GTE Financial

GTE is an amazing place to work. Everyone is really nice and the culture is unbeatable. They genuinely care about one another and look forward to helping their members each and every day. A typical day at work is basically what you make of it. If you are a strong and hard worker you will need very minimal supervision and the day will fly by quickly. There are a lot of characters around to make the day enjoyable as well.

The most difficult part of the job is knowing that there is not very much room for moving up in the company. Everyone loves what they do and it takes awhile for a preferred position to open. There is plenty of room to grow and learn, however unless you are willing to wait you may not get the position you want.

I really enjoy the monthly birthday celebrations, the basket ball court, ping pong table, and full gymnasium that they provide. You really can have a very enjoyable day at work and stay healthy while doing it. Ultimately, I believe GTE taught me to be a better person and deeply care for the well being and financial security of our members and will always have an amazing spot in my heart.

	Responsible for cash management of Community Financial Center funds while assuring security of funds, maintains vault supply of negotiable items; balances Community Financial Center GL’s; prepares/maintains Community Financial Center logs and reports to various departments/agencies; prepares Community Financial Center daily deposits; maintains and balances MRA cash dispensers and coin machines.
	Ensured all MRA staff is knowledgeable and are following established procedures set forth in the Internal Control and MRA Supervisor Manuals and able to identify fraudulent activity to prevent losses. 
	Train, monitor and coach MRA staff to effectively sell/refer products and services to members while ensuring quality service standards are being maintained. 
	Work in coordination with the Community Financial Center Manager to ensure the Community Financial Center is supportive of the credit union’s philosophy, strategic plan, and goals.
	Prepares and delivers annual evaluations for all MRA staff. 
	Observe Credit Union guidelines, policies, and procedures in order to adhere to compliance regulations, and security standards.

GTE gave back to the community dearly, had frequent employee events driven to give back to their staff. Though communication, management and morals seem to lack when  it comes to treating employees right & working well to accommodate for more through needs in the workplace. 

Unrealistic expectations & irregular approaches seem to be frequent when it comes to attempting to meet said "goals", while not providing much support in how to actually achieve said goals and proceed to respond with generic corporate feedback. Though the remote capabilities gave the job a enjoyable atmosphere though did feel empty compared to in-office positions. 

Overall enjoyed the workplace culture events, benefits & volunteering opportunities though the management definitely is split between corporate standards and providing a peer-peer support method as seems you pick straws on if your direct leadership will treat you like a person instead of another seat to fill.

GTE Financial is all about the members' experience.  That would be excellent if they actually followed through and delivered, but as it is, the loan processors can't seem to meet even the most generous timelines and members suffer the consequences.  All but the most senior management is incompetent and the highest levels are toothless.

Nobody ever gets fired, but there's plenty of turnover due to those smart enough to leave.  Promotions from within are based on popularity rather than ability and the most knowledgeable and senior employees get passed by time and time again.

At the end of the day, though, it is a job that pays decently for the work expected.  It's a credit union, so benefits are really good and we enjoy lots of discounts on a wide variety of services and events.  And, at the end of the day, everyone leaves to go home at 5pm.  Everyone except those poor fools who have been in the same entry-level positions for 20 years.

Working at GTE Financial a typical day included a vast amount of customer interaction, with a lot of cash handling involved. I learned a lot when it comes to the financial world and the benefits of being part of a creidt union as opposed to a bank. I also learned the importance of managing finances and how to help others with their finances. My team members at GTE were very diverse in cultures and attitudes, we worked well together and always got the job done. We always had the same point of view which was always taking care of our members to our best ability. The hardest part of my job I would have to say would be the selling pitch. Im not a person that likes sales nor prefers it. In GTE we had a main focus and that was SELL SELL SELL. Selling is not something Im comfortable doing but we had to meet a quota. The most enjoyable part of my job at GTE was the customer service experience that I was able to provide on a very day to day constant basis. Helping others is my passion and I have exceptional customer service skills.

Unlike a bank, credit unions care about the community, members (customers), and employees. GTE does a lot to give back to the community and the employees. They are also BIG on great pay and amazing benefits! Every FT employee gets 4 weeks PTO first year, plus 10 paid holidays! Heeeeeyyyyyy!!
Small company feel with 500 employees so you have to be engaged because people really notice you if you aren’t. Business Casual business dress and environment, plus we get to wear jeans everyday if we $$ money to charity! If you want the BIG CORPORATE culture then this isn’t a good fit. GTE  is a place where you can make a difference but it’s not a place where you will be climbing the corporate ladder, and taking over the world. If you want work/family balance, room for growth and to learn, plus a chill vibe, with great pay, in Tampa Bay, then GTE is great!

On the outside it may seem like a fully functional, engaging environment that supports employees and its members.  But its an illusion, that clings to decades of built institutional elements that give the impression of value.  

The CEO is a snake.  Be warned he smiles to your face yet literally cuts you to pieces from behind.  He has left a trail of decay as his ambition has literally destroyed anyone or anything in his way to power as he weaseled his way into his current role.  Its sad to see the board is glitzed by the sparkle of regular free luxury trips and regular perks, when they fail to ask even the most basic of accountability questions.

Be warned, if you expect to grow in this environment, you better be on the "inner circle," because that may be the only way to advance or survive.

This company definitely has a mix of strengths and weaknesses.  They do a good job offering work/life balance.  It was rare to work more than 40/hrs per week with a decent amount of PTO.  However, I never felt like there was any job security at this company.  Individuals seem to fall out of favor with management for unknown reasons.  Some of the departments certainly lag their peers in terms of technical acumen.  That means there is opportunity to improve a business unit but it can be difficult to pull the institution forward.  Management was willing to fund training which was nice, but often disagreements among management led to initiatives falling apart.

The upper management at GTE Financial doesn't seem to know what they want to be. They force members to use unforgiving machines instead of tellers, before successfully rolling out enhanced mobile options. Their virtual platforms are intuitive to the average members. Despite the investment in technology their front line staff expectations have been growing, their positions are more difficult than ever with additional tasks but the organization continues to shrink the force. and with turn over each center is almost perpetually understaffed. even when full staffed they are poorly trained.

For a credit union of their membership number they are considerably understaffed. And while the membership number is growing the average deposit shrinks as members look elsewhere for service.

Holidays off. Benefits. Training lots off it to empower you in you line of duty.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Long hours. Too much required. Loan officers, gather all information and be the closer, review and open accounts and close them,do everything. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Everyone local. You have fun with staff. Personally get to know Dm, personel department. Open door policies 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You stay business constantly from the time you walk til the time you leave. Keep your day full of appointments, follow ups, calling leads, covering walk in at door, etc.
