to be on the same page. 
Administration does not understand the actual job duties and seem to prioritize profits over actual patient care.  
The majority of those I worked with felt unsupported by management when concerns were brought to their attention.  
There is very little flexibility regarding time off.
Vacations requests are required 6 months in advance and not guaranteed as time off is based on seniority.
PTO requests are required at least 6 weeks in advance, and again- not guaranteed.

If one is working full time- the issues are much more present and difficult to navigate.  Those working part time or casual did not face the majority of the issues with leadership, PTO requests, etc.  It was not a horrible place to work.  I did enjoy my time there; there just needs to be more involvement from leadership to truly understand the job care management actually does. 

- Employees have to hear about the financial woes of the organization at EVERY meeting of the larger department, and most of the smaller meetings. 
- Opportunity for advancement is limited. 
 Although somewhat limited by my position, multiple times for years,  I have expressed my desires to be more involved, expand my knowledge, assist in additional projects, but my requests have fallen on deaf ears.  I believe I am being limited to just a few duties, because I excel at them and am needed for those duties.  
- Management, in this healthcare organization, does not care about your health.  After many very successful and productive years in my role, mgmt changed a policy that jeopardized my health. When I presented MD documentation in support of an accommodation, mgmt fought against, rather than worked with my MD recommendations.  No accommodation was provided and as a result, now my personal health and work productivity are suffering.  
- Not unusual to see favoritism and experience back-stabbing within a team.
- Not transparent with pay scales and merit increases; recently learned merit increases are not based on an individuals performance, but rather how that persons current pay compares to the current market pay for your role; have asked many, many times what the pay scale is for my position, has never been provided. 
- If I weren't so close to retirement, I would be looking elsewhere.

This is a huge company, so I'm sure it depends on where you work... but I held a few different positions at corporate (Stinson) and it is a joke. People tend to be in management positions here because they've been with the company a long time, not because they are good at it. Even some system level directors and VPs. The most important thing to them is whether you are in your seat, not the quality of work you do. They are obsessed with controlling their employees, not developing their talents or recognizing valuable contributions. I have seen MANY intelligent, competent, valuable employees leave because they are treated so poorly. I think the incompetent management is threatened by such people and are happy to have only "yes men" working for them. Fairview corporate has so much potential but it is ruined by insecure leadership.

Departments here are constantly being restructured and moved around to different management, whether that person is qualified to run the team or not. Seems like this happens at least once a year. It becomes comical after a while.

If you bring any concerns to HR about the management, they are no help at all and completely inconsistent. They could care less if employees are unhappy or want to leave or are being treated unfairly.

Unfortunately, this was the worst experience in my health care career. Long on-boarding training process, by which your preceptor doesn't get compensated for. Your required to cross train, so you can float when your provider is off. Your PTO time is also used as your sick time and for your holiday time (if you want it paid). Your provider makes the schedule even if it varies day to day. Schedule prep daily requires you to arrive 30-40min ahead of clinic opening time. Preferred One benefits offers many options however, when claims get processed there is a delay and you may be billed for several months at once (chiropractic visits). No clear work guidelines, adding tasks often, and may have to stay late to wrap up any phone calls. Provider was not pleased with progress over time, micromanaged daily, intimidated during appointments, aggressive annoyed communication, unapproachable, continually criticized during patient visits and while performing biopsies/procedures. No consistency with the work flow and rushes through appointments leaving the patient with more questions. Pay is fair and competitive. Management also micromanages, no room to strive independently, lack of trust and respect.

I worked in this lab for about a year. The culture in the lab is terrible. The work ethic is extremely low. Calling in sick is a regular thing with little to no oversite. It is common to work by yourself and have an unrealistic workload dumped on you as a phlebotomist. Being late is not only common but accepted. One employee is habitually late, clocks in late and then proceeds to get dressed in her work scrubs in the locker room, leisurely taking her time getting to help the fellow phlebotomists who are collecting morning blood work. The lab manager is well aware but she refuses to address the situation, or any situation because she would rather spend her days talking or reading emails than managing the lab. My time in this lab was dysfunctional and frustrating. If you are a good worker, this lab will take advantage of that while others skate by. The standards are extremely low. Phlebotomists can refuse to do tasks like draw from babies. There is no accountability. I left feeling defeated. The lab manager needs to go and a standard of care and work needs to be reestablished. There is a reason this lab is chronically low on phlebotomists. The same phlebotomists stay because they have set the standard (VERY LOW), and all new phlebotomists learn that and leave for better places.

Fairview has continued to lower performance increases each year while contuining to put nurses licenses on the line and Continue to cut staff. They cannot keep nurses and recently did a full mail out to all RN’s in Minnesota. No one does this if they can keep, retain RN’s with respect and dignity. Fairview burnout of RN’s is insane and most departments can’t stay fully staffed ever. I have seen so many wrong things happen and LPN’s charting for RN’s without RN’s ever approving. If you want to risk your license work here , they don’t treAt nurses with respect and all the doctors get the attention, they will burn you out and watch out for the department of health. Many people have lost licenses over not being full staffed and poor training measures and have not been able to find work. I have over 20 years of experience and the first mistake you make, be careful they will fire you and put a mark on your record. Even if it was a machine and will it is the most clique environment . If employees don’t like you , they will call into the main line and leave “tips and leads that are completely untrue and HR will investigate. Please save yourself from this misery.

Overall the job experience was wonderful, however (and maybe it was my cubicle mates) there is SO much drama, and gossip. I can understand office work can sometimes be boring but my goodness!!! The amount of complaining about being behind and being stressed when half of the 8 hour work day is spent gossiping either face to face or via email. 
I did go through a job agency and my position was only temporary and even though I was very happy with role I was relieved for my assignment to end. I did not feel very welcome, which is understandable having a new person whom you do not know (nor try to get to know) in your work space can be bothersome but the feeling of annoyance, and attitude, and rude behavior almost middle school level was a down side. 
The managers of the work place were defiantly wonderful and there to hear your opinions and complaints but it is difficult to know who you can trust in that work place. 
I do give this location a good rating because it is defiantly not fair to judge mainly on negative parts of a job when it is not necessarily the higher ups problem, it is the employees that make it an unpleasant workplace.  
I would go back, but in another department as the one I was assigned to made me feel absolutely unwanted, and awful.
