Falcon Critical Care Transport

Upper management puts a lot of pressure on their Dispatchers to reach impossible goals set by Kaiser, resulting in Dispatch stacking crews and running us into the ground. They were “okay” about giving uninterrupted 30 minute meal periods (1 for a 10hr shift, 2 for a 12hr, and 3 for a 24hr). They also give the 24s downtime (2 hrs minimum), but rarely were we given more than 2 hours. Woken up to Dispatch pages telling us we have immediates and we run out the stations half asleep, which is dangerous to us and the patients. I can’t speak from personal experience, but one coworker did have to call fatigue one night because they were just so burnt out, and they were lectured by management for it. The pay is not competitive with other companies in the areas, anywhere from $5-$10 less, so some days it just was not worth it. If they were more competitive with wages, I believe they could get more staffing, and lighten the load for some shifts.  Supervisors think they are holier than thou and walk on water, and very obviously play favorites, and are not always there when you need them. One situation in particular, I called my supervisor for advice on a call and they never even called me back. Never responded to my voicemail or texts. Luckily I came with experience, but not so good for any EMTs straight from academy who need insight sometimes. 

Onboarding was a fast and easy process. My recruiter was absolutely amazing! She answered all my questions and was completely transparent, which made choosing Falcon an easy decision. Management is all very welcoming. I was with Falcon for about 3 months, but put in approx. 549 hours. With that being said, there’s no shortage of hours, or overtime… if you are willing to put in the work!

Training for me was short and sweet (I came on with previous experience), and my trainer was great. Although I did have experience, this Dispatch Center did things a little different, so if I ever did have any questions, it was great to know there was support there with her. However, if working an overnight shift, just know there’s no management support when it comes to having issues with crews, whether it’s refusing calls or being unprofessional. I did encounter regularly, almost every shift, and it did lead to my departure.

To the person a review or two before mine: Dispatch has a job to do, take calls! Crews have a job to do, run calls! If you are given all your breaks, then why are you complaining? Know what you are signing up for when you are CHOOSING to work 24’s.

I have enjoyed working with most of the partners I have had so far and the experience I've obtained working as an EMT, but the thing that makes this job frustrating is dispatch and the management. Falcon looks bad as a company to many of our patients because dispatch often gives us, the EMTs, the page for the call late, making us late to pick up a patient, and making us have to apologize for something that is out of our control. I don't know if this has to do with dispatch getting a pay bonus for giving us EMTs 5 calls for the duration of our shift or what, but even that itself gives dispatch the incentive to run us like dogs for the whole day without breaks, but doesn't give us the incentive to work harder since we're not getting any bonus. I understand the negatives that come with being an EMT in general, but Falcon takes some of those negatives to a new level. If Falcon wasn't so frugal and genuinely cared about their employees, maybe there wouldn't be a higher job turnover rate compared to other ambulance companies.

I loved working for Falcon for many reasons. It’s a great job to start out with as a new EMT. The supervisors are very flexible with your schedule and very generous. As with any ambulance company, some days were slower than others and it was mostly random but everyone is very nice and the FTOs do their best to help you succeed and are very good with training. Since it is a transport company, you are only doing ift’s but I would definitely recommend this company to anyone who is looking for a starting job. The only downside is that you get hired at $15 and you never go up from there. However, like I said, they are very flexible and they work with you based on your schedule. It is almost never a problem if you need a day off. And they provide lots of benefits so all in all, I would recommend this company to those who are looking for a starting EMT job. Even thought the pay is only $15, they do provide lots of benefits and like I said, they are flexible. So it is a better alternative to the other ambulance companies out there that take advantage of their employees and don’t take care of their crews.

Working for Falcon Critical Care Transport turned out to be deeply disappointing. What looked like a promising step forward quickly became a source of constant regret. From the moment I started, exhaustion set in and never eased. Burnout became routine, not the exception. Any sense of balance between work and personal life vanished fast, replaced by relentless demands and unforgiving deadlines. Long hours became unavoidable just to keep pace. Support is nearly nonexistent. When issues arise, employees are left to struggle through them alone. Effort and dedication mean little here, largely because favoritism controls who gets noticed and who gets ignored. Unless someone belongs to a favored inner circle or has the right personal connections, advancement simply does not happen. Skill, loyalty, and hard work are overshadowed by bias, making the experience feel pointless and demoralizing. What could have been a meaningful opportunity instead became a draining and discouraging ordeal.

A typical day consists of coming into work, saying hello to everyone there, then going along and checking out all of the equipment. Then you go off and enjoy the rest of the day with your coworker. 
I have learned a lot that you can't learn in an E.M.T class setting, how to talk with a real patient, how to treat them kindly when they don't treat you kindly, how to work with any coworker and quickly adapt to their personality.
Management has been great since I started, they have allowed me to have a flexible schedule while going to school. 
Hardest part of the job is felling like you should've done more on a call, or questioning what you did on a given call. Even if you actually did everything correct.
Best part is meeting new people, learning life experience from some patients who are regular transports who you get to see every week.

My time at Falcon CCT was anything but enjoyable. During the interview I was promised a spot at a station very near my home so that I wouldn't have to commute 45 miles. The reason I accepted the full-time position was because I was able to work close to home. Once I did all of my paperwork and signed a ton of contracts that legally bound me into working with them, I found out that I was not ever scheduled at the closer station and was expected to make the hour and a half commute @ $10.05/hr, daily. They've since raised their compensation and added a few more deployment stations, but I am sure there is not much changed as far as management goes.
