They advertise a Project Accountant role, but you'll spend most, if not, all your time being a biller. There is high turnover for this so-called Project Accountant role. If you're looking to gain or use your skills as an Accountant, don't work here. They're going to talk a good one about you needing to understand billing in order to understand Revenue recognition, which is the only form of accounting that seemed to be available. Management seem so supportive and understanding, but that's only when you do what they want. If you're bold enough to tell them that you're overwhelmed and overworked, and want better for yourself,  start looking for another job because they will let you go, and they'll probably do it over text message. Management made it very clear that they don't care about their employees' well-being, they just care about that billing getting done, which is a complete nightmare by the way. That's the most stressful job I've ever done in my life. Cash receipts are just as bad if not worse. You'll also often hear something about being a team player and wearing many hats, that translates to you working on multiple time-consuming and probably high stress tasks. Put it this way, consider yourself lucky if you're only doing billing.

Good experience for someone interning for college or high school. They teach a little about plan reading and construction practices, which can be helpful. Pay is too low for someone coming out of college. Set your sights higher than being a technician. According to Indeed they pay on average 30% lower than similar jobs. 
Company management said I would move up quick. I kept my head down and worked hard for as long as I could, but received nothing from management to say thanks or good job. ZERO initiative from management to keep good employees around. 
Overall, this is a pretty miserable place to work. They make you use your own car/truck so expect about 1,000 rough miles per week on your vehicle. It is compensated to an extent but the compensation won't pay for a new vehicle. Lots of idle time and driving onto job sites in 4x4. So budget in more frequent 4x4 maintenance on your vehicle. 
Expect to be up early and home just before (if not after) dark. 40 hour weeks are rare. More common are the 45 - 50 + hour weeks. 

Last thing, expect management not to be happy when you want to use PTO, or because you get sick. Also expect them to overwork you when you get back from any kind of sick leave or PTO. 

If there is work- they will throw you directly into the fire with zero training or help and will rely on you to figure it out for yourself. If there is no work- they will fire you. They are a cycle in-cycle out company. Any worker below upper management should be classified as “temporary.” Upper management uses “bad employee retention”as a crux to explain poor relationships with clients. However, the clients are sent workers who haven’t been trained properly, and clashes between both parties are a very regular occurrence (another reason not to work there- getting yelled at for your managements laziness.) 

This is not a truthful company. 

They will not only ask you to lie about your test results, but force you, just  to make sure they don’t get in trouble for being lazy. 

They will make you drive your car across the state and eventually into the dirt. 

They won’t give you clean equipment to do tests with.

This company ONLY cares about the checks/bonuses that come for the upper management. After working there for two years I can say that with plenty of evidence and disappointing experiences. 


DO NOT WORK HERE PLEASE

There was a large gap between the environmental and geologic divisions so God forbid if you were in one and had to consult with the other; the employees there wouldn't give us the time of day. They had individual offices and we had to share a corner desk. I also got paid several dollars an hour less than what I had been promised and the matter was never addressed. 

New hires weren't prepared very well and overall we had a great lack of equipment - had to drive things back and forth all the time and if you were not able to get x for your site in time that was how it was. I was encouraged to come up with an excuse and come anyway and when I wouldn't cover for that people got mad. But the kids without any knowledge of the field were kinda stepped on; especially by this one nasty guy that was jealous of anyone with prior experience. So he hated me and got away with all he did.

If there wasn't work for you that was it, had to go home and not get those hours. The lab was claimed early on when it was bad weather, etc. so don't count on getting your time in there. Wouldn't go here at all.

Honestly if you're looking for a job, this is the last place you'd want to look. I can only speak about my particular office I worked at (as each one is run differently according to the branch manager's desires). The pay isn't worth all the work you perform, and the work isn't at all appreciated by the APM's or PM's. I didn't even have a one year review because "no news is good news." But above all else, the way their reports are laid out isn't stream lined or effective, you don't get the equipment you need more than half the time, and the higher ups thrive on talking s*** about you behind your back. Unless you are well liked and a part of the "in" crowd, you will have no advancement unless you're the only choice. And don't even think about making 40 hrs each week, because you won't. Trust me when I say the work environment is not anything you mentally want to put yourself through.

I loved my time working with GTA. It was a great experience and I learned a lot working there. It was a great entry career in the construction/engineering/ environmental field. You even have potential to move up with them depending on what you want to do and which offices you are willing to work in. The biggest downside is as a geo-tech you don’t have much of a set schedule meaning you work what ever hours the contractor works. Which means in the summer you can work very longs days 10+  as well as weekend work but then when weather is bad you may get few to no hours.  You also have to write a Felid report daily which sometimes you have to do it at home and you don’t always get compensated properly for it. It’s nice that you don’t have to work under a lot of supervision most of the time. The work is also fairly easy and often you get lots of break’s waiting to take a test which gives you lots of free time.

During my time in the Accounting department, I noticed a significant disconnect between outward appearances and underlying dynamics. While interactions often appeared positive, I later learned that there were negative discussions about me after I left, which felt disheartening, especially considering the positive feedback I received during my tenure.

It seems that the expectations for new employees were quite high, as I was only there for a few months and was expected to have an in-depth understanding of all processes. If you find yourself in a similar role, I would advise maintaining a professional distance and focusing on work-related matters. It's essential to be cautious about sharing personal information, as there are individuals within the team who may use it in ways that could affect your experience.

This job is a great place to work if you’re looking to grow and move up. The environment is friendly and supportive, and people are encouraged to learn as they go. Management is approachable and notices when you put in effort, which makes advancement feel realistic and achievable. There are plenty of chances to pick up new skills, take on more responsibility, and work toward better positions over time. Coworkers are helpful, and teamwork is a big part of the day-to-day experience. Expectations are clear, so you know what you need to do to succeed and improve. The company likes to promote from within, which shows they care about keeping good employees long term. Overall, it’s a solid job with a positive vibe and real opportunities for growth if you’re willing to put in the work.


If you’re interested in civil/geotechnical engineering, this is a good company to begin your career. The hours especially during the summer are unfavorable, around 10-11 hours excluding having to write reports everyday. This is good if you’re okay with working 50-55 hour weeks, the overtime money is good, but you won’t have a social life. The management here isn’t the best though. They’ll have you at a site training in one thing and throw you alone into something else, expecting you to be able to manage because it’s “easier”, even if you’ve no clue what to do. They’re not the nicest bunch, either. The younger coworkers are cool and very helpful, but the managers weren’t. Terrible communication and lack of planning was a problem, too.

98% of the work day is conducted in the field, the other 2% would be office time to pick up necessary equipment. When I first started I learned alot of valuable information, but after a few years my learning has stagnated (no thanks to COVID). I really enjoy management, they are friendly and approachable, although they seem reluctant to hire more assistant PMs. Which leaves most of the scheduling, report reviews, and lab work to two managers causing them alot of stress. The hardest part of the job is the large amount of overtime hours you need to work every week, which you need to make a living. The most enjoyable aspect of my job is that I get to be outdoors for the majority of my day.
