Fitzsimmons Home Medical

I've been with Fitzsimmons for several years and I honestly love my job.  When I applied and interviewed, I had no idea what I was signing up for, but with the guidance of amazing supervisors and help from fellow employees, I caught on fast.  This company is great at promoting from within, as I've been promoted through 3 departments in just 3 years, as have many other talented employees.  The managers truly recognize hard workers and notice when an employee shows they're willing to go above and beyond.  If you show you're invested in the company, they'll be invested in you.

If I had to find something not great to say, it's that things can get stressful, like any job in the customer service field.  Also, the healthcare industry changes a lot, so we constantly have to stay up to date with different insurances.  Still, there's a lot of support from coworkers within each department, and with it being family-owned and operated, you know you're a part of a family that will not let any employee fall behind.

Working at Fitzsimmons Home Medical was a very difficult experience. Dispatching is poorly organized and there is little oversight from the dispatch manager. Drivers are sometimes sent out late at night for non-emergency deliveries even when they are expected back at work early the next morning. This creates unnecessary safety concerns and shows a lack of consideration for staff.

The sales and dispatch managers frequently speak to DME technicians and respiratory techs in a disrespectful manner which makes the environment very hostile. In addition the dispatch manager has asked employees to help with personal errands outside of work which is highly unprofessional.

There are also off-the-record group chats where conversations happen that would not be appropriate in front of HR or company leadership. The overall culture lacks accountability professionalism and basic respect for employees. I would not recommend this workplace to anyone seeking a supportive or fair environment.

Fitzsimmons is a family owned company that has a reputation built on the service the company provides to the patients. It is fast paced and the time flies by.   Owners are deeply involved in the company, and most of the staff, including  myself have been with the company for a long time. Benefits are comparable other DME's in the industry.  Health insurance is Blue Cross PPO. Pay is weekly. The hardest part is adjusting to the changes in the industry but all DMEs will have that.  Culture seems very tight knit and every one is accessible which allows for problems/issues to be solved faster. Management expects that staff provide a high level of service to patients/referrals even when busy. Management does not micromanage which is nice but sometimes coworkers take advantage of it and that becomes frustrating.  If you do your work you are rewarded with bonus' and salary increases. There is room for advancement considering it is a smaller company but there are opportunities especially since they are growing.

The management team that is put in place, never takes responsibility for issues that arise. That mentality is carried out through the various departments. The company has moved in a direction where it is more about the revenue than the patient. Its obvious  on so many levels that Fitzsimmons wants their employees to work more with less.
It is not uncommon for the RTs to work 12-14 hour days on a consecutive basis. Not good for balancing one’s home life especially if you’re a single parent, or your spouse travels for work a lot. The head of the company is under the impression that  working 12-14 hour days is what the RT’s signed up for. I’ve come to find that what was explained in the interview  does in no way represent what the actual position  is. Definitely looking at other options to get out of this unprofessional,toxic environment.

This company truly has good intentions but the culture is toxic and mgmt needs to move forward with the everchanging healthcare scene.  Many employees have been with this company for years and very antiquated in their processes.  The relationships to newcomers are fake and not to be trusted.  Too many closed door meetings, mgrs have gray areas in terms of what they should(n't) be involved in.  Bottom line, gossip is rampant and noone is to be trusted.  New ideas are not welcomed and work/life balance is nonexistent.  While this company focuses on patients, it's the revenue generated from them that is the priority.  Hence, long hours for field personnel, no excuses even if not 'on call'.  They burnout the employees then get upset when people leave.  If you dont have a personal life with responsibility, this is the place to be.

I have been with the company for over 20 years. I started in an entry level positions and have advanced through the company.  At first I thought it was a Job but it has been a Career in Healthcare. The medical industry is fast paced and could be challenging. The good thing is that you constantly learn and your able to help patients that are ill and depend on our service. Fitzsimmons is not like big box DMEs, they value the employees as they are the Face of the Company.  I have a really good work life balance and Management is supportive of me advancing in the company. The hardest part is the ever changing policies with the insurance companies. Fitzsimmons does move quickly to adjust to the environment and owners have an open door policy.  


Benefits include bonuses, a 401K match which is rare, PPO Health Insurance, HSA contribution and dental and vision.

Fitzsimmons Home Medical is a family owned fast growing company that still retains a small business feel throughout.  It is a very fast paced work environment and the nature of the business means everything is constantly changing.  However, management is a great to work with and as long as you are willing to learn and put in the effort you will catch on very quick.  Also, all coworkers are very friendly and a pleasure to work with.  Everyone is always working together to help one another out.  One very big plus is that management is also very flexible when the need or request for time off arises whether it be for emergencies or just needing time away.

Overall, not many companies are left that have the feel of a family environment and Fitzsimmons is definitely that.  Great coworkers and management plus the benefits provided make Fitzsimmons Home Medical a great company to work for.

Fitzsimmons' Bensenville branch is small enough that you can get to know everyone working there. Everyone is very friendly, and its a comfortable work environment. The job itself isn't easy, as workers are expected to handle both customer service and the rules of the health care industry. While this can be stressful, management is always available if help is needed.  Both the Manager and supervisor are approachable and friendly, and are very considerate when it comes to family emergencies. While the management isn't strict, rules are expected to be followed. If there are any problems they will always take the time to listen. This is a good job for anyone looking for engaging work and a small comfortable work environment.

Working at Fitzsimmons is a great opportunity if you enjoy working in the health care industry. Patient care is their number one priority. There is an enormous opportunity for growth and advancement here. It's possible to get hired for one position and to learn and accomplish so much that you can move up the ladder. 

Fitzsimmons is very fast paced and exciting.  Like in any other place of employment, hard work will pay off! The most enjoyable part of the job is working with the owners, management, and all my co workers who are all interested in learning and applying knowledge to an overall goal.  I would definitely recommend Fitzsimmons as an excellent place to work!

Fitzsimmons is a family owned company that really cares about their patients. There is a huge expectation to take care of the patient and sometimes that can be stressful with a lot going on. Patients and referral sources are upset and angry as insurance makes you jump through hoops for equipment. Management gets rid of drama quickly which helps those who are here to work.  Days fly by and the culture encourages teamwork. A lot of people have been with Fitzsimmons  a long time. They are expanding rapidly and they have a lot of new people. Fitzsimmons was accommodating with my leave of absence (Pregnancy) and actually threw me a party.  The staff are very thoughtful.
