Working at FBH presented some positives, particularly the comprehensive benefits package, which was appreciated. However, there were significant challenges that detracted from the overall experience.

The work environment often required long hours, and staff efforts seemed to go unrecognized and unsupported. Policies were rigid and nearly impossible to meet, creating unnecessary stress and leaving little flexibility in scheduling. Additionally, the handling of abusive callers was inadequate, leaving employees without the support they needed to navigate these difficult interactions. Concerns voiced by staff often went unheard, further compounding feelings of frustration and disconnection.

One of the most disheartening aspects was dealing with HR. Given that this is a behavioral health clinic, one would expect HR to approach concerns with compassion and understanding. Unfortunately, concerns were often dismissed, leaving employees feeling illegitimized and treated as just another number rather than as individuals facing real challenges. This lack of empathy was especially disappointing in an organization that should emphasize mental well-being.

On top of that, management was perceived as playing favorites, which only added to the inequity in the workplace. While the benefits were commendable, addressing these critical issues could transform FBH into a far more supportive and fulfilling workplace.

What is the best part of working at the company?
They have great benefits, wonderful training experiences, career advancement opportunities, and every staff member that works here is exceptional and full of integrity. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The caseloads are exceptionally high. Unfortunately everyone has their limits - on the days that any staff member (leadership or colleague) is struggling most, it will be difficult for them to show support or appear fully graceful. This field has a high burnout rate, working in community health it's even higher because we get the most extreme cases. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
I love my supervisor and she has made a huge effort to give us the tools we need to thrive, our location to feel united, and she also is easy to talk to. Making sure you get along with your supervisor is huge! 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Documentation, making phone calls, 7-10 clients per day (30-60 min. appointments), sending emails, coordinating with other staff members.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Met some cool people and learned some stuff. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Management being dictators and heavy handed discipline and corrective actions. I’ve been interrogated multiple times in a year. All supervisors are friends with management. So if you have a problem, good luck with that! If you offended anyone, they will complain to HR, the director, and supervisors to try to get you fired. This was the most stressful job I’ve ever had! 
10 out of 10 would not recommend it!

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
It’s a very clicky environment. The office can be very lonely because nobody talks to anybody.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Frontier expects your caseload to be 55 to 60 clients. Your productivity is required with a minimum of 55%. If you do not reach your 55%, then you’re written up and then fired.

My experience at Frontier Behavioral Health was disappointing in nearly every aspect. Work-life balance was poor, with expectations that often made it difficult to maintain personal well-being outside of work. Compensation and benefits did not feel competitive for the workload and responsibilities required.

Opportunities for advancement were limited, and job security often felt uncertain. Management lacked effective communication and support, which contributed to a challenging work environment. The overall workplace culture was negative, with low morale and little recognition for employee contributions.

Based on my experience, I would not recommend Frontier Behavioral Health as an employer.


I have worked at FBH for 4, going on 5 years. I have experienced a lot of change and growth during my time at Frontier Behavioral Health.  There are several different programs within FBH so the management and culture varies from department to department and sometimes you might be a better fit in one over another. Management is always looking to foster a positive workplace environment all while trying to balance person centered care, contractual obligations, and Washington State Laws. Typical day at work is centered around serving our clients in our various capacities, whether you are working directly with the client or you are supervising the staff that is, the goal is to ensure that the client is receiving the best possible care. The most enjoyable part of my job is being able to see the changes in growth within FBH, my department, the staff I work with and their clients. 

Overall, the PTO and coworkers are the best thing about being an MHCP at Frontier. No one gets paid well (besides the execs) and burnout rate is high. There are employees who are fully invested in keeping up the façade that FBH is a positive org and others who understand that FBH is an unethical corporation, nonprofit only in name so that they can utilize the state insurance of low income folks and get tax breaks. I thought non profit work was about helping people, but FBH has shown me how nonprofits operate just like corporations. They will slather you with a couple free meals per quarter, but they do not pay MHCPs nor therapists enough to survive in this economy. The best part of working at FBH was the coworkers and the lives we touched. I will never forget my clients who really tried their best with what little support they had. But the mental anguish that this job put me through had me running for the hills. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Getting to help the clients, watching the light come back on in their eyes. Helping others that suffer with this very powerful brain disease is what it is supposed to be about. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
There's zero consistency with the staff as the staff and coordinator changes very regularly. The company has their own church that now they've made it that's all the clients get exposed too. No other recovery options. Just them leading the ministry.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Confusing at best. Clients nor staff can ever be on the same page because nobody knows who's in charge or what the actual rules are for staff or clients. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Disturbing when it's so tiny and they had us overflowing with girls.

Frontier Behavioral Health was one of the most toxic places I have ever worked in. I enjoyed my role, but I felt the management blatantly lacked empathy, kindness, and boundaries with staff and fostered a workplace culture/attitude of "it is what it is." I did not feel heard or taken seriously by management when advocating for myself or for the concerns I had within the department; in turn, I feel this created an environment that was toxic, uncomfortable, and unhealthy to work in. One of the only positives was working with other caring, compassionate, like-minded individuals who understood the challenges of the work we did. I would never recommend anyone to work here.

I had great coworkers that were very supportive which helped in a very stressful job.

The company didn't seem to have any real respect for their employees and treating us like tools.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
If you avoided management it was great supportive fun and learnable. When management got involved it became chaotic gas lighting and unstable.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Get to work in a call center like setting answer phones until shift ended and go home. Long stretches of nothing sometimes lots of phone calls sometimes nothing but dead air.

Hated working for the company. Mission and vision are great however don’t align with how upper management conducts business. Nepotism is rampant throughout upper and middle management. People don’t speak up in fair of losing their jobs. Training is few and far between however management is quick to write-ups and document, document and document. Employees who disputes reasoning behind reprimands are told they can respond in writing however management keeps responds separate or not included them in files at all.
