This is my first experience in office culture and working the 40 hr work week, not to mention it's an internship. So my experience should be taken with a grain of salt. Overall, it was a great experience to finally get into my first job on the market, finally gain a reasonable amount of experience. The work culture is great, funny people I've worked well with, a great manager (at least in my department), and all helpful most of the time when I needed them (as it's a busy department I worked in).

Great introduction into the workforce, competent management, & good people to work with.

This was an internship for three months, so I only received experience for three months. A few people were unhelpful/nonresponsive when I needed to contact them for a tech issue I needed to troubleshoot FOR THEIR benefit, but for how positive the environment was, there was at least one unprofessional Department/Manager. Who didn't care if my colleague or I were an intern. Only wanting tech issues to be handled and completed in a specific timely manner.

I honestly loved the people I was working with but the company is another story. They are so afraid to do anything that might be considered slightly risky. They are constantly sending out memos and "contracts" you have to sign about member service and member security. We get it, we are not going to give out member info to anyone. This becomes a big problem with members in terms of convenience. On top of that, they don't want people to move up. You can be super qualified for a position and they would rather find someone outside of the company. There is also favoritism in the company. If you are looking to move up and grow in a company, look somewhere else. Lastly, be wary of accepting a part time position here. This company will milk you for every hour they can get out of you if you are part time. I was working 45 hours a week for about 6 months because our department was consistently short staffed. They would not give me or anyone working part time full time status. Then when they finally have the man power to deal with being short staffed they pay back your hard work and dedication by kicking you to the curb and dropping your hours.

Working as a Branch Manager at Financial Partners Credit Union in Downey revealed a clear shift away from what many expect a credit union to represent. Instead of prioritizing member education, financial well-being, and responsible guidance, the environment leaned heavily toward aggressive sales targets—even pushing products that didn’t always align with members’ actual needs. This created an internal conflict between doing what’s right for members and meeting performance expectations tied to sales. While the compensation and benefits package was relatively strong, it didn’t fully make up for the pressure to prioritize numbers over service. Work-life balance and advancement opportunities felt limited, and the overall culture reflected more of a traditional sales-driven institution rather than a member-first credit union.

Indirect Lending Representative - 
Solely created and successfully launched indirect lending program.

Traveled 90% of the time to coordinate/partner with automotive dealerships to successfully exceed target monthly goals

Worked with lending team to steam line loan production 

Hardest part of the job was constant traveling and on call availability.  Worked dealership hours, so late nights and holidays - would have to be readily available.

Most enjoyable part of the job was flexibility.  Could work early mornings through late evenings...dealerships seemed to be always open.

I came into the business with no banking experience and they really sat down and taught me the basics. I worked here for maybe a year and 6 months and I can say I have learned a lot. They really helped me on putting my foot in the door. The daily tasks were pretty simple, sometimes a day may be overwhelming but not to the point where it is too much to handle. I was always busy, always learning something new and that's what I loved most about my job. Although, my job was very calm and easy going, I am ready for a change in my life and I feel as if I need an extra push. I found myself get used to things and the same old routine. I like change, and I then found myself not moving up. I am ready to learn much more new things and hopefully I find a new company who will help me accomplish my new goals.

While the people within the office are generally pleasant to work with, the company struggles with organizational structure and workload balance.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
New hires expecting hands-on consulting experience may be disappointed, as most responsibilities revolve around administrative and analytical support tasks rather than strategic client engagement. The environment can become stressful due to unclear growth opportunities, repetitive work, and ongoing turnover within leadership roles.

What is the best part of working at the company?
On the positive side, coworkers were welcoming and supportive, and the branch atmosphere felt more relaxed and less traditional than many other institutions.

High sales pressure, poor work-life balance

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The company maintains a strong focus on sales performance, which can make achieving a healthy work-life balance difficult.

Training was about six weeks, then side by sides for the following two weeks. When I was doing side by sides I would have preferred a supervisor. Instead of sitting with just any member rep; most of them are busy trying to text and hide from the manager from noticing. I would ask the rep a question and they wouldn't answer it or say that to make up the answer.  I was shocked. They also don't have too much support at the Costa Mesa location. No managers just staff that are just as lost as you.

FPCU was a great place to work, it was a very member service oriented company. However, it started functioning more like a bank, becoming more vested in increasing sales and membership numbers than service. One huge draw back, which occurred after I left, they put in a bullet proof glass winder between the tellers and members. 

This company places a very strong emphasis on sales performance. Maintaining a healthy work-life balance can be challenging, as the expectations often require a significant personal time commitment. On the positive side, the team is welcoming and supportive, and the branch environment feels less traditional compared to other institutions.
