Family First Homecare

Having come from a competitor, I had mixed feelings about continuing my operations and recruitment career in the home health space because of the lack of autonomy and alignment I felt in my former job. That initial skepticism was replaced with cautious optimism after my first conversation with the VP of Operations and CEO during my interview phase and after my first few days with the company I felt energized by all the possibility. In a few weeks, that cautious optimism was replaced by excitement when I realized that, simply put- FFHC delivers. 

Family First not only markets and attracts caregivers and employees by emphasizing the focus on the patient and investment in skills development- the actually follow through on it. While business acumen and operations/financial knowledge is fundamental to ops/sales roles- all discussions regarding growth start with the needs of the patient, the needs of the nurses, and what operations and clinical can do cohesively to deliver safe and compliant care. The financial benefit and growth always come as a consequence of this approach. 

The internal growth is happening at a break neck pace, creating a ridiculous amount of opportunity for existing employees considering FFHC truly focuses on a "promote from within" model. Even as the company grows, the culture just continues to improve. If you are aligned with the company focus, and ready to invest your time and energy (and feedback) to the process- you will get enormous benefit. 

With the growth, the company has responded by investing in systems and products to set everyone up for success. With that, can come periods of transition and implementation that can naturally lead to some frustration with the learning curve- but for me, it is always about intent- and I know that the feedback of the field is taken seriously.  If there is any challenge- its simply that we can't hire caregivers as quickly as we would like to admit all the patients we are looking to care for. Given the industry we are in and the lack of nurses in general, this will be faced by any company in this space. FFHC responds to this with a candidate- centric recruiting model, preceptor programs, and Critical Care Transitions programs.

If you are a hard working ops/sales/recruitment professional, with goals to move up, and want to be able to see the faces of the families you impact- there is no better place to do it. If you are a nurse looking for the same, or even looking to develop your skill set and work in the homes of our kiddos- you won't find a better company to do it with.

Overall I enjoy my job, my clients, the families, and the office employees but that's where it ends. The company as a whole I wish would look out for their employees better and maybe they'll retain them better.

I rely on my job to support my family and home... It's absolutely ridiculous that every single time I get sick whether it's a mild cold, stomach bug, etc... I have to take a COVID test at my own expense then take another 48 hours later. I get your trying to protect your clients but I would say about 95% of the time when I get sick it's from my client or client's family. So not only am I loosing time time from work, I have to go out and about to get a test when I don't feel well, and/or I'm loosing time from work when I may already feel better. You don't have the families get tested at their expense to protect us from illness and loss of income... You never know your employ may have health issues of their own causing them not to handle illnesses well.

I don't know of any other home care company that does this.... Especially in 2025. Or if you want this to be your policy then fork out the price of the COVID tests, supply your employees with COVID tests and compensate them accordingly to time lost. I shouldn't have to use the tiny bit of PTO I work hard for every time I get sick by the client's household...

 Which gets to my other complaint the tiny amount of PTO they offer you should know is less than half of your regular hourly rate.  This COVID policy and lack of decent benefits has me wanting to look for another job...

I love working in Home Health with pediatric patients. When I first interviewed with Family First everyone seemed friendly and helpful and I was excited to work for them even though the pay was not great. Now it's even worse. Family First has made its second pay cut to nurses in less than two years! I was just told that my pay is now being cut another $1.00 an hour. They act like that isn't much per hour but it adds up to over $200.00 a month pay! I have a budget that we live by and this cut is not acceptable, it's not like I can call my mortgage lender or car loan company and tell them my pay was cut so I need to pay you less! Furthermore, the benefits they offer are mediocre at best and at outrageous prices. I don't know about you but I can't afford to work just to pay for health insurance, especially terrible insurance with high deductibles. There is so little incentive to work for this company now other than the children I care for. You will not be compensated more for higher acuity patients nor will you receive any type of raise or bonus. I wonder how much money per hour those in administration/office staff had their pay cut by. When will these Home Health Agencies realize without nurses to work in the field they would have no agency at all. So disappointed with you FFH.

I can't say enough great things about Family First. In my 5 months of being an employee of this company, I have not only received support professionally, but also personally. Having that type of culture in the office, enables me to relay that energy to the nurses and families that I connect with on a daily basis. I won't go without saying that the work is definitely hard and not for those who aren't willing to put in hard work - but the hard work pays off because you go home feeling like you are making a difference in family and nurses lives. Which at the end of the day, makes the hard work worth it. Every day, I wake up excited to put the work in, because we have a company that actually stands behind our mission statement. If you put in the work and are doing this work for the right reasons, you will see endless opportunities in growth and career advancement. If you are looking for a place to be your authentic self and do meaningful work, this is the place for you. I look forward to my many future years of being with Family First Homecare.

I've really enjoyed working for this company as a private duty nurse. One of the biggest perks is the high level of autonomy—I’m trusted to do my job without micromanagement, which makes a huge difference in my day-to-day satisfaction. The office staff are fantastic responsive, kind, and genuinely supportive. I feel like I have what I need to succeed and am part of a team, even while working independently. Scheduling is very flexible, and management has been accommodating with the specific days I’m available to work. This makes it a great option for nurses needing a bit more control over their work-life balance. The main downside is the pay, which is lower than average for RNs in the area. There’s also no shift differential, which is something to consider if you're used to higher-paying clinical roles. However, the reduced stress level and positive work environment make it a worthwhile trade-off for me. Overall, I recommend this company to nurses looking for a supportive, low-stress role with flexibility and strong office support.

Working as a PCA with Family First has been a rewarding and eye-opening experience. The job centers on compassion, patience, and building real relationships with clients, which makes the work feel meaningful. Family First does a good job matching PCAs with clients who fit their skills and personalities, and the training provided helps you feel prepared before starting. Management is generally supportive and responsive when questions or issues come up, and scheduling is fairly flexible, which is helpful for maintaining work–life balance. Like any caregiving role, the job can be physically and emotionally demanding at times, but it’s also deeply fulfilling to see the positive impact you make on someone’s daily life. Communication could occasionally be improved, especially during schedule changes, but overall the company values its employees and clients. Family First is a solid choice for anyone interested in caregiving and making a difference.

Working for Family First Homecare has been a true honor. I can genuinely say I have never loved working for a company as much as I love working for FFHC. The growth opportunity is there without a doubt and the leadership is real. I cannot stand working for a company that only acts and talks corporate. Here we can work, joke, laugh and communicate openly. You are not reprimanded for having your own mind and opinions. You are rewarded and listened to. I can not say enough about this company and the people I work for and with. I started as an SCM (Scheduling Coordination Manager) and now have transitioned into a Director role in just a little over two years. I can not wait for my next opportunities to come and hope to stay with FFHC as long as I possibly can. As long as you have a good work ethic, attention to detail, and a drive to want to succeed, you are applying to the right place.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Family First is the most genuinely caring home health company I have worked for in 20 years! They not only allow me to work around my son’s school schedule, but they are pleasant to work with as well! 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There’s no stress that is especially associated with Family First. Any job stress is just the nature of the work, not because of Family First itself. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
People are amiable, and genuinely caring. They go out of their way to show us nirses that we are appreciated, and feels like an extension of family. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
I work 3 days a week in a patient’s home. I stay in communication with the office through phone calls, texts, and emails. They also occasionally come out for in lesson check ins, and vice versa.

I have felt recently that the office staff has had a lot of turn over rate and it makes families and nurses feel unsure of who to go to when an issue arises. Management has been supportive and responsive when large problems occur and lend a feeling of stability. The hardest part of my job usually consists of reassuring families when nursing coverage is sparse and they must rearrange their lives to have someone home and capable of caring for their ill family member. The best part of my job is our patients and families. You build close bonds and become dedicated to your patient load due to such intimate working environments. Pay rate is fairly average but allows for copious overtime. Other companies in home health may pay a higher wage but don't offer consistent cases like this company provides.

This is a great company to work for. Everyone, in all positions; from CEO to office staff are down to earth and respectful of each other. The work atmosphere is always professional, friendly and energetic.  If one asks for training it is provided without question. It truly feels like each persons growth is important to the management; both as a group and individually. A typical day at work is busy but manageable because there is always someone available to answer questions throughout the company. It seems that everyone is happy to help whether you are familiar with them or not; one big team. I truly believe the company has a culture of promoting from within. The most difficult part of the job is working with families and field staff that as issues often arise. The best part of the job is helping our clients and families whom really benefit from our services.
