I'll begin by saying that this place gave me great experience as a young guy and taught me to work with several different types of people in a manufacturing environment. I also met some of my best friends here. Unfortunately, this came at a monumental cost. 

There is no structured training program for salaried employees which leads to you having to learn everything on your own. Expectations from your actual manager are not communicated from the beginning of employment, and they are never brought up if you do something wrong either. Everything seemed to remain passive aggressive. So, you could be doing everything wrong only to have all your flaws brought up in your first performance review. Speaking of, these "reviews" are code for "here's EVERYTHING you're doing wrong. Fix it in a couple weeks or you're fired." I wish I was kidding. Instead of managers helping their employees themselves to correct their mistakes and giving constructive criticism (prior to the performance review), they provide no help and watch over you like a hawk. I felt like they were just there to point out your mistakes. They only expected results out of me and didn't bother to get to know me beyond just work. In general, management needs to focus more on treating their employees less like robots and more like humans. While some managers are very intelligent, there's a fine line between being smart and being a good manager. 

There was also a lot finger pointing that went on here. There were daily quality spills in my department, and management's answer to this was simply writing up operators without actually training them to help them understand their mistake. I once had a manager blame me and only me for all the quality issues in my department. I didn't make the parts, and I also got in trouble for instructing operators to sort parts even if it meant shutting down production for a short time (which seemed to be the dark horse in the plant). It was clear that the culture here was getting parts out the door, good or bad, was first priority. Most of our machines were over 70 years old and we were somehow expected to make quality parts out of them. Money was being put into the wrong places in the plant, and was not put into where we actually need it. With us having a lot of customers overseas, there were also a lot of racial slurs thrown around (mostly as jokes), which I felt uncomfortable with. Cussing was also very frequent (surprisingly more so with managers).  

These were just a couple of my experiences working here. This is definitely the school of hard knocks and you will learn a lot, unfortunately at your own expense. Proceed with extreme caution.

This is one location on a downward death spiral affected by cheaper overseas manufacturing. This location has reduced headcount more than 700% over the past decade. 

The management team's philosophy is to permanently throw the load on other employees' when someone quits, or retires. I often seen three jobs that were ultimately combined into one. This creates a 'hanging by the seat of your pants' environment which is not fun, nor provides a quality learning experience. 

Management Team is very uncaring towards their valuable employees. They appear to be very stressed and unhappy with their jobs and lives. They only care about getting parts out on time with little or no regard to quality or safety when time is a crucial factor. If any quality or safety issues arose, the employee is almost always to blame. The manufacturing manager spends her time bullying employees, taking away anything they may find enjoyable or fun. 

On a positive note, my co-workers were some of the best I've ever worked with. Many of them had been with the company for 30+ years and told me stories about how fun and enjoyable it was until Federal-Mogul purchased the company. The hours were also very desirable. It was typically an 8 hour shift, with a paid or unpaid lunch. Little to no overtime during the week, but Saturday work is very possible. 

Overall, I would not recommend working for this company due to the management team, culture, and the fact I predict that 100% of the parts made here will at some point be produced at one of their overseas facilities. 

If you're looking for a temporary job until you find something better, like the hours / job location , can put up with everything, and are prepared for a career change at some point in your life then this may be worth a look at.

We all want to do the best at any job, this is not always possible when your work environment is driven by a hostility , anger, selfishness, nepotism, personal gain, intimidation and threats!  

It could be a great company to work for if management could see pass their own lack of accomplishment, Egos, and personal issues. 

This is what I learned from working at this plant, inside this company; 
Mangers that manages based on their personal management style, . Who talks to their employees like they are they're children, not their co-workers.

*Managers that receives inadequate training form upper management, and then when they struggle with the position, their mistakes are then covered up and dismiss as the jealous meandering of other employees.

*Managers who display an attitude of selfishness, and threaten employee to get things done,and if you disagree with them, you would be demotes, and denied the opportunity for advancement.
*Managers who can't communicate or associate with their employers because of preconceive racist stereotypes, and who reject some employees simply because of their personal responsibilities outside the job.

* Managers who use nepotism as a way of managing, surrounding themselves with other employees who feel and act with the same nepotistic attitude, promoting them even if they aren't qualified, just to keep the "Kiss a** game" & the "Don't get mad, get even" attitude prevalent in the work environment.  

Hard-working managers and employees who give more than they are given, and who put forth ever effort to do the job,, even when they aren't appreciated or acknowledge by management.   
Employees who laugh, love and will help anyone, no matter how wrong they are, just so the job is done.

You are given minimal training (most times a day or two at best) to do jobs considered highly skilled such as press mold changeovers, machine calibrations, inspections, and and written up/chastised if unable to do these jobs which should be weeks of training. Management ignores you if you ask for more training saying you should already know from that limited training given. Do not get hurt, they do not like to file accident reports even if you turn it in the incident they'll brush it off. If you actually get hurt they'll deny it ever happened. Hr lady is rude, unhelpful, and will say one thing to an employee while saying the exact opposite to others. Which is common knowledge to any of the workers there. It's even said never go to the HR lady simply because she will treat you like than decent and be as counterproductive as possible. It's also said never leave paperwork with her unless you physically hand it to her as it mysteriously tends to go missing. Positive is coworkers make the job bearable and the ones that do stay as most have a short shelf life if they make it past the 90 days, out of 6 people 2 usually last, out of those 2, 1 last 6 months and that 1 person if you're lucky stays 12 months. No sick days or personal days. Positive is after 2 years you start getting decent pay, negative part is during those two years you'll be wrote up and thrown under the bus multiple times for lack of training and them trying to find reasons not to progress you to tier 1. Also management is a revolving door, new supervisor/managers every few months continously as they quit as fast as workers do.

After being there for nearly 5 years I have moved fast throughout the foundry from nights to days in 2 and 1/2 years which is even faster now. I have learned 90% of the casting cells in the foundry and can run them better then most of my peers... However this does me no justice in the end as good work is never rewarded and all effort is overlooked till you have a bad day and they expect the same 150% you've been giving yet overlook the guys who have been performing at 50% since day 1. The job caters to the incompetent and demands a lot from the few good workers. The older guys there can get away with murder because they refuse to learn the new machinery that is mandatory for the new staff. Other operators will help you get by if they like you. 

Its a Foundry it gets upscale of 115° in the summer and stays 80° in the winter. You WILL get burned the cells are HOT very hot like lose skin from a fraction of a second of contact, if you wear the coat they give you it will spare you from the worst of it but you will still get burnt. 

There is particles in the air from degassing our furnaces that they seem to not show great interest in fixing ventilation. You will get very dirty heavily varying on your mechanical skills, Grease Oil Grim etc. Your job title is Cell Operator but you will be required to learn a great deal of Mechanical work Process technician even Engineering in the newer cells those job titles also exist there, however you are paid for being a cell operator. Don't over achieve here and you will be fine.

Worked as a temp at Federal Mogul, York for 6 months in the Inventory Control department. The job suited me well. 4 10 hour days a week, 3 days off every week, no mandatory overtime, nice and competent co workers and supervisors, relaxed atmosphere, easy work, very little physical work. Overall was a good place. A lot of those things couldnt be said outside of of Inventory. 

Overall in the warehouse, people are friendly or indifferent. A big percentage of the warehouse speaks spanish, and some speak little english, so sometimes it can be hard to communicate or connect if you dont. 

Management is clueless. The warehouse is run very ineffectively and huge amounts of inventory is lost everyday. I recall the receiving department once lost nearly $1.5million worth of inventory in under 2 weeks. Most of it was found within a month, but its wild that it even happens.

Also, if youre a clean freak (or even just a reasonable person), you might not wanna venture to the break area. The sink in the kitchen area is pulled away from the wall and behind it is all moldy and nasty. Theres a big bug problem, mainly roaches, in the break area. They run around when the lights go on. Theyre in the sink, on the counters, on the walls, even crawling around in the water coolers.

In short: The job itself is good, with good people, and a relaxed atmosphere (in Inventory Control at least), but the warehouse in general is run really poorly, and the cleanliness is non existent seeing as roaches roam the break area freely and the sink is always clogged by food.

I am not going to say about the company in general, but I am going to speak about one particular department where I was unlucky to work for 8 days.
TCL Pressing Production department and to be clear is one of the Quality Control inspection teams is terrible place to work and the reasons are that many and I am going to name them all. If You ready that some inadequate, agressive, bad mannered women are going to shout on You and bully You, then you will be okay. Miserable training provided, miserable lighting around working place, miserable behaviour towards new starters, no proper equipment provided, sometimes even no gloves to cover Your hands and the worst case scenario is that You will be sacked the same day if You tell Management about people are bullying others. Miserable Management and Teamleaders, who don't count You as a human being. Ignorant, bad educated, not professional people in charge. The dirtiest building I have ever worked for, the smallest and dirtiest canteen I have ever seen. Not safe! So if You ready for that kind of circumstances then You don't have to worry about the job to do. I will describe theese 8 working days for Federal Mogul Coventry as the most disgusting working experience for my last 16 years of my working career. AVOID that place!

My co-workers were wonderful people, but management was poor. Even when production was ahead by a week to even three weeks, we were all on a constant 7-day work week, including having to stay over or come in early depending on the shifts. When asked, their answer was "Just Because..." or "we need to get further ahead." It is my belief they were trying to target specific people for termination and giving a completely different, and bogus, reason for it. For example, there were three different people, all diabetic, who were covered for their absence by FMLA when having to miss due to diabetic issues, but after a minor occurance with their production (even if the situation was fixed) they were given a write-up, placed on probation (which is to be done on next occurance, not on first) and then terminated for whatever occurance happened next. In the near five years I worked there, our longest stretch of 7 days went on for 5 months straight, and often denied vacation time. The pay was excellent, especially for that region, but one can only work so long without time off to actually rest. If you're willing to, almost literally, work yourself to death, I would recommend Federal Mogul for it's pay rates only. Otherwise, it was a nightmare to work at.

This is a great Company with lots of opportunities, but the employees and management have a culture  needs much work. They do not get along, there is much under estimation of one and another, rather than working together. These culture, has nothing to do with the organizational culture or values, which had not been assimilated by the employees or management. The company offers a great pay and benefits, its a very secure job. There management gives poor value to its hard working people and they have little life work balance. There is also a big need for employees recognition and incentives. That was my experience working and observing things in one of the plants. I hope others plants are different. I would like to see more employee recognition, incentives, and more involvement between management and floor employees. I tried it in my area and many people was happy. It was very good to see people happy at work, and willing to get involved in projects that before were only managed by management. They like to be part of the whole thing and see how their input is valued. Until Management decide to work on that, this company will not advance as it could be. It has lots of potential, but this should come from within.

I worked at Federal Mogul in Smithville TN. I was hired through SMX Staffing. SMX Staffing works exclusive for Federal Mogul. Managment gives you 8 days to be 100% proficent or you are out the door. I worked 4 days on 6 packs stacking boxs on pallets and was told I was doing a good job. Then I was moved to another job for three and half days and was told I had not learned the job quickly enough so I was no longer needed. T R of SMX staffing is up front with you at the start of the job that Federal Mogul is hard to work for. They have a list of over 9,000 (yes 9,000) people not allowed to work for Federal Mogul in Smithville. The deal is, if you work for them and quit or are fired, you can never ever work for them again. Sad when you consider that Smithville has a population of only 3900. So almost triple what the population of Smithville can't work at Federal Mogul. And Smx Staffing works for Federal Mogul so they are more interested in their jobs then fighting for your job. Federal Mogul has no training program. They show you the job and expect you to have it down pat quickly. No 60 or 90 day probation period like other factories. In the short time I was there I found out there are quite a few people that hate working for this company.
