The FRBP is a adequate employer. There are not so many opportunities for advancement for certain positions so employees need to be strategic. There does seem to be some serious bureaucracy in the higher ranks that results in lack of transparency in decision making as well as high tolerance of poor performers. They don't have the best learning program for people who arrive without skills so the problem appears to persist.This appears to be a focus they are working to change. And some new leadership appears focused on driving this change. Not a bad place to work if you are highly competent in the skills you are hired for and can add value or drive change for the better.

My day being by looking at coffee break orders and setting trays to get ready for orders. Setting up private dining room for the lunch hour and check to see if we had private parties like President of the bank. I learned how to juggle a lot of things especially when we had big events like Holiday Christmas Party for bank officers and there wives. This was the enjoyable part of my job. Because i got to show of other people like the banks officers my leadership skills. i would say hardest part of my would be communication among staff. Just trying to have everybody on the same page was a challenge.

There are a lot of smart, dedicated people working at the Fed. Unfortunately, they have to work in a sclerotic, conservative working environment, and the management culture is detrimental to many employees' morale.

FRB Philadelphia is what you make of it career wise.  All the tools are there to grow your career, you just need to put in the time and effort to excel.  The benefits and work life balance are fantastic, even if we would prefer a little more.  The people you work with and quality of work make it the most enjoyable place I have ever been employed.  I have been there over 13 years and had 10 years experience prior.

FRB of Philadelphia was one of the best places I've ever worked for. It gave you opportunities to further your education,  travel, save money, invest, and discover things you didn't know about money, people, different companies and what they have to offer. This was a riveting fun filled, family oriented, and educating place to work for.

Great benefits and a surprisingly competitive salary, though you'll have to actively challenge yourself to keep your skills current with the marketplace. Many lifers and dinosaurs who stopped trying years or decades ago can make life miserable, and since they have a pension and can't really be fired, you have to learn to work with them, work around them, or leave. Like any company, it is what you make of it.

your colleges and supervisors are around you all the time. Ask them for anything and they will come and help you right away. Shows you how things works and what need to be done step by step. Pretty much friendly environment from employee to vice president.

In my current position I've been given the opportunity to expand the depth of what I've learned.  For example, a recent migration from Lotus Notes to Outlook allowed me to expand from Lotus Domino to Microsoft Exchange.  I make it a point each day to be able to say that I've learned something new, no matter how small that bit of new knowledge may be.

Pros: The benefits.

Cons: Everything else.

This place is not worth it.  Management is terrible yet everything is dependent on middle management.  Senior management do not listen, respect, or take employee input in any beneficial ways, yet they will force "surveys" on employees nonstop.

This is a terrible place from top to bottom.

The environment is stagnant and outdated.  Management does not care about employee education or advancement.  Management can be two faced in the fact that they can tell you that you are doing a great job, and then give you a horrible performance evaluation.
