Gateway Community Service Board

Gateway is a not for profit fee for service program, therefore employees are overworked and under appreciated due to this financial necessity. Not uncommon to do the work of 3 full time positions, if  employees took time off the consumer did not get care. There is a lot of favoritism there, if you are not in the CEO vision, you will be overlooked for opportunities for advancement. If you do your job too well, you will not advance. Very disheartening and discouraging. They do a good job taking care of consumers but do not value the employees carrying the burden of care.

It's community mental health, which is rewarding but challenging. High turnover for clinical roles left clients feeling cynical. Compensation was lacking. Billable hours seem to be the top priority most often. Management was usually understanding. Coworkers were a joy to work with (mostly). Administrative support was nonexistent. Never saw an opportunity for advancement. Job culture was usually fine, but there was drama at times. Good place to gain experience as a beginner therapist.

Anyone decent who is hired quickly leaves. CEO insists that all agree with him - if your opinion differs - you will be ostracized. 
Policy changes daily - just wait a moment if a policy is in place you don't like - it will change soon enough. VERY low pay - can't keep qualified staff. NO ability to move up - promotions all done secretly from within by CEO.



I have worked in different capacities in Gateway and have found that Gateway is NOW all about helping the employees work somewhere that benefits the employee and Gateway.  They are now more focused on the employee and client not the bottom dollar.

The management at Lakeside Crisis stabilization unit in Bloomingdale is horrible!! No one there communicates well with others and the ratio when I was there 1/10. This place is very understaffed and it should be shut down!!  Its a very hostile environment to work in.

It varies from position to position.  I had too many zoom meetings through out the day and were given expectations to start on the unit.  It was impossible to develop a plan and implement it because of all the meetings and the length of them.

Gateway was the most interesting facility I worked at in that it had various offices providing a variety of services and you were spread among these offices depending on the days of the week.

Highly productive and enjoyable employment that allowed me to make positive contributions to the lives of others. The hardest part of the job was the amount of driving required. The most enjoyable part of the job was constant interaction with clients.

I love working with our clients at Gateway. So many of them really want help and counseling. I have a great team and that makes it really fun. We all care about our clients, it is special.

I absoluetly love working for Lakeside (childrens crisis center). I am an LPN and sure there are challenging days, but the good days outweigh the bad ones. The biggest struggle is staffing but thats the nursing world in most places.
