A typical day at the Genesee County Nursing Home, is a fun and challeging day. To begin the day, with the beginning of the day, day shift aides arrive to relieve the night shift. Five resident assignments, with eight residents total are passed out, along with a report of the previous shift. The report, is very important for effective communcation between staff. Shorty after, breakfast trays arrive for residents to eat. Those who need to be feed are assisted by the staff accordling. Once breakfast is over, nursing care can begin. Taking time to give each resident proper care is important, residents then are able to get up and start their day. After care, is lunch, residents are able to attend a dinner downstairs to eat or remain on their unit. With lunch, brings the downtime of the day for the evening and residents get back into bed for a nap until dinner. Management can be a bit chanellenging when meeting tough tasks, but with hard work it is solved at the end of the day. Co-workers, are co-workers and getting the job done is the only thing that matters. The hardest part of the job, is the limited amount of time a nursing assitant can have at times which means timing planning are vital. The most enjoyable part part of the job is interacting with residents, learning about who they are and offering empathy for tough moments.

I did clinical Rotation two times due to the fact that i feel in love with the work environment. i also love taking care of others and making sure there comfortable and pain free. the best thing about the opportunity i had as an cna trainee was that i was able to meet new people and make sure they enjoyed the services that i offered them. an example of a clinical day. was when a resident was having trouble with getting dressed one day out of the week from working with her. she was really down. and wanted to sleep all day. but sense its her right to make her own choices i let her no that i have to feed u and clean you, as well as get you up before lunch. even tho she kept telling me no she wanted to stay in bed we came to an agreement that i will let her sleep until lunch was served. once lunch was over she was in a better mood. just knowing that i can reason with someone it made me feel great. making her feel great.i would say that was the hardest part of the job for me. the most enjoyable part is knowing that i am leaving the facility making others proud and waiting to get back up the next morning and do it all over again.

I love my job as a C N A at the County Nursing Home.  I like being able to distribute medications and also like performing ADL's for residents who can no longer do so themselves.  I have learned how to care for residents with dementia, some mental illnesses, behavioral issues and those who need minor assistance and are still very independent at this point in their life.  I have a great group of co workers as it is a small group and we have really learned to work together.  The hardest part of my job is when staffing is limited and we try to perform all duties as if we were fully staffed.  I absolutely love and adore my residents, they are great to take care of.  I love it when a resident asks me where have I been because they have missed me or when they will see me next.  I love knowing that I have made a positive impact in their life and making them feel loved, respected and appreciated.

I started working at the Genesee County Nursing Home right after graduation from high school.  For the first 3 years I worked in the SNF on the night shift.  At that time everyone worked together as a team, all the residents were taken care of properly.  We always had adequate staff, sometimes even extra staff which one nice to get those extras done from time to time.  Around 2001 I transitioned over to the Assisted Living Unit of the Nursing Home where I worked as a Med Tech.  Alot of changes were taking place once the home switched ownership to Premier Nursing.  From that point, the biggest change was poor management.  I maintain love for my residents to this day, I take great pride in providing quality compassionate care.

I have worked here on and off for over 8 years now. Over this time it has become terrible to work here. There is absolutely no staff and they keep terrible employees but push the good ones out. I have watched countless nurses not pass meds or do treatments. One nurse who currently works there sleeps on the job during day shift!! Management knows but does nothing. The aides are over worked and under paid. I have the credentials to work a higher up job there but have been over looked several times. I would not recommend anyone to work here.

Worked with mouthy aides ( swearing in front of residents,  coworkers and residents families)  not very friendly. . Nurses and aides all have attitudes and all are on their phones. . Management well that's another problem. . No one communicates with anybody.  Everybody has an attitude. . . They are really short staff. . But according to management 2 aides for 40 residents during the day is acceptable. . The residents don't get proper care they need. . New owners as of January 1 st 2017 haven't seen no improvements. .

A TYPICAL DAY AT WORK WOULD BE CHECKING DAILY WORK SHEETS FOR ANY ACUTE ISSUES IN BUILDING PRIOR TO MAKING ROUNDS ON THE UNITS. I WOULD ALSO MAKE SURE THAT ALL FLOORS HAVE ADEQUATE STAFFING, AND WOULD REASIGN AS NEEDED. THE HARDEST PART OF MY JOB IS STAFFING WHEN HAVE CALLS INS AND STAFF IS ALREADY OVER WORKED AND I NEED THEM TO WORK LONGER HOURS. THE PART I ENJOY THE MOST IS MY RESIDENTS. I ENJOY TALKING WITH THEM AND WATCHING THEIR FACE LIGHT UP WHEN TALKING ABOUT THEMSELVES.

I would arrive on the unit and immediately would receive report, then proceed to begin rounds on all patients on my assignment. I learned how to work in short-staffed situations very efficiently, and I strengthened my communication skills with the Asian population on the Asian unit (C-Wing). Management was great, they had a 3pm-11pm nursing supervisor that I communicate with frequently. Providing quality care, in often, short-staffed units would be the most challenging aspect of the job; however, I enjoyed and thrived at providing efficient care to meet all patients' needs.

come in give bed baths, get residents dress and ready to get out of bed, feed residents, ambulate them & lay them back in bed after. I learned that everybody needs different type of caring depending on their situations. my head boss was very proud of me because I was inexperienced previous to working here, but made it very known that I was a fantastic worker and treated every patient equally. the most enjoyable part was meeting new people, being able to help them and put a smile on their faces.

Working with the elderly is fun. I love listening to their stories. The management isn't the greatest-very unorganized! I love my co-workers! We all work great as a team. The hardest part of the day would be during care. Trying to get people washed and either ready for the day or ready for bed and answering constant call lights.
