Generations at Elmwood Park is an acute  long term care facility.  The populations of both residents and staff is very diverse which lends to a wonderful learning cultural  experience.
Many of the residents who are admitted to the facility are acutely ill. All  residents  and their families need the empathy and support of all staff on all levels.
As assistant administrator I helped oversee the operations of the facility under the direction of the administrator.  
A typical day at work for me was working with the residents and families in verifying  insurance benefits getting facility contracts signed,, Medicaid applications,  assisting with social security benefits, setting up payment plans if necessary; working with the State Medicaid office for income changes. Medicaid  applications;  working with the local Social Security office to assist with disability applications, benefit information, address change updates.
I worked closely with Hospice companies to provide accurate billing information for reimbursement.
As the accounts receivable director, I was responsible for all incoming monies to be deposited and recorded appropriately.
The resident Trust Fund was under my tutelage. The monthly Social Security checks were deposited  and recorded for each resident.  Weekly disbursements were made too the residents. 
I oversaw the billing for all private and contracted VA residents.
As assistant administrator I provided orientation for new employees and did in-servicing on an on-going basis. 
The most enjoyable part of my job was seeing that residents were cared for in a professional manner and treated with respect. That families were made to feel welcome and treated with respect.  That all staff were treated with respect and acknowledged for their hard work.
The hardest part of the my job was hearing a resident had passed away.  All residents in a nursing home become part of our "home" family and are missed.
The management team always had your back.  One could not ask for more than that.

Decent place to work. Unfortunatley they offered sign on bonus and refused to pay them.  I enjoyed the people I worked with and my residents. There is no direction and you care for minimal 20-30 residents. The nursing assistants don't want to work together and refuse to do their work.  The assignments are the hardest and worse I have came across for nurses. Good pay but not worth the risk. Management doesn't have a clue. Your checks are short and you can tell them all you want. Could be good starting place but you will risk your license.  Get everything in writing because they will back out of anything the promised if they can.  The pay was good, but all the facilities in illinois are paying the same. Don't let the dollar fool you. You are left on a floor with no help and drowning. You feel like your licesence is on the line. State in the building all the time. They don't post management job openings and they hire their friends.  If your not one of their buddies you won't last. The residents are the one thing I loved. 

I can only speak for office staff, not nursing. There's nothing really "special" about Generations. None of the kind of stuff that more modern companies use to draw you in like ping pong tables and weekly group outings. As long as you do your job and work well with your co-workers, you'll do fine. But that's about as far as you'll get. There's not as much communication - no daily stand-up meetings, collaboration is completely up to you. People are nice enough. After a few years, you'll probably get bored. Your job will be relatively secure unless they really, really want you gone.

Avoid if you're not comfortable around the mentally ill or those who need skilled nursing care. If you're a consultant, you'll be visiting nursing homes and mental health facilities. "Incidents" are very very rare, but it can get very, very uncomfortable very fast. It comes with the job.

I read the reviews and it doesn't seem like the place I'm working at. (It could be that I work at Corporate).  There are new acquisitions, so transition takes time. A lot of changes and adjustments employees need to go through. There is a large turn around because people come with certain expectations. And they don't do the required work. Good employees do stay for many years. You have to realize these are nursing homes and it will be challenging and stressful on certain days. 
They have 21 locations all across the state of Illinois and 1 location in Indiana. Some of the locations are more stabilized than others. But overall, upper management try their best for the Residents and the Employees. You will never make over 2,500 employees happy all the time.

Immediately they were asking if I could do 13 and half hour shifts and then even when I would be trying to rest on my day off,  our supervisor would be calling me non stop if I could work that day or cover someone else. Some of staff was okay, but the nurses were absolutely some of the worst people I met, not all of them, but some of these ladies and men would go out of their way to gossip about me and make sure I heard it. They then started just making fun of my scrubs WHILE I’M WORKING, I never said a word to these people and without a doubt its like they would check to see if I’m working to give me h*ll. I’m not saying this for myself, but no one deserves to treated like that, there was nothing keeping me here besides some of the sweet old people we were caring for. If the nurses want to keep treating people like that, they’re always going to be short staffed. 

I truly love working here and feel incredibly grateful to be part of such a supportive and inspiring team. The work environment is positive and encouraging, which makes it easy to stay motivated and give my best each day. I’ve had the opportunity to grow both professionally and personally, and I genuinely enjoy the work I do. The leadership is supportive, and my colleagues are dedicated and passionate, which creates a strong sense of community and teamwork. I feel valued and respected, and I appreciate the opportunities for growth and development that the company offers. Because of all these factors, I’m not only happy in my current role, but I’m also excited about what the future holds. I see myself continuing to grow with this company and being a part of its ongoing success for many years to come. I’m proud to be a part of this organization.










I was hired in on second shift/ noc, with the first day-shift opening going to me. I was passed over 5 times and 5 other people got hired from the street to day-shift, when I made a fuss and was finally moved to day-shift the management bullied me, all the employees grow up in this small town  and party together so if you aren't in with them you get treated like a dog. It was union and when they tried to write me up for some lame stuff a resident said which mind you she reported 15 people, for rudeness, but they take all they patients that nobody wants due to the fact they are a little town and they are worried about MONEY and not staff and patient care. Don't work here the sign on bonus sounds good and the $$ hourly LPN 30$hr is good but not worth it I lasted 6 months.

This place is not where you want to work if nursing is your passion. Work overload is horrendous. There are no nurses to work here, So they miss out on their medicine a lot. With us having low census on CNA’S we can barely get our job done right. The pay is very low. They rather pay more to agency than to give their workers a better pay. There is no appreciation at all. This is the job that makes you question your self “Why am I’m here”. Corporate hangs out with administrator so nothing will be taken seriously when a complaint is put in. Poor management all around the board.   This job will make you want to leave healthcare altogether. 

Patient load is 30 plus on an regular day with heavy med pass, after completing morning meds around 10-11 your next med pass will likely already be late. There will be constant calls from the front desk for you to answer the phone, even if you tell them your in med pass (which you will be all day). Stress level remain high on a constant basis for all the clinical staff, if help is needed management tends to already have there hands full, not a recommended environment for new nurses.
