Loved the work but the people were toxic. Supervisors were more concerned with socializing and their popularity than anything else. Favoritism was quite apparent and bullying was a daily occurrence. I witnessed many employees being mistreated and disrespected by supervisors on a regular basis. Think high-school mean girls, gossiping and unnecessary drama..., that was the daily environment. It was emotionally taxing and unhealthy. Grown adults should not be conducting themselves in such a manner, but the entire office was riddled with this toxic behavior and culture. Uppermanagment was more than aware, acknowledging those who were constantly partaking in the described behavior, but failed to act in fixing anything. I have never in my adult life dealt with such shocking blatant mistreatment. 
I think the county offers decent benefits and paid time off, however the rate of pay was not the best considering the cost of living in this area.

Working for Frederick County Government has been a rewarding experience overall. The organization values community service and offers meaningful work that truly impacts the lives of residents. I’ve had the opportunity to grow professionally through new responsibilities and cross-department collaboration.

There’s a strong emphasis on teamwork, and many departments are supportive of professional development and training. Benefits are competitive, including health insurance and retirement plans, and the work-life balance is generally respected—especially for those with families or outside responsibilities.

That said, like any government entity, the pace of change can be slow due to policy and procedural layers. Advancement opportunities can also be limited depending on your department and role. However, if you’re mission-driven and looking for stability with a sense of purpose, Frederick County is a great place to work

It's not a terrible place to work but do your research.  If you are not from the area or not in "the club," it is difficult to get anyone to listen to you or to move up in the workforce. Termination and promotion practices need to be altered. Many employees are promoted to leadership positions without the proper leadership and management skills to match the skills required for the role, causing much of the workforce to be frustrated with leadership.  The biggest criticism, though, is how employees are treated when being terminated or asked to leave for no egregious reasons ( cutting positions).  Frederick County  fails when it comes to treating employees with integrity and respect.

The ARC of Frederick Country is a non-Profit organization that assists persons with developmental disabilities to obtain services in order to become as independent as possible and to enjoy quality of life within our community. I was an Intern, mainly working with art and design projects that included teaching and organizing an art class once a week that went over sculpture and painting. As well as designing a logo for each of the 5 shops opened at the new building and designing a brand for the “HI” campaign which was about creating a friendly. I learned a lot about atmosphere/relationship between individuals with disabilities and the community.

Management allowed you to work without micromanaging and allowed you to take initiative to create your own projects within the constraints of the county and their budget. They provided you with various opportunities to expand your skill set with a variety of different projects. On the other hand, they observed a skill you were good at and encouraged you to focus in on it and work on more projects involving those skills. It's a small workplace, which is nice because you get to know everyone on a more personal level. Everybody that worked there was just so nice and willing to help out wherever needed.

When I started working for Frederick County Workforce Services, I felt supported by staff and our customers. I was trained by a few co-workers and they were great. Then when I came up with a few new ideas that work for me. I also like helping our customers get ready by conducting practice interviews. That the best part of my job is to help our customers learn something new that will help them find employment.

The key to working at the county is being able to tolerate the overall purposelessness and culture of incompetence in the long run.   If you can do OK in this kind of environment, you will have a decent-paying job and good work-life balance.   Your quality of work has no bearing on your advancement, which is dependent solely on how long you're willing to hang around.

Bad management. Very disrespectful. Poor training. No communication between management to team lead and the employees. Management does not respect the employees, they bully them. You receive sick time but it is held against you if you need it and use it. To the point managment threats to termination you. Management does not support family emergencies, management states you are to be at work at "all times."  They do not appreciate employees, they are always short staff and hiring.

The book "The Five Dysfunctions of A Team was written by serving Frederick County DPW. There was an absence of trust, fear of conflict, lack of commitment, avoidance of accountability and inattention to results. Personalities were more important than being a effective and efficient organization. Senior leadership did no appreciate divergent opinions.

Frederick County has many great opportunitys and benefits for their employees. Tuition assistance and reimbursment, paid holidays, vacations and excellent medical and dental insurance. There are also ways to move latteral and vertically throught the county in many different fields. Uniforms are provided and they have a contractor pick up the dirty laundry once a week and have them cleaned for you.
