First Bank Florida is not a place for anyone with ambition and looking for growth opportunities.  They have zero support system and the employee retention is lower than any other institution I have ever worked for. My branch was great but typically you have to be "one of them" to move up.  I was with First Bank for almost seven years and while I got to finish my degree and grow personally my career development was at zero.  They have an outdated system, outdated methods, extreme micro-management and no upper management support provided to branches but will be quick to point fingers.  Also, Florida have zero capacity to make any decisions, everything must be approved through Puerto Rico and it takes days and maybe weeks while you sit and wait and keep having to answer your customers and apologize for something that is not in your control.  People's home insurance have been canceled and it's been a disaster because of PR delays and incompetencies. 
The branch VP's direct support who is supposed to support and help the branches look down on everyone else and the way she talks is so condescending.  The pay is another issue.  The lowest and the worst of them all, they will not give you a raise but expect you to work all departments duties and be okay with it. Bottom line you'll learn to work every departments work with minimum pay and no growth. 

I worked in an area that felt almost like family. Because our area was isolated, we were mostly free to joke around and chitchat while completing our tasks. There I could actually trust my colleagues which helps with stress.

The culture outside of my department had its ups and downs, especially the branches. There was a particular branch manager who behaved as entitled and was an unpleasant person to deal with. She would complain to the executives to get her way (she caused a lot of turnover at her branch). The pay wasn’t great, very little raises since covid. But I prefer the environment there than where I’m at now.  My boss mostly was great, except when he’d get upset and started yelling at you. I’m sure he knew that he could get away with that because the rest of us wouldn’t talk back. I mean nobody wants to lose their job.

The day starts with checking emails and work orders. We completely requests made any necessary calls and trained customers in using company resources. I was able to work a little later than the rest of the team. Also I didn’t have to drive in the same direction as rush hour traffic. 

A typical day at work is coming in to do the same thing you done for 4+ years without any raise.. I started as a temp and only make a little more than temp pay. I have learned something about every different department. Literally was so motivated to work at FirstBank and excel at it. But, I learned quickly that you will not move up in the company unless you know someone, or the bank could by another and you be quickly replaced no matter how much you know or how long you've been there.. 
Overall though, I really enjoyed working there in the beginning.. they use to care about their employees. We would get tickets to games for free and pot lucks etc. We actually felt like a "family", now it is just a logo to keep customers at the bank. 

A typical day at work is balanced. I have had the opportunity of learning a lot since I have acquired many jobs by default due to management change. The overall culture of the workplace is very good in paper, not in practice at times. The hardest part of the job is that the leaders are not aligned with their requests to middle management making it hard to complete a task without being interrupted. The most enjoyable part of the job is that, since I have been there for 12 years, I know all of their style and I know the job very well.

A typical day of work wasn't too stressful, I believe I learned the soft people skills I needed to become more organized as an individual. The management helped me work along my own goals to become more successful with a team. The workplace culture was very inclusive and accepting. The hardest part of the job was not wanting to leave the overtime schedule. I enjoyed staying late and working on weekends to fulfill loan setup review, and complete maintenance verification sorting. The most enjoyable part of the job was attempting to make less errors and complete positive results. 

I really liked my tenure in FirstBank. However, if they want to get ahead and finally dethrone their biggest competitor, they need to be much more proactive in their revisions regarding employee benefits and their customer service policies if they want to retain up and coming talents in all their divisions. Lots of younger employees leave because of that.

The company hires low salaries and employees who aren’t knowledgeable and because of lack of understanding and comprehension there are way too many rules not followed with policies and procedures . The bank has bankers and tellers put together policies and procedures when updating what’s being asked by employees and not thorough an outsourced company who could provide more accurate and better processes that are easily streamlined. Too many favorites which allows the environment to be toxic

My boss was amazing. Always listened and willing to educate and train without hesitation.

Higher management talked out both sides of their mouths. Never knew what to believe.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Depends on the department in which you are in. Some better than others 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Always busy wish assigned work expectations. Made my day structured and my expectations known.

As a corporate banking analyst you will be assigned a portfolio of companies. This portfolio includes both, existing relationships and potential new clients. 
Your job is to perform financial statement analysis, budgets, stress tests, etc. Then, offer your informed/expert opinion about companies' current situation and future horizon. 
This is a lean management organization. Meaning that you will work directly with the portfolio manager and corporate lenders.

The bank has homey feel to it and everyone is really friendly and welcoming. The main con that I have with FirstBank is that upper management is a disaster. When it is time when a decision is needed to be made, you need to speak to 10 different people and you end up getting 10 different answers. Not many policies/procedures are in black and white. Many things are to the managers discretion. On the flip side, they treat employees as if they were family and celebrate many different occasions that keep you happy.
