Manage 600 severs w/ 520 being virtual servers. Part of a six person team that manages over 300 clinical and non applications. Manage a 62 server Citrix Farm that consists of over 1500 users’ and152 various applications. Managed the Thin Client project which was rolled out to 100 patient rooms in the new heart hospital. Developed the standardized thin client image for the roll out of thin clients throughout the organization.  In addition to Citrix, Perform Exchange Server 2003, Active Directory, Print Server, Blackberry, and remote user access support to Citrix duties.  Interface with all levels of management. Led the Varrow project that will impact future application deployments. Work with Virtual Machine software, building of virtual servers, management of both physical and virtual servers. Management of the Citrix farm, application deployment, users’ configuration and also user support of Citrix.  Hold weekly Citrix peer group meeting with directors and management to discover and resolve any issues that may present themselves. Deployment of the HP Device Manger server which manages the imaging and support of HP 5740 Thin clients.  The server group manages over 600 servers that impact 7000 users. Work with Clinical Analysts on deployment of new applications and upgrades.  Work with various McKesson applications, and work as support to those applications after hours.  Team member in the transition to Cisco UCS blade server from our ESXI HP format, which will save some 80 percent space and reduce our current heat index. The only reason I am still with this company is because there is no where else to go with my job license. Management is horrible, maybe one good manager out of hundreds. I try and work as hard as I can, just to have co workers slack off, tell jokes, talk on the phone, and relax. There are NO breaks. Sure, you'll get a lunch which is unpaid, you aren't allowed to leave campus, if you decided to get food from the cafeteria 60 to 80% of your time is standing in line to get food. More than 60% of my pay goes right back to the company. Insurance is high and not very good. I pay for a normal dr visit $135, no that doesnt include any premiums or extra tests and is NOT the high deductible plan. You have to pay a copay of $45, then a facility copay of $45, then co insurance of 10% on that, which is higher if it's not a first health facility. Which is about 35 to 43. Unfortunately my girlfriend and I cannot live on our own with two full time jobs. I am glad the hospital helps people without insurance but I see the bills they write off. And that would never be for an employee! It's better to have zero insurance and go to first health than go there with insurance! So much of my paycheck gets garnished I end up taking home $450 or $500 for 2 weeks pay. Yes I am full time and work at least 40 a week. I have taken 4 days off in the past 2 1/2 years. The only time i actually get off are after 4 weeks of swing shifts and you finally get so sick you cant stand up. But some how favorite employees always get everyday off they need. Where I'm forced to take a day off to be able to go to the doctor. I guarantee, you will never be thought of as first at first health, because they dont and dont want to care!

Second shift is worked way to hard for what the 10.00 we get. We are constantly left with 35-45 discharge rooms from 1rst shift. We are expected to do half of theirs and all of ours. Sometimes even doing some of 3rd shift responsibilities. Crothal should be removed as management for our department. No way should we be made to deal with non-first health management ever when we are first health employees. An outside company is only looking out for themselves and not us. It is obvious by how we are managed and treated. 10-15 rooms a night are averaged by 2nd shift evs workers, just on discharge rooms. This doesn't include the area people who may be required to do up to 5 discharges and their areas for the night.  1.00 more isn't nearly enough for the wage slavery that's being pulled over our department. Not only are we cleaning up behind the patients we are more so cleaning up behind the nurses that don't seem to care we have to haul 50 lbs worth of linen out of a room or pick up all their papers, trash or treatment materials off the floor and place into the trash can before we can even clean begin to clean up. 35 minutes is the golden time frame for cleaning a room. Believe its not enough time! we should be getting a 30 minute lunch and a 15 minute paid break. We are made to feel that the 15 minute break is by their permission. After 7-8 rooms you need a 15 minute break. I've had enough. Do  not come here trust me.

A typical day, started out working the patient service trayline area, delivering meals and menus to patients.Later worked inside cafeteria serving hot foods and making beverages. Some days, operating the cash register and filling out cash reports, Then making deposits.I finally advanced to cold food preparations, caterings for VP's and special functions. Years later, I received a promotion, along with more paper work, scheduling of staff, customer service training, programming of cash registers, audits of cash handling procedures, improving menus,counseling,and lots of hands on experience.A good working relationship with staff. Overall a great relationship with the customers and staff. The hardest part of job was the change over to outside management. It effected the moral and the menu changes, affected the press gainey score and the customers did not like the food offered and the increases in cost. The expansions and renovations were also a challenge. The enjoyable days were being a part of the fund raisers for united way and the manager's training classes offered, there were lots of training for the staff.

My unit is specific to patients in the immediate post-operative period for lung, heart, and vascular surgeries, although we receive any patients in need of intensive care. I have experience caring for patients immediately post-op lung and vascular surgeries and post-op day 1 coronary artery bypass grafting and/or heart valve replacement. My skills include use of Swan-Ganz catheters, arterial lines, CVP monitoring, BIS and Train of Four monitoring, slow low efficiency dialysis, and temporary pacers (epicardial, transvenous and transcutaneous). Furthermore, I have experience with electrocardiogram interpretation, mechanical ventilation, bipap and cpap, chest tubes, and many other advanced life support devices.
A typical day includes receiving patients in report through the nightshift team. A full head-to-toe assessment is completed on each patient at least every 4 hours or more often if ordered by physician. Hourly vital signs monitoring, continuous EKG monitoring/interpretation, immediate post-op monitoring of ventilated patients, assisting other RN's with any help needed. Carrying out each patient's plan of care for the day, and collaborating with physicians.

This time last year, I found myself in a position that no longer aligned with my family’s needs. A typical day at work consisted of patient care, answering call lights, passing medicine to patients, wound care, and running to meet the needs of patients and their families.

What I learned is, give your patients your best. They deserve that and more,yet don't allow yourself to become burned out. Management at this hospital is horrible. They only care about themselves and could care less that you may actually have a life and family outside of work! Mandatory overtime is routine...48-60 hours a week is a normal expectation. On-call is required and don't dare tell them you can't do it because management will chew you out...so not professional!!!! Co-workers, some are awesome and team players yet some are negative just like the manager and will make your time there stressful. Too much gossiping and backbiting! The pay there was sub par. Having experience in your field and skills means nothing... Just another warm body...that's what they make you feel like.

The only enjoyable thing about this job was the patients and knowing you made a difference in their life.

I love my patients that keeps me motivated to come in to work everyday. You will start off at $9.32 an hour you only get 0.18 raise a year. Its not much. Management is okay  I come to work and get paid and go home. I don't get involved what everybody got going on because its to much drama. He said or she said. One thing i do love about this job you can stay over or come in your day off if you want to. They wouldn't care.  We have a huge turnover. A lot of people don't stay that long. Some management are rude and talk to people any kind of way. Some people might look at you stupid like you not good enough. But they do put new people throughout the whole building and expect them to know the unit or floor she working in. Some management will hold you back from going to other department to work in and now you become stuck into just doing housekeeping nothing else. You will move to other floors every day . And you feel like you're body is twice the much work. The position is mostly full time. And you get all the benefits. Lunch discounts is okay maybe couple cents off but  its too expensive...

This was the best job I've had for many reasons.  Every year employees were given a raise.  The raises were typically anywhere between 2 and 4 percent depending on the employee's work quality throughout the year.  The company offered many health insurance options including dental and optical if desired.
Managers cared about the employees they managed.  They were always supportive when necessary.  For instance, if I had to deal with an unruly person on a helpdesk call, my manager was able to protect me when I was unable to completely satisfy the individual.
The company listened to problems and complaints from both employees and customers (patients), and made changes to accommodate whenever possible.
It was a very relaxed environment which made for happy employees that, in turn, desired to improve their quality of work.

FirstHealth was a cluster. It is a business first, and foremost. The last thing that place cares about is its staff, or patients. The only staff that matters to that organization have letters behind their names. In the security department we were constantly faced with violent psychs, violent detox patients, and all around combative patients where those instances could have been prevented if the patient had been treated with some decency to begin with. Nine violent patients out of ten that I personally would deal with were egged on by other staff members, but that doesn't matter because nothing will ever happen to staff members that have letters behind their names. 

All that matters is the money in that place. I was injured there multiple times in altercations that could have been prevented, but nobody wants to change anything. They just throw security in when it gets rough. Avoid this place if you can.
