GT Independence

Pay is ok and the benefits make people stay far longer than their blood pressure wants them to. The training is so scattered that even after months people don't feel confident in their abilities (and they shouldn't because it takes a good 6 months to get the job down because of the scattered training). They have unrealistically high expectations of the amount of work that can be done in 8 hours. If you ever go above and beyond they expect it every time. The people are the only reason I stayed as long as I did. 

Pros:Healthcare, dental and vision, 401k, tuition reimbursement, gym reimbursement, PTO, bonuses, 8 hours paid community volunteer time, remote

Cons: More work expected of every person than should be reasonably expected of 2, infighting, team leaders promoted without having knowledge of the tasks required of those under them, unrealistic expectations of deadlines, surprise 12-14 hour shift every pay run, training is atrocious and makes it take longer to learn your actual duties, team leaders are unresponsive or very hard to get ahold of, Operations Managers are out of touch with what it takes to meet deadlines, require OT but also complain when we do OT, holiday season is extra busy and any days off just mean squeezing the work in fewer days so more stress, turnover rate for CSAs is crazy high, payroll turnover is also not great, changing teams and assignments when you are well settled in your tasks, being volen-told to change states you work with (essentially the same tasks but different people with some different rules), pay doesn't go up with inflation, bonuses have gotten ridiculously small, new CEO Holly is out of touch, they took on states they didn't have the employees to deal with so are making other states do a ton more work.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Helping the employees, clients, and representatives with whatever issue(s) they may have and investigating why they are calling in to resolve the issue(s).

What is the most stressful part about working for the company?
Not getting an answer right away from the team leaders or any of the team leaders. Sometimes you will wait over 20 minutes for anyone to answer your question while you have the customer on the line.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
In the office it is very close like friends and you can help each other even if you work in different states. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Make sure to be logged in at 8 to be ready to take calls from clients, employees or representatives. You will email case managers and use Teams to stay in touch with your teammates along with Genesys and answer two separate email inboxes along with working within the digital filing system. Make sure to see the message "Clear" before being able to go home. 

You are stuck on phone calls with irate individuals because their pay was messed up, if they got paid at all. You have no choice but to be thrown on calls for states you know nothing about, and if you complain, you get into trouble with the team leads. If you try to help your coworker(s) when they have questions, you will get into trouble for trying to help them when they should go to their team leader and they have and did not get an answer or half an answer. 

It is not worth the time and effort to work for this place for $15 an hour. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
I'm a living caregiver. GTI is always friendly and has always answered my needs. My tasks here often are more hours than what has been approved. Caring for someone and all their needs is hard work but seeing that smiles and relief that you are there is such an amazing gift. GTI pays on time and if there are questions they reach out. Refreshing, I would recommend GTI for both caregiver and Person in need of special care. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Trying to get more hours for the Client when their need is greater than what has been originally approved. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
You work onsite if the person you are caring for. I have not been to a GTI office. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
For me, it's allowing independence to the individual as much as can be safely performed. Checking each step through out each task insuring all needs and proscribed care is met.  Going to appointments, shopping, errands, routine days at home I'm there. A companion, a cook, house keeper, med. Reminder, a listener as stories are shared, assisting, with compassion. Often as we loose independence,  we be come a bit angry, it's a difficult and hard realization, even scary, making our moods less polite.  GTI caregivers are screened and Both parties receive communications to see how things are going. GTI and the program director from the agency assigned, are always there for questions, concerns and just general communication. GTI ensures all parties feel heard and respected.

for a local company i had high hopes with the position, orientation/training was 4 weeks and another 1-2 weeks of training with your district your placed in, you don't really learn all requirements in training and basically learn as you go once you get to that 6 week mark or so, there is a lot of division internally and all the districts work differently, the DC district only allows 30 minute lunches to the customer service associates, where the support brokers and rest of the company and districts took 1 hr lunches, this also mean that you receive 30 minutes of overtime everyday, its unlikely to get a 15 minute break as  there is a high call volume in this district and a lot of paperwork issues which causes majority of calls to be angry and escalated. i will say i had a few amazing co workers and a great team lead but when you are asked to do more training and require you to work past 5 pm is unfair as this was a requirement from management. i cannot speak for the company as a whole but i will say that during the time in office there was a lot of broken equipment and desk that were broken and several mouse or keyboards that didn't work, you have to book a desk everyday and can only book 1 day at a time, which make things a hassle if you get a different desk and unfamiliar with its set up,  the companies turn over rate is exponentially high for a company of its size, which is alarming on its own.

I've worked here for almost six years, and from the start I had issues getting paid. This was, in fact still the case even after they hired a new CEO. Things have gotten better, but trying to get any information on pay raises, who to talk to for issues regarding lack of communication when something involving pay goes wrong, frequently only being notified of things only AFTER they go wrong ect. Most of the care team are lovely, genuinely good people, most are nurses, therapists, and or family members of patients, it's a shame none of us are paid anywhere NEAR enough for the work we do. 10/hour starting and current max is 13.50, which due to inflation/pandemic isn't enough at all. You do get paid vacation if you take your patient with you (CAP Choice program) and you get paid sick leave which is nice. Case managers will go out of their way to talk to the employee and the patient in order to get to know them and at least try to inform them of changes when they know them, unfortunately most are left in the dark as much as the rest of us. Work place culture varies from state to state. Our head office is in Sturgis, Michigain but my local office about 30 minutes away from my house in NC.

The people I worked with were great. If I could give the company itself a rating it'd be zero. July 2022, when interviewed I was told I would receive a raise at 90 days. At 90 days, I was told I had to cross train and take a test that was not even available. 9 months after I still had not got my raise. I put in my two weeks. Worked my two weeks. I did as much as I could to make sure my team was in a good place before my last day. I lost my grandfather during this time and still did everything I could to help. Just to not receive my bonus that I worked for because I was no longer an active employee though my last day was 3 days before. I was an active employee for the time the bonus was for though. I personally know others that had received their bonus after quitting. I loved my job and helping people I cried leaving my team. Then for my bonus to be taken was a slap in the face. The things they state they value so much and they cannot even keep their word. For a company that requires you to respond to emails and voice-mail in 24 hours they sure don't respond to their own employees that fast, if they respond. I have sent several emails to several different people over the last year and have not received a email back. Standards and values should be consistent through the whole company.

I am on the "queue" which is our phone system 6-7 of the 8 hour day. I answer questions regarding simple to complex pay inquiries, issues, or concerns. I mail items out necessary that are requested by employees or employers. I answer emails within 24 hours. I review time sheets and call if there are issues and we need it resubmitted or contact case managers or the appropriate department to solve budget issues.

I have co-workers who make the job fun and they work as a family and a team. There is a sense of "we are all in this together" in the state departments I have worked in. 

The hardest part of the job is knowing you have to tell someone they are not going to get paid. The dynamic we work with usually consists of those who are already low income and depend on their checks to live. Most of the time they blame you regardless of who's fault it is.

The most enjoyable part of the job is telling people we can help them get paid on time. When employers or employees call in to thank us for helping them be able to operate and hire those they know care for their loved ones. Basically, knowing that I have helped someone every day on the job.

The idea behind the company is wonderful however you will be worked hard with little to no respect or appreciation from management. Quarterly bonuses are nice but if you desire to be acknowledged for your hard work in any other way that will not happen. Management/Executive team has grown significantly in the last 18 months and it shows, not in productivity or efficiency but in hierarchy. GT’s motto is “Your life, your choice” which if they did believe that for their employees would be great but if you work for GT Independence be prepared to be expected to not believe anything other than what GT allows you to believe unless you are in private at home. Do not expect that they will treat everyone fairly because their inclusive lifestyle does not include religion. Spending at this company is outrageous and ridiculous but don’t expect them to limit their ridiculous spending to trickle some to their workers. You will get a $30 a month stipend for working at home but will get laughed at if asking for that to be more considering how much internet and electricity costs. Good luck if you work at GT, and watch your back...you can’t trust anyone.

I was off and on about posting a review but I feel that this needed to be said. I enjoyed my time of two months with GT as I needed my foot in the door but when it came to flexibility the company lacks. I have family within other departments of GT which I seen how well GT was a company, I was placed as a CSR position in California with me living in NC/ SC border with 11 am to 8pm EST hours, I was okay with this as the opportunity was open but then when it came to my personal struggles of daycare dropping my son and my daughters needs I expressed this strongly with the whole company including a Conselor. I had interviews to transfer within the company and no one took me as a transfer which I accepted and had patience. I feel as if I expressed my needs as a employee but they weren’t met and the more I expressed the further they got from helping me in my personal life and work. Not soon after I was terminated and told it was “final” and I could try again later. This is very frustrating as I have now applied for the past three months for another position as I know they can’t help personal problems but I have not heard back on emails. If you have kids at home and need flexibility I’m not to sure GT is for you.
