During the interview they made it seem like it was a wonderful place to be employed at. For starters I had told them I had a second job and I would need to shift schedule as soon as possible, and my manager had given it to me literally Two weeks in from employment intentionally so that the other job wouldn’t continue to work with me because they were waiting on my schedule. So I lost another job that I was working because she didn’t give me the shift so I could never report. We were supposed to have Three days of training and only got two days of mediocre and I’m professional training. Not until I got on the floor and until I took a tour Of the dementia side that I was going to be working everything had unraveled. I literally was so weirded out about the staff that they had hired in there. And you know what they say you can tell the type of management it is by the quality of work or they hired. When I walked back into the facility there was tons of people yelling out for help and screaming.  Of the dementia side that I was going to be working everything had unraveled. It was very alarming and literally as I was going to the tour it just got worse and worse far as the unprofessionalism and the lack of actual care that these people were getting considering that they’re paying thousands and thousands of dollars a month to live here. They literally saved everything that you should know about a job until you got on the floor. And sugarcoated the interview and the training to make it seem like it was a loyal, Upbeat Place to work. Adding on to that they also had said that there is no shift differential so you get paid across the board no matter if you work morning, evening, or night and you as well do not get any of the benefits until after 90 days of employment. The benefits are terrible and way too expensive. And as well they literally had me working right after training and I told them I wouldn’t be able to work certain days and that they would have to work with me and they kept dismissing it and basically said if you call off it’s an occurrence. Soon as the training was done I got nothing but unprofessional unlawful disgusting management and being treated like a dog. I had asked them if the turnover rate was high during the interview and they lied and said that it wasn’t then when I got into the facility everybody was complaining on how they were shortstaffed and did not receive the proper care nor management. And again soon as I got into the door all the managers and executive directors turned a blind side to any questions that we had. It was so on organized and unprofessional that I question if this building and company should even be legally working. I’ve worked other care taking jobs before and this has by far been the worst and unprofessional experience And job management that I’ve ever received as well to majorly mention the pay is so little considering the fact that you are doing way more than just assisting living care. You are subject to possibly getting sick or catching stuff that the residents may have and you are getting paid like a dog Mind you if you call off There is a right off and you get in trouble for it no matter what if you got the flu or whatever. I read other reviews tonight after I had got a tour and I am literally seeing nothing but negative disgusting and unprofessional and similar reviews from my experience. So like others have said in the reviews I would definitely recommend.Not working here unless you have two as a last resort. They literally lie about every single thing and as well again as I said these people are not properly being taken care of and as it seems corporate is aware of that and they do nothing about it which I’d imagine that is very unlawful and not up to regulations including far as how these people are being treated. They had also told me that they take about one shower each week and if they want more they have to pay. We have to pay for everything all thing in there considering the fact that they are playing from $4000-$7000 a month to live there which is out rages considering the fact that they are getting treated unlawfully. I would literally write a whole essay on this if there was enough space but unfortunately there isn’t a point blank. If you do not have to work here please do not and seek other work it is not worth it nor is it worth to even put on your resume for a job experiences and from my view it seems as if it doesn’t matter what location the company is that they are all the same for his corporate management in the unprofessionalism.

There are good Five Star locations and bad ones. Whether it's a good or bad job will depend HEAVILY on what location you're applying to. Can't emphasize that enough. You very much have "nice" locations and "not nice" locations to work at. My only personal experience is for one of the "nice" ones.

My experience, there's definitely a lot worse jobs out there, but they didn't pay equal to competitors in our area and it can be hard to get approved for conversion to full time status (and therefore benefits), even if you're making the hours. Going full time is also dependent on whether or not they decide to call you full time, not whether you work "full time" hours, which is......yikes, so prepare to deal with that, if you start part time. They 100% do use "part time" workers working 40 hours a week as a way to save money. Pay does come with built in regular raises, but they're not large enough to make a huge difference, at least not in the short term.

Mine was one of the fancier locations so we got good people and good managers but we worked our butts off keeping it nice as the tradeoff. The company's been struggling (public information, google it) so there was a lot of budget pressure to keep hours down and not promote people, but managers will work with you if you're having trouble with the job. Advancement with the company involves waiting around for other positions to open up, which can be few and far between, but they have a strong tendency to hire from within whenever possible, so make sure they know you're looking and they might be able to work with you if something opens up. It's also very easy to get cross-trained to switch departments if that's something you want, people did it all the time. 

Overall, good job to have in the meantime if you're in training/school (many people were) for a more advanced field, or if you wanted to go from...say, waiter to maintenance and weren't qualified yet and wanted to use the company as a way to get cross-trained. Great people/managers you'll become friends with, too. But every once in a while you get thrown under the bus in the name of budget cuts, and I can't imagine staying there for 10, 20 years, although some people have definitely managed to, so your mileage may vary. 

I WOULD absolutely recommend them to a friend who was job searching, but I'd do it with a STRONG encouragement to go in as full time from the get go. I also don't think it would be possible to survive on most of the "entry level" type jobs if it was your only source of income.

A typical day at work- It's kind of hard for me describe a typical day at work as I still work here and I don't want to give myself away. So I won't be too obvious. On the 1st and 2nd shift you basicly  are answering their calls to assist them with their needs (toileting, getting to activities, dining area) on 1st shift we assist with getting dressed. Also on days we serve the meals, clean up after and we also have clean their rooms and take their trash. On the night shift we clean and listion out pages from the residence and answer them in a timly manner. On nightshift it's not as busy as daytime but then it's kind of unpredictable you never really know how your night will be some nights is busy and others is real low key. But your busiest time will be 5am and that will be when you have to get your people up and ready for their day. You have set number of people you have to get up and then along the way while your doing that you have people paging and you have answer their calls. So there is pros and cons to working all shifts
What I have learned- In the time I have been at Cameron Hall I have learned that in healthcare there are good and bad. There are some good workers that you will work with but there are also some not so good workers. I have also learned a lot about healthcare. I do have message though to people that are reading this I am someone that truly loves my job caring for the elderly. I love caring for my sweet little ladies but I also love caring the ones that a pain my neck lol. They all deserve to have someone that loves them and wants the best for them. They deserve someone with patience. If you do NOT have patience or have a love for helping people you do NOT need to be in this line of work. If you just simply want to make a buck then go to walmart we don't want here. These residence deserve better than that.
Coworkers- some are good and some are not but for the most part we all work togather as a team and get the job done.

The hardest part of the job is when your is not having enough people to work. Management will not give us more help and on top off while your working your rump off you don't get paid worth --- and oh yea the benefits are too expensive.

One more thing I have to say-
I love working at Cameron Hall but it has it's times where I wished I wasn't here some of my coworkers are bossy bossy and others complain too much. As far as the environment I work in it's filthy(us workers clean, clean, clean) but it's pointless because it's so filthy and unsanitary. I feel bad for the residence they deserve better for the money they pay to live there. The alzhiemers unit it's the worst I love working back there because I love the residents but the carpet is disgusting. And everytime you walk back there and open that door you get hit with a horrific oder. It's awful! 


  


Honestly I really miss the residents and my coworker.  Staff go beyomd their job duty to make that place safe, and families feeling secure with their love one in our care.  When I say Staff, it ment by care staffs and med tech.  The ED and HR think staffs are stupid to know that they both are related.  ED hired the HR which they claim the are best friends.  ED made the staff feel unconfortable to go to her when we have problems with our checks and benefits or hours.  Schedules changes due to their lagging on stay consistant.  I have worked their for a year and I have pushed the issues about my benefit my medical.  They always say "WE STILL WORKING ON IT".  Staff didnt get their checks in a months the new staffs.  Management always tried to hide any where to catch the staffs when they know we are short staffs.  Med tech having difficulty time passing meds due to short staffs..so med tech end up caregive and med tech at the same time, and the management knows that.  Management don't bother at all.  HR trained new RSDA on the cart.  She is not certified Nurse she just HR.  Alot of staffs quite or let go for no reasons and they are the best staff ever.  Management end up camping at their office, shower at the facility and wash their clothes in the facility.  Management lack of handling scheduling, lack of pays, low on pays, lagging on getting me and other staffs on medical.  Even though they claim they are best friends but still.ED will not listen to staff or fired HR because they are best friends.  Their office is a hot mess, lobby is a hot mess, foods have lag on flavor, kitchen greety with dish soaps and say wash it with hot water amd put in dishwasher to sanitize, staff have to take out the trash to the dumpsters when litteraly that is not staffs amd med tech jon.  Families consistantly complain about where her father sleep at, no housekeepers or their management clean the dad room.  The facilities/managements is under investigations.  ED worried about her loosing her job.  Of course she dont come out to help, but her and her best friend/hr like to do shaddy things.  Why hide behind the blinds, why hide side of hallways, why asking questions about something when she knows the answers, why HR walking in the cottage to make sure that we do what ED instruct us to do, why go through thr hassles of fired and letting go people or staff quit, but is not like they come out to help the staffs.  Why request a D/C medications from a DR cause you feel that they don't need it?  They think they know the residents like how care staffs knows them and their behavier.  Staffs gets hit so many times from same residents, and they brush it off and say "Did he really hit you?" or "He just want your attention"😡.  I can write a novel about the managements.  Staffs are awesomes, love the residents 

After hire, the company tried to change the terms of my offer letter. Immediate supervisor was a flat out mess, and so was her office. It was embarrassing that potential residents were in there for a sales pitch. Micromanagement is the spoken language here. You will have no autonomy. If you offer ideas and suggestions to improve, they will chip away at you until you finally give up and feel bad.

 Immediate supervisor never listened when employees spoke to her, or when potential residents and their families spoke to her. She was on auto-pilot. There is absolutely no teamwork or nurturing environment. If I were to assist someone in another department, I was admonished as a child and told to "stay in my lane." 

The Executive Director allows this supervisor to run people out of the job. My predecessor lasted a week and left for the exact same reasons. The person before her had been there a while but left also for the same reasons.The job had been open for many months because the supervisor kept blowing off great applicants. 

Never go in there and offer better ideas to do anything, you will get your head taken off. And be certain that you never attempt to use technology from this century. That is frowned upon. My last day on the job was 3 hours of verbal abuse. No one needs to put up with that. 

The Executive Director ignores any pleas for help with this supervisor, and she will soon let this person ruin the place. She is totally checked out, like her mind is elsewhere. The ED turns her head for whatever reason, is generally unpleasant, and nine times out of ten is disheveled and covered with dog hair. 

The person in charge of all the accounting has an office that is impassable. The office is literally piled floor to ceiling with files, boxes, and papers. It looks like a hoarder lives there. It is not getting any better, as a new administrator who was just hired had a poor record in the past, literally closing doors at previous facilities. Not a good outlook for The Forum.

 Don't believe regional managers who encourage you to contact them for assistance. Contacting them will bring down a world of hurt and earn you negative status. No one at the corporate level wants this place to succeed, and it is obvious by their abliIity to look the other way.

I was warned two weeks in by several members of the nursing staff and an outgoing maintenance administrator to run for my life. I wish I would have taken their advice.

Where to begin..... I was brought on as Business Office Manager. I came into an office with 2 years of backdated invoices and 2 years of back dated merit increases/staff review, and a business license that hasn’t been updated in almost 3 years. surprise surprise, This was never mentioned during interviews/offers. My first week I was thrown in the deep end, expected to perform all my functions with no systems training or overview of the office responsibilities. Not a great way to build trust with a new staff member. Both the regional director of operations and the regional HR manager where absolutely no help, whatsoever, in fact they made work harder on a regular basis. The regional HR manager made it a habit of locking herself in staff memebers offices, un announced, for long period of time, often disrupting regular business. she would be taking conference calls, often in the middle of regular staff meetings. She would visit our office once a month, yet the entire day was someone dedicated to conference call with other offices. It was rare to ever get a question in. She never once sat down to coach, touch base with me and that made her feelings about our office pretty clear. Her attitude was so incredibly unprofessional that I eventually just stoped going to her for any kind of help due to the fact that I left every conversation feeling disrespected. My phone calls would go un answered and so I eventually stoped caring about trying to fix any issues. The regional director of operations wouldn’t know how to work on the floor level operations if someone handed him a manual. He was constantly demanding things that where not real, he would make up processes in his head and expect the systems/staff to understand/compensate. When he didn’t get what he wanted he would resort to vaguely agressive/threatening language, a true sign of a leader! The rest of the admin staff where just as new so we were all trying to train each other. the ED was amazing at trying to help us any way she could, she was the only reason I didn’t walk out of that place and never look back. Over all the entire experience felt like the patients were running the asylum, I’m unsure of who has oversight of this company, but they could sure do with a good hard look,starting with Somerford Place Encinitas. Avoid this place at all costs.

Let me start by saying that I adored 95% of residents. The problems all stem from management at both local and corporate levels. 

Management is not held accountable, nor do they take responsibility for their own actions...or lack there of. A frequently heard statement is " well, that's not my job". Good employees are expected to pick up the slack of lazy employees and the good employees are forced to become burned out.  Managment does nothing to address the inequality.  

The executive director of the facility is blatantly keeping his head down trying to ride out his time u til retirement. 

The Director of nursing has never worked a cart and fires staff members who challenge her knowledge or authority.  She has little to no respect to those who know how to do their jobs, preferring more the lazy ones that she can manipulate.  

The therapy department is good but also managed poorly. The manager has no business managing people or dealing with patients and their families. Having limited abilities in dressing herself professionally or having professional conversations. She will never admit her own shortcomings or mistakes, and will instead place blame on anyone or anything. The therapy department only offers new grad pay rates, despite a clinicians experience in the field. This has greatly affected the depth of the department. Evaluating therapists have a productivity standard of 80% and assistants 85%. This would be fine if scheduling was cleaner ( rehab team lead responsibility) or if the rehab team leader advocated for the dept with nursing for patients to be available.  There is limited working rapport between the departments.  

Marketing will move anyone in to independent or assisted as long as they have the money. Despite how inappropriate they may be, based on cognitive and physical abilities.  Staff is frequently left, precariously in the middle when residents demonstrate limitations and are not independent. However the resident is living in the independent community.  

The director of assisted living also has limited ability, per executive director, to make decisions regarding admission of inappropriate residents.

As a server in the Five Star Premier Residences dining room you'll learn many basic skills such as time management and customer service. You'll interact with a variety of elderly folks and staff and build up experience that I believe you could take most anywhere. Unfortunately that's about all the good I can say. Not sure about their other locations, but the location I worked at had an incredibly high turnover rate. I cannot tell you how many staff members the dining room goes through. Many of the hires consist of high school and/or college students, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they did very often treat work as though it were a social gathering and would tend to screw off or be very loud during dining hours. Management was very poor at the location I worked at. Oftentimes managers would be nowhere in sight when a task required their immediate attention, in my case that'd be a resident choking on food and our department manager being the only CPR certified worker there. As far as the residents go they are primarily a friendly bunch. However we've had a few male residents who've groped female servers (touching thighs and facial cheeks) and in one case even strangle an activity worker. That particular resident saw no repercussions for his actions until he insulted another resident's family member, which got him evicted. That entire ordeal lead me to question how valued the staff really is.
As of the time I'm writing this review things at the location I was employed at have become worse. Employees are not receiving correct pay due to a change of employment in accounting and tensions among the residents are high due to COVID-19 precautions that they disagree with. Not to mention a rift has formed between the serving staff over the most childlike of arguments I have ever bore witness to. Suffice to say things are a mess. Can they get better? Of course. But in my four years there things have been on a constant downward spiral at the expense of staff and clientele.

I love my job and coworkers but management was greatly  lacking. If someone quits you have to do there job and yours as management doesn't care about you or the residents it may take two weeks up to several months for them to hire replacement for the person who quit. If you ask your boss for help to get something done because of a deadline all you get is a big nothing. He wouldn't help out on anything but was quick to ask you for a favor because he didn't schedule things correctly such as  Clean a apartment as people moving in that day and are not happy the place is a mess. To lazy to look at apartments a day before to make sure they were ready. To lazy to teach new maintenance person how to turn a apartment asked me to go into several uints and make a list. Come get me in middle of painting a apartment and ask me to finish a turn or clean he was to busy doing nothing to help but i am the one in trouble for not getting done what i was doing. I was actually pulled away from what i was doing to go to another apartment to wipe up some dust off a floor, of course didn't tell me why so i had to go back where i was working grab rag then go wipe up dust half hour wasted. Activities director asked everyone else to do most of her work and we were told to do it laziness among the managers was easily catching on. Seniors couldn't go to parades or other special events on weekends because the director just didn't care enough to hire a driver in a timely fashion  to replace the last one (nine months). Apartment flooded was uninhabitable  instead of puting senior up in a hotel we were told to move a chair and a few other things to a empty apartment for him to stay until his was fixed. Food always the same nothing special they paying all kinds of money to chef that doesn't cook any meals. Christmas time kitchen makes special meal but residents have to pay extar to eat that day.  I could keep going on and on but here's the bottom line run away  don't walk!!! AND FOR GODS SAKE IF YOU KNOW OR HAVE A SENIORS LOVED ONE IN YOUR FAMILY DO NOT LET THEM MOVE HERE.
