First Call Home Health

This company appears good on paper but ultimately writes a check it can’t cash. I was initially excited about working for first call for many reasons. The recruiter made many pitches that appealed to me including work culture, work life balance, pay and benefits, and the freedom of managing your own time.  I was initially led to believe that First Calls business philosophy of putting the patients at the center was directly linked to the quality work environment and satisfaction that it offered its employees. It didn’t take me long to figure out that the owners and company managers  care about neither clients or employees.  I really enjoyed the nature of home health work and rewarding experiences I had with many of the patients but quickly grew tired of the unrealistic expectations and lack of support from middle and upper management. Hours were long, charting was horrendous, and on call expectations were unreasonable (mandatory 24 hour shifts that cover their entire region.) I found myself thrown into many situations that were unsafe, or beyond my scope and was just told to proceed anyways.  A lot of very excellent dedicated staff but my experience was that there was very little support/sympathy from management and lots of back stabbing.  In addition the organization has a fundamentalist religious backdrop that never sat well with me. Meetings are run almost like power church sessions and I’m fairly certain that a few employees were terminated based on the company owners religious beliefs.  I wouldn’t recommend this company even if you enjoy home health. Like I said they make a good impression at first but the mask drops quickly.  Don’t do it…

Profit is priority for the CEO and upper management. I feel like they send RNs into the field without the proper experience, training and support. Was told to “google it” when asking for guidance on procedures. How insanely unsafe is that? Also the workload is heavier than any other home health agencies. If the concern that one couldn’t reasonable and safely complete the visits and charting, ordering supplies for the next day, etc.. in the 8 hr  day managment would tell you it’s your fault, ineffectual tube time management etc..,meanwhile management and office staff are going to the gym and having catered lunches during the work day. The CEO doesn’t have a background in health care and doesn’t have any understanding of what it’s like in the field. Only cares  about making a profit. All under the guise of being a good Christian. If you’re Christian you may like it here but if you’re not religious or if you ascribe to other religions or have a non traditional lifestyle or values you feel really out of place here as the staff meetings feel like sermons and God will be thanked for all the work you are actually doing to make them $$$

Found it to be a very strange work place ultimately because of the CEO/owners. Religious focus of senior management made me really uncomfortable. CEO seemed very out of touch with diversity of life experiences and reality of clinicians experiences in the field. Saw a lot of wonderful employees not treated very well or appreciated, and much turnover of managers and office staff.

During the interview process, First Call Home Health makes you feel that their environment is a very supportive, positive, compassionate environment. However, that is the exact opposite of this company.

This company is very negative, will not support you as a worker and only interested in making a profit. Thay lack compassion or empathy for worker or patients. The management was awful in their treatment of me! They did want a nurse to do their job but just to make the visit so they could charge for the service. At time, I found some calls were high acuity and I was “talked to” for taking the extra time because it meant more money out of their pocket. 
Some of the worker there are descent but overall, they just hire to put a nurse in the field. They don’t care about skills, compassion or empathy.


I have been with the company for 13 years, so I may be a little biased. I have chosen to work through  issues I may have had, which have been few and far between, and I am so glad I did.  I have worked both out in the field as an RN Case Manager and in Management.  I have always felt well supported by my direct supervisor and by the company at large. I am so proud and thankful to be working at First Call, it truly is a caring organization and goes above and beyond for their patients, the community and their employees. 
Home health is an incredibly rewarding job and First Call provides the tools to really make a  positive difference in a patient's life. 

On hire they make the company look good and speak of a caring compassionate company. However, after a few weeks the realizations kicks in that this is a very poor company.

This company does not support their workers and have very poor integrity. There is no compassion or caring for either employees or patients. There main concern is profit! Management is very poor, have no integrity, comrade or morals. This is the worse company I have worked for. If you are looking for a decent place to work this is not the company. Overall, this is by the worse company I have worked for! I have learned that to take my time in picking a job. Listen to the negative reviews about this company, they speak the truth.

-Management works hard to approve PTO and make sure clinicians have a good work life balance
-Self motivated clinicans with good time management skills and a great work ethic excel in this field.
-Clinicans desiring to work at the top of their scope and who enjoy teaching patients how to mange their own medical conditions to the best of their ability find this specialty fulfilling.

I was so excited to work here and it was great for a while! What a disapointment though. Very high turnover of staff now. Although the work and patients are great, the owner's fiancee has terrible ideas. What a difference a year has made! FCHH used to stand for something. They used to treat patients and staff like family! Lately I have seen amazing employees bullied into doing things out of their scope/degree. It has been really difficult to watch. Make sure you protect yourself at all times if you decide to take a job here. Owner and their family refuse to wear masks or stay 6' away from people. To them, it seems like a test of your faith. I couldn’t be happier working for First Call.  From the moment I started, I knew it was going to be amazing.  And it has been nothing short of incredible.  The management is so dedicated to their teams, the owner and CEO truly and sincerely care about each and every one of their employees, and the work life balance is great.  Regular check ins with my boss keep me motivated and feeling valued.  Seeing Jacob the CEO in the hallways is so great because he always takes the time to say hi and see how everything is going.  I absolutely love working here, and I am so grateful for this job.  

Completed training process was great! Then went to scheduling sit down to set up hours and they wanted 24 hours shifts! I was dumbfounded after training when the manager fired me! Loved the hiring lady and the training nurses. Everybody seemed great but management needs a lot of help… just crazy that you can give two weeks at current employer, do all their training, and then Right before start work… Informed that there is no flexibility with schedules!! 
No discussion just let go… On the spot at training completion… their Loss! There is no communication between hiring and management and training…
