Nice relaxed friendly environment,  but as a personal trainer you are only paid for the time you train so no hourly. Sometimes  people cancel, or if it takes months to build up your clientele you could train for 30 minutes  (which is only half of that hourly pay you were told plus tax deductions on your check). Pay checks don't seem to add up well even if you do have clients back to back. Which can be mentally exhausting because in a 4 hour span instead of 4 people you see 8 and you are writing workout plans and such for all that day. Not great room for advancement. Probably ok if you work from desk part time while in school. As a trainer sometimes you drive your gas for one person, 30 min, half your hourly pay, and they don't show. You can charge them but it's still apx 7$ to drive leave your house and go right back.  Plus you have to have your time totally blocked off for your availability which is why I'm not full time. It's like you are constantly on call, if you had plans that day because you schedule looked free, someone can easily be added spontaneously... good environment,  more than a grind for the trainers. Also 
Im not  sure why such large sums as far as salary are advertised for personal trainers. Even if you were full time and had clients back to back you still wouldn't make close to the 70k some listings advertise...but maybe each location is slightly different but doubt it.

Fitowrks kept just barley under the full time hour requirement so they didn't have to give me any benefits. The manager at the time did absolutely nothing and gave away so many free memberships that when a new manager came in, we had to turn away half of members. Fitworks got bought out by another gym then did not give any notice to employees or member that it would happen. When rumors of closing circulated, managers shut them down. We got bought out over night. I came into work on a Tuesday morning and was handed a sheet of paper and told to read it, it was telling us that were forever closing our doors that Friday. Members found out by us giving them that same paper as they came in. Fitworks gave employees no time to find new employment.

It's a minimum wage job albeit with commission.  The commission pay is laughable as well however.  Giving new, potential members a tour of the club and then trying to sell them memberships is the meat of the work.  Hounding people on the phone who came in but didn't join is also another major aspect of the job.

The people I work with are all great and I get a free membership as an employee. 

There are far too many ways to do simple things i.e.: Manual (handwritten) contracts and a third party billing company that's utterly ridiculous.  Contracts should be a template on the computer with typing in prices and the billing should be in-house.

Fitworks was a tough place to work at but an even tougher place to leave. Being in the customer service industry, i grew to like and adjust myself to clients, management and other staff. However, some of the other staff did not return the favor. I loved working with management and the clientele but the other staff made it increasingly difficult for me to stay there due to negative attitudes and personal grievances. The compensation was also lacking. Working very long hours and getting compensated next to nothing made leaving this place a little easier than anticipated.

I started off at full-time, and gradually my hours got cut. With a full-time position at Fitworks, there are health benefits but the position is very difficult. As a receptionist, there is no room to grow and it is very boring. We are required to be at a standing desk for our shift, not allowed to have food/drink at the desk or to be on our phones/read magazine/draw. The general manager expects us to just stand there.

A typical work day include answering phone. Management was good for the most part because you do not have anyone breathing down your neck and micro-managing you. The hardest part of the job would be dealing with angry customers about billing (which we have no control over) the most enjoyable part of the job is the clients that you get to know from working at the gym. Overall I would say the good out weighed the bad just not enough money to live.

Work long day starting at 5am-8pm, so it became old very fast. I love changing peoples lives and help others from being injured. Paid very poorly and felt that if I train the client I should get more comission rather than nothing.

If you know the managers or a favorite..you are not kept up to same standard. You can take off at last minute..use your cell phone during work hrs and not get reprimanded
If you are smart..mgrs will use you to do their work since they are incompetent at admin duties

I loved working at Fitworks; however, I was a teenager working to just make a paycheck. I was able to bring my daughter to work with me as I worked the reception desk along with the daycare. I opened and closed the Gym. I was given much respect and appreciation for my job ethnic and always rewarded for the work I put in.

There’s no Set track for advancement within the company if you are a trainer. They also take roughly 60% of the money paid by clients despite the fact that the trainers do virtually all of the work. They also tend not to give pay increases and have little to no benefits.
