A lot of the low-level employees are very great and competent people, which makes the company culture and events a good amount of fun. Coworkers often spend time together outside of the office at local events or bars. The company also sponsors a weekly happy-hour event with beer, wine, and food.

Salary is at or slightly above average for the area after accounting for position. However, the company does not adjust compensation in any merit-based way (anecdotally, I do not know of anyone's pay being adjusted at all). Stock options for some employees -- worth is debatable at a private company. (I don't see the company going public or selling.)

Office hours are lax, which is nice, but completely dependent on the whim of management. A coworker of mine was regularly harassed by their manager after hours, on weekends, and even while on vacation, all while their project was perfectly on track. All in all quite varying depending on position and team. Same goes for the vacation policy -- it's "unlimited," but all vacation time must be approved by management.

Rather than provide or sponsor parking, the company forces many employees to park in public, uncovered parking.

Management accepts only projects completed as an indicator of workload; if projects aren't being shipped, employees are wasting their time. The result is a just-get-it-done process that produces half-baked products and a lot of technical debt. Deadlines lean to the unreasonable side, and employees are expected to work nights and weekends to make them work, with no extra compensation.

An inordinate amount of time is wasted on process, which is surprising for such a small company.

Lots of zealots, lots of kool-aid. The CEO is revered to a point that's frankly disturbing. This is a result of most of upper management (and about half or more of regular employees) being a good-ole-boys club that worked together at a previous company for decades. Bad decisions and general incompetence go unchallenged. There's also some Peter Principle happening. 

I have voiced my concerns in the past and have seen no progress in addressing any of the things mentioned here.

The company has a People First philosophy that is immediately felt on day 1.  Everyone is treated with respect and valued.  The services provided by the company make life easier and safer for people.  There are company events that are extremely fun and useful for networking inside the company.  There is a weekly "Beer30" where everyone gets together for drinks upstairs.  The location in Argenta NLR is perfect.  There is a state of the art gym with an on staff personal trainer.  The company is growing rapidly with room to move up within.  I seriously can't think of a better place to work.  

I've had a positive experience working at FO. The company offers exciting opportunities for growth, a supportive team, and leadership that values skillsets. The work environment is collaborative, and there’s a strong emphasis on professional development.

I've worked at places where they say it's people first but the culture is just forced and ultimately doesn't work as advertised. The one thing that stands out is how much of a "people first" company First Orion is. They don't just plan fun events and call it a good culture but decisions are made with the employees in mind and for their benefit. This is a great employee led culture and I can see my career advancing here as the company continues to grow!

One of the best places I’ve worked. You get to work on whatever projects you want. Leadership are very supportive and are remote friendly. Not too much meetings so you get to focus on Actual work items. There is an on call rotation that can be annoying but you get paid extra for that

Fun place to work gives out lunches and has social events. Have many meetings to make sure everyone knows what is going on, and can give feedback about what you are doing.
