Typical day was coming in and wondering which manager was trying to step all over supervisors and associates to get higher on the corporate ladder. then figuring out how to do your job with little to no money or manpower because corporate keeps cutting people and money for facility and maintenance. Don't forget that the hard working people there are rarely recognized for their contributions to the company. This City of Industry plant nor the corporation will ever be on the top 100 companies to work for because the upper management does not even follow their own creed and values. Forget working here if you are prior military because they have used and abused Veterans since i was there. almost all the Vets have been let go in a matter of months. you have to be part of the "cool kids club" to get anything done. there is also some collusion there considering the new operations manager who has little experience is in that position because his uncle is the CEO. This was a great learning experience for me after over 20 years as a nuclear engineer in the US Navy on how not to be a hard charger go getter highly motivated person because inevitably you will be a threat to the upper management and they will let you go and claim you did not meet the standards of performance per the company. everything is "At-will" even if you are an hourly employee... so no one is safe unless you are part of the good-ol-boy club there. there were many honest and genuine employees there, just not in the upper management. they were all backstabbing snakes in the grass.

The hardest part of my job was the odd hours working graveyard. Other than that the job was pretty straight forward. The night would start off heavy but if you kept up and hustled you were rewarded with smooth sailing the rest of the shift. My coworkers were personable and easy to get along with. The Management was on top of things and more proactive than reactive. I learned to use Oracle JDE XE and JD Edwards 9.3 ERP programs in addition do IBM AS400. I enjoyed that I got to work 4 days on and 3 days off. The consistent schedule allowed me to have an okay work life balance but the work load could sometimes be excessive when at work. 

Management is mostly about numbers here and I get the impression they do not really care for you. They do not live by their company creed and values. They really does try to squeeze every bit out of you and discourages over time. If you work here prepare to hustle because it is sink or swim. No formal training and you are forced to learn on your own. Must be an independent self starter because you are forced to learn on your own majority of the time and if you make mistakes you are easily written up for it. Lastly, if the work load is heavy you often take a late lunch and sometimes not at all. The company was great when I started but has gone down hill recently.

Work hard for a competitive wage.  Wages, benefits are good.  If you want a job and willing to work hard, you can make a good living here.  High standards for customer service, efficiency, production, safety, teamwork.  If you need to make money, you will do that here.  Whether a driver or warehouse worker/selector, you will always have work.  Learn your job, stick with it and gradually your job gets easier and more routine.  You can learn how to work smart.  Fellow employees are willing to help you and share tips on how to improve your performance.  Take the time, as with any job and get used to the routine.  Warehouse selectors will gain experience using pallet jacks and selecting food and restaurant supplies while building pallets to be shipped on trucks.  Drivers utilize pallet jacks to deliver to restaurants on mostly one day routes.  Refrigerated trailers with liftgates, to lower pallets to the ground and deliver to the store.  A mix of manual and electric pallet jacks are used on the trucks.  Safe, timely deliveries, while you work with store employees to deliver frozen, refrigerated and dry products to the proper delivery area.  Whether driver or warehouse, you can earn a good wage and if nothing else, get experience for yourself and learn good work habits.  

Work life balance is trash, they make it seem like a good job, but when you get into it you understand the chaos. Management is horrendous. No one leads by example, hiding important issues when corporate comes, machine never maintained, blaming operators for the machines that weren't maintained as to why product comes out bad. People always saying I've been here since day one, but I can't seem to fix a single machine. Again pay is decent, but with all the extra stuff you're doing constantly and having to do everyone's job and be a team player it's unrealistic which is why moral is way beyond recovery. Voicing your concerns with the company does nothing, but revolve in everyone's mouth with no fixes or solutions. One of the most uncaring companies I've ever worked for when it comes to there employees. 12 hour shift 5-7 days per week. Expect people not to show up, and expect to stay later than your shift hours. Oh and wasting employees times with child like meetings that have no point, but for the same people to say the same thing in there own way. Like last min change of plans come work for Golden State Foods. Do yourself a favor and don't. Unless money is really more worth your life, health, family, obligations.

I guess a typical day is fast pace production,you zone in on the task 
at hand and take care of business,and you are always grateful for the 
little down time when some production part break for an hour or so.
What i learned is that management and co workers are a lot like the high school teachers we had in high school,you have your favorite and your not so favorite.I also surprised myself sometimes at formulating a batch of beef where it hit the nail on the head for as being dead on the target.The hard part sometimes,is getting a professional team effort at getting the job at hand done.The most enjoyable parts are the moments of simpatico,the grinding room is a well oiled machine, everything is falling into place.I love to make up games to match a physical task by making it easier and  then your co-worker who work in QA or QC come and tell you the product is  coming out great for the hamburger patty production.I believe it's all
about your work mindset,your positive energy.

Been here 20 plus years, this is a good job with decent pay and great benefits. Health insurance is no cost for you and your family and the pension is funded by the company. There is s 401k if you want to contribute more with no match since the pension is so generous. The equipment is fairly new and most drivers take care of the trucks and trailers. We do have demanding customers ( McDonald's and Chipotles) and so we are a 24/7 operation and work 365 days s year. You will work alot of hours and holidays and weekends, but are well paid for it. Cons: Management could be better and drivers more recognized, if you do your job and are a team player you will have no problems. If you want to complain about the hours and schedule stay where 
you are, it takes many years for a good schedule and even then you need to be flexible. I never have had a job where everything was perfect, this job has been very good to myself and my family and guess what yes we had to make sacrifices. Good luck in your search. If your not a crybaby, apply we need you. If not stay away.

I was transferred from an out of state location.  Forced to enter into a probation period.  Was let go for no reason 1 day before my Union protections kicked in. I was promised a route and full time hours upon my transfer, I received no route and no guaranteed hours.  You get cut off in Seattle traffic and hit your brakes hard and they write you up for it.  The manager of the transportation department was a joke.  If you questioned him about anything he said or was supposed to be responsible to handle in a timely manner then he’d get all defensive.  The supervisors and fellow drivers were awesome.  I was also let go without the HRs knowledge which they had to investigate because they had received no complaints or issues about my work, intact I had been released from their training over two weeks early because I was more than capable. Remove the horrible transportation manager and the Sumner location would be a great place to work, I personally thought I had found my retirement location.

My first few weeks at GSF have been stellar. The management team has been very welcoming and they’ve treated me like an asset. The hours are pretty flexible for my position specifically (EHS Manager) so I am able to be comfortable with my work schedule. My typical day is engaging with associates on safe behaviors and practices and working with management on how to improve safety practices and policy throughout the site. The workplace culture is great, everyone treats each other like family. Family that cares about one another but holds each other accountable. Hardest part of the job is looking for a sense of direction at times. When there’s so much to do, it’s hard to see through the storm and what needs to be priority. The best part of the job is definitely the people and how we engage with one another. I would recommend this job to anyone who’s willing to work hard, get paid well, and is committed to setting and accomplishing goals.

Start the day reviewing hours of service, then confirming and DOT violations from the previous day. Next, scheduling the extra board drivers for the up and coming day.  I learned to think ahead because the unknown will always come and get you.  I have think about any gaps in dispatches and who is off and may have HOS (hours of service). Business demands never stops and we have to be ready to meet  those demands.

The hardest part of the job is preparing for the unknown.  Typical day-to-day operations is fairly predictable,so you have to have your checklist of items to do and be ready go when it happens.  It will happen.

When things are done right, that is enjoyable to me. I can see how the decision I make have an impact on what goes on within a typical day or even for the week. When you can hit all your daily KPI's while meeting the needs of our customer is an enjoyable day, week, or month.

My direct manager and a few others are amazing. Supportive, clear and open communicators, collaborative.... However, there are still others leading the management team and at the corporate level who's actions don't align with what they say. Employees have to take ownership of and find their own work life balance. Doing the right thing and advocating the right thing can at time seem like an uphill battle. There is definitely investment into the employees though. There is generally speaking opportunities for outside training seminars, etc. to help ensure employee growth. There is also a recent charge to upgrade everything to new technology. Overall this is great, but the approach is to change everything at once, which is not great. The place has some pros, but definitely some areas where they need to improve.
