This company used to be a lot more enjoyable than its current state. Through the years the company has changed our internal systems to where it’s easy for them to monitor our every move reflected in statistics throughout the day, but it doesn’t reflect the actual needs of the customers. The amount of reports and repetitive call logs has us calling the same customers daily, even if they do not have any issues with their policies. We’re told to abruptly end a call with a customer if we’re not in the process of making a sale so that we can answer our inbound line in the hopes of a quote. 

When we come in, we need to set our phones to be open for incoming calls while we make calls required from different reports. We could have made contact with the customer the previous day and resolved any issues, but we need to call them again if they remain on the report. Throughout the day we need to balance incoming calls, making outbound calls, and handling in office customers. We cannot stay in a not ready status for more than 30 minutes at a time, even if the office is full of walk ins. We will make the in office customers wait and prioritize phone statistics over them. 

The amount of micromanaging and redundant tasks in this company has become unbearable. Many agents have already left and the morale and employee satisfaction has dropped amongst our different offices due to Handler changes. 

The hardest part of the job is dealing with the menial tasks that cut into our productivity time. But the reports and repetitive calls need to be made in order to not receive occurrences. It’s also a new practice to void our commission on any policy where an error was made, even when clear instructions have not been given on how to process certain tasks in this new management system 6 months in. Commission on renewals and ancillary products are withheld unless a threshold is met for new policies. Sales on renewals do not count for sales targets, which leads agents to sell new policies over renewals even if the cost is higher in order to meet the threshold to get our commission. Often times the quality control department employees are not on the same page and will flag errors that are non existent due to their lack of training, costing us our commission. 

The most enjoyable part of the job is the camaraderie within the office with the branch manager and other agents. It’s usually a fun environment to work in which makes the actual work tolerable. 



From a person who has loved every single job since a young age, Freeway has to be the worst place I have ever worked and the worst place for customers. Managers have zero training and are in competition with you. If you hit a certain number on policies, reviews, no DOI complains you can become a manager. Doesn't matter if you know how to be a manager, if you make the company money you because a higher position with bonus. An assist manager makes a bonus for maintaining a certain number of policies counts. As longest you are making someone money, Freeway does not care how you carry yourself or how you make the company look. As longest you show the District Manager numbers and when he is there show that you got the office down you get to keep your position and continue to get a bonus. Again for doing nothing. Management above them, District Manager is just as bad, there is no example of what management should be. The district manager can careless about you if you are not a top producer. The environment is hostile, unsanitary and beyond unprofessional. Whether it starts from the top down or down up not one person is professional and only think of different ways to make money by ripping people off. They invest so much money (they remind you everyday) on training. Showing you different ways to charge a $395 broker fee... doesn't sound bad right? However, they will charge the same customer the same amount every other month and say that they're current policy cancelled and because Freeway's particular customers don't investigate the situation they just believe in their broker. Policy may be pending cancellation and with making a payment customer is good, that is one of the many things they show you. Another will allow you to rescind your policy but nope your agent will convince you to get another policy and charge you $395 plus the carrier's amount to start the policy example, $140, a $25 documentation fee totaling in $590 to start the policy. Now if you don't have the full amount... for $15 more they will split the $590 into 2 payments but never disclose. The $15 split and the $25 documentation fee are always included so your totaling will be $605 so lets just say you can pay that in full than they don't remove the $15 because they never disclose it to begin with. Hardest part was to work for a company that had no integrity and the most enjoyable part was me leaving.

First you can make ok money at this company. If you are good at talking to people and have can persuade people. Also you must put revenue above all else. Most of your customers are considered high risk insurance customers. Since they policy’s don’t pay commission to the company if they cancel the company (freeway) off sets this by charging fees and selling additional products. There is a lot of pressure to sell the additional products since a lot of revenue is generated from this. Most of the time it is directly told to employees to add the products on every sale. This is the most important thing in most offices. 1 new business sales (sales) and 2 additional product revenue. All else falls short. If you do those 2 things you will make good money. If you feel like this is unethical or not for you don’t consider freeway or any Confie company’s. The day to work is a lot of calling, looking for people to quote. This in it self is easy. What gets hard is when systems don’t work.  Ie phones computers company sites ect. This is a frequent issue. This can be draining. The company will roll out new big company wide programs only to be dropped later. For the average employee this means you will need to train on them and then push them with customers. It can be tiresome. Management and co worker can be hit or miss. If you gel with your office that is great since the culture of the offices is very us vs them. Is vs another office. Is vs another district. Is vs another state ect. Working with customers and talking to different people is the best part of the job. How ever as a hole the customer is low priority Over new sales. The company also charges fees for every type of transaction this can be hard to get a customer to understand. As to Benifits health and dental,I think they are mid to low tier and very expensive.  They offer a company match on 401k and sick and pto. Over there are better places to work.

I was an insurance sales agent at Freeway Insurance  and it was a very negative experience. The commission rates were very low and insufficient, around 60¢ for most of the policies you sell, . The company monitored and dictated every aspect of my work, from the number of calls I had to make, to the products I had to sell. There was no work/life balance at all, Company wants you to work holidays, including Christmas Eve and Thanksgiving. The company showed no regard for me as an individual, only care about numbers . The company made vague threats on  job security, if you did not comply with every single thing they wanted you to do. The company requires you to sell additional sold through third party on top of car insurance policies (You can sell a hundred policies and they will scold you for not selling additional products) , such as roadside assistance, telemedicine, and tire hazard , which made it harder to sell policies and displeased the customers. The company claimed that they did not make commission off of policies they sold through other companies, but I doubt that. No matter how hard you worked, the company will be never satisfied with your production. There were agents and managers that had worked for the company for years and never received a raise or promotion. New agents don't earn PTO until one year after your start date. This company is dishonest and will sell you hopes and dreams . I do not recommend Freeway Insurance! This is a dead end job

Job Type: Full-time

You overcharge people to start their insurance policy ($395 broker fee) and are expected to pull every dollar out of them every single time. 

Client comes in to change address? Charge $100 
Remove a car? Charge $100 or rewrite them a new policy with a $200+ fee. 

Not all leads are distributed fairly, you can be in a slow office with low marketing spend, no walk in traffic, and expected to cold call 75+ people... and won't ever make the same as somebody else in an office with high walk in traffic and phone leads ringing ready to buy  nonstop.  

District managers will move around managers and agents and play favorites to who gets to be in which office. 

There can be new agents getting all the leads and preferred office because they're friends with somebody

Customers are always upset because everything is CHARGE CHARGE CHARGE, the service is terrible, and nobody wants to help them unless it means re-writing them a new policy.  

Agents won't do customer service for people they sell over the phone and send them to a walk in office to fix their mistakes. 

If you’re looking for a fast paced job where you are constantly busy then this is the job for you. This job offers you a pretty good pay minus the fact that you will ever receive a bonus or a recognition for your hard work which isn’t a big deal since the pay is pretty sweet. This place does provide you with a lot of leads to meet goals and generate new business and your own book of business. However like every company this job does have a few cons. No bonuses , unnecessary deductions on commission over minor errors , management issues , and favoritism. I worked for this company for 2+ years and didn’t have major inconveniences other than the District Manager of the Los Angeles area was a complete sexist , instigator , gossiper, and vengeful person. He had a group of managers/agents who he’d pick sides with mainly (his friends) if you weren’t a part of his group he was very demeaning and rude towards you and would purposely try to start drama between his agents for his own entertainment which made the work place hostile and overall a bad work experience. If this company would change who they have managing because he wasn’t the only manager who belittled agents and acted in a demeaning matter this would change the overall work experience to a much better one. If you’re just looking for a job with a good pay and don’t really care about being treated poorly by management and can see past the drama/ hostile environment then this might be the place for you. 

Typical day at work consists of following up on leads and making outbound calls when the office hours are at its slowest. We rotate walk-ins meaning that whenever a person comes in for a quote or to get insurance the next person on the list is chosen to assist them. List is based off the prior days performance (outbound call report; GI or the amount of policies you sold the prior day). Any appointments set by yourself are your appointments. If you are unavailable to help them because you are with another client then another broker assists them and splits the deal with you. What I have learned with this job is immense. I never had a sales job prior to becoming a broker, so the sky is the limit on what I continue to learn on any given day. There is a lot more attention to detail required in selling insurance. Any small mistake could mean you forgetting to endorse a person on a policy then that person gets into an accident. Very important deeds are relied upon by myself. My coworkers are extremely easy to coexist with. Best group of people I have ever worked with in a working environment. Which is key considering we all work in such a small office. The most enjoyable part of my job is the experience it creates for me. I feel this job is going to help benefit my future and give me that motivation and confidence to accomplish new tasks and work towards a career.

It's good for stability, and if you're tough-skinned and okay working with the public, it might be something to consider. They will bring on people without experience nor a license, and allow them to train while they complete the studying and testing process. 

The bread-and-butter for the company is Broker Fees, and they're not generally advised to be disclosed honestly. This requires some "magician work"--for example, $165 is the standard average broker fee that's expected of an agent. So if you're charging $200, and the real downpayment for the insurance company is $60, then you have to come up with a reason that $260 is their downpayment...driving record, location, whatever sounds convincing. And many of these people expected to pay $50...period. So you're playing lots of tug-o-war--either make the customer angry or make your manager angry.

There are (or were) three tiers for each two-week pay-period: if you're below the minimum sales to "hit commission," you're on minimum wage/subsidy (Tier 1), which is stigmatized. As long as you are at Tier 2, they'll leave you alone. Then Tier 3 is about twice the requirements of Tier 2...only a small percentage makes it consistently, and even so, it's not much more than $700/wk after taxes.  

And don't even think about going home after your 8-hour shift is up.
