Over the last year I worked at GSI, I was hired as a contractor and told if I worked hard and was committed to the mission I'd be a full time employee in no time, my first mistake was taking people at their word. I worked every holiday while others had it off, I was not invited to company events and told I wasn't allowed, If I needed to take time off for any reason it was to be unpaid because as a contractor I dont get benefits. As a recruiter I sold jobs to people and told them we cared when in reality the company has no rotation schedule (Employees in the field are expected to travel and work endlessly with no agreement of when they can go home to see family), we dont promote from within and our employees are underpaid at every level, turnover is double the average and there is no training plan or outline of how to grow within the company, hiring managers have no regard for their employees and they see you as someone they can replace, retaliation from HR happened regularly and they werent affraid to talk about people's backgrounds or personal details amongst themselves. The employees and immediate team I worked with however were great people stuck in a world where change was spoken of but not a realistic concept and they couldn't leave because they have families and bills to pay. It's unfortunate because they have so much potential, but unfortunately they cant get out of their own way to actually improve or be a decent company. I wouldn't recommend people work here, not because the job itself was terrivle but because they have no direction, no real idea of how to run a business and no real care for their people even though they claim they do.

What is the best part of working at the company?
For the work you will be doing in the rain, sun, snow, working in very hazardous conditions (especially if working frontline) the amount of time you will be away from home, and the fact that you're expected to work any overtime that's deemed necessary which it always will be. They do not pay per-diem but claim to take care of you because they pay for your meals, (aka) dinner unless you work with a supervisor who stops for lunch or lets you use the company card for something on the way to the job site. and you will spend multiple weeks sometimes months in some really not great of a hotel in the middle of nowhere with another grown man that you just spent working yourself down to the bone with that you mostly likely not want to go to sleep with in some small hotel. The frontline guys are awesome people and hard workers, you will learn a lot.

they do not pay per diem

away from home for multiple weeks-months having to sleep in same room as coworkers. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Good, but don't believe anything you hear from those that hold supervisory rolls over you (they might say things like don't worry I'll take care of it, or I'll make a call) they all have intentions don't let them whitewash you with false truths.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Hard labor, all day long from daylight to dark.

Pros:
- Company truck
- No vacation policy
- No timesheets
- Freedom in daily schedule

Cons:
- Have to share hotels with coworkers
- Leadership did not follow through on promises
- Lack of support from management
- Lack of clarity on company vision and direction
- Very vague commissions policy that was always changing

This was a wonderful company with an unbelievable culture when I started. That all changed with the shift to "stock price" and "shareholder value." We went from focusing on taking care of people and protecting the public to focusing entirely on the bottom line and the almighty dollar.

They require long, long hours from the whole team. Typical weeks were 70+ hours and thousands of miles of driving to do prospecting. At least 2 nights away from home each week, sometimes more. 

They are undergoing massive organizational change as they shift from a small, niche company to a big, corporate machine.

I would not recommend anyone to go work here.

Work hard or go home is their Motto, that being said you will find yourself working in temperatures ranging from 120 to negative 38, some days you will mix 13 pallets of grout by yourself. Field work is strictly over the road, If there is down time while you are in the field you will not be compensated no matter what your financial situation is, the justification behind this is that they pay for your housing and food on the road. Many times for many people bills became due that they were not able to cover back home and GSI does not care. Work is never guaranteed and neither is pay, your ability to advance there is based upon your supervisor for better or worse.

There really is no such thing as a typical day here at GSI and that is one of the things I love most about the job there is always a new hurdle to jump or challenge that needs to be meet. I have learned that some companies back up what they say and that is exactly what you will find here. everyone is expected to be a leader period. And everyone is held accountable and that goes for management as well. The team here is the best that I have ever been apart of.

If your not into being gone alot, and wakeing up early and busting your butt  every day then this job is not for you. I loved this company. they look out for you take care of anything you need, rent you cars for travel. Even buy your plane tickets if needed. You learn real fast. That the job is hard and not easy at all. But you stay busy and learn new skills. And you and your crew as long as you live up to there moto. WORK HARD OR GO HOME. (says it right on your shirt they supply) you will become like brothers. I still talk to them weekly. One job I miss. But had to leave due to being gone so long with sickness in the family. And a 4 year old son. But I would highly recommend this company. Just bring your A game your gonna need it LOL 

Start the day off with a safety meeting,inspect the equipment and start the day in a beautiful place were I would never be I thank GSI for that we work hard and have a great time doing it.i have learned to shoot concrete which in all my years in construction I have not done so to that I thank GSI for the opportunity to learn that.i love the fact that we are all in this together as a family and help each other when we can get the chance. For me the hardest part of the job is finishing up and moving out of beautiful places that I will not see again and I do cherish all the places I have been to. The best part of the job is doing my best to do a good job that I am proud of and can say yes me and my crew did that job

A typical day at work is being up at 5-5:30 am and then go to store grab some food for the day, arriving at site then discuss your day and all safety concerns for the day. Then do job work clean up and secure site. Either go to hotel and clean up for dinner or just go to dinner and then go to hotel clean up and go to sleep and then do it again for next three weeks then go home for time off then go back and do it again. You will build a great work relationship with guys and teamwork is evident. You will get to see lots of great places and make lasting friends. The hardest part is being away from your family!

The company had a really good culture and safety program, but by the time I was done there, the only thing even me as long as it was the money people change companies change maybe it wasn't Gsi. Maybe I was just tired of being on the road all the time.

traveling haven't spent so much time away from the family and your home

pretty good it's hard work so if you're a good worker, everybody's gonna love you

Challenging jobs, opportunities to move up, and good equipment to work with.

Working for local, state, and federal departments.  Always changing their minds on how to proceed.

Safety oriented,  will listen to issues and true open door policy.

Very busy, multiple things going on with the site. Things always changing.
