If you want a life, DO NOT WORK HERE!!!! First, you go through a week and a half of training. This was the best part of the job. 
(1) If you call out due to sickness or family emergency or anything of that 
     matter, you are punished for it. They take away a day that you had 
     scheduled off and cancel that, then they add a weekend for you to 
     work. 
(2) The management team is two-faced. They tell you that you are doing a 
     wonderful job and then turn around and write you up for some reason 
     that the management team makes up.
(3) There is a lot of favoritism among the whole campus.
(4) You are abused everyday that you work. Verbal and/or physical abuse
     from the patients and you cannot do anything about it. The patient is
     always right.
(5) Constantly being micromanaged. 
(6) Very bad attitudes towards you if you are at the bottom of the totem
     pole. 
(7) Holdovers are supposed to be used for emergency purposes only,
     but that philosophy does not exist with this company. You are 
     constantly held over, especially on the weekends starting on Friday and 
     going through all the way until Sunday.
(8) At the end of the day as you are walking out the door to go home,
     they say, "By the way, you cannot go home because you are going to
     work another eight hours." Management is supposed to tell you at least
     before halfway through your shift, but that never happens.
(9) The only good part of the job are the benefits the company offers.

If you are the only male on the unit, you can pretty much kiss your life goodbye!!!! They always need at least two males on the unit per shift, but that never happens. You are always the only male!!!!!! Also, if you are male, you are the backbone of the unit and they expect you to do everything all at once and, at times, gives you job responsibility when you do not have the qualifications for it!!!!

If you like to be abused verbally and physically and do not have a life, then this is the perfect job for you. Other than that, like I said, if you are 
mentally stable stay away from this job!!!!!

East Central Regional Hospital (ECRH) merged with Georgia Health and Science University (GHSU) in the year of 2010. A typical day at ECRH starts with all Interdisciplinary Team members attending a Morning Report Meeting, beginning at 8:30, Monday through Friday. This meeting is held to discuss CAIR's (Consumer Accident and Incident Report) from the previous day. When the meeting is over, I'm off to my office to read and/or answer e-mails, return phone calls, Open mail from family members, Pull individual files to make documentation (if needed) complete paperwork to include: individual assessments, quarterly notes, transition reports, vehicle request forms, out-of-town trip form, schedule home visits for individuals who are transitioning to the community and etc. These chores are often time put on hold when an individual's annual conference, ISP, or transition meeting is scheduled or when there is an impromptu meeting called, or when a family member is visiting; or when an individual is having a face-to-face or meet-and-greet from community providers. I guess a typical day at ECRH can best be described as totally unpredictable. Working here is learning experience in itself. Management actually could improve staff's morale and the facility's overall atmosphere/environment by implementing the company's mission of treating everyone with dignity and respect. The hardest part of the job is not knowing what the next day will bring. The most enjoyable part of the job is working closely with the individuals (Developmental Disabled); to be a part of making positive changes in their lives; to witness them meeting goals that seemed unattainable for them and to see a smile on their and their family's faces.

A typical day at work consisted of assisting with and attending to needs and also helping to meet particular want. The overall scope was to help the individuals understand and recognize exactly why they were at the facility and to help them develop skills to allow them to deal with certain diagnoses. Interacted through active treatment plans and provided feedback by way of log book notations and filling out observation sheets as well as providing praise when the individuals met goals and encouragement when they fell short. I learned how to incorporate experiences at the facility into my everyday living. My views and values were affected immensely in regards to being able to understand a lot of the issues that the individuals had to deal with. The management did not always seem to be on the same page as the direct care staff , and at times seemed to not grasp the fact that it was more than just a "job"! My co-workers made it a pleasure to work as a Health Service Technician. I have forged bonds with a large vast of people through my time served. We often had to approach activities with the mindstate of a cohesive family unit and that inturn allowed the development of abilities to service the patients properly. The hardest part was viewing at times the lack of patience for the individuals by persons who were employed to facilitate to the needs of others. The most enjoyable part of my job was watching the growth and maturation process of a person

The most important aspect of my job was to provide pastoral care
and counseling to the Patients, Families and Supportive Staff in that institutional setting. It is essential to go beyond the call of duty and be
fully there with listening ear and in as well with a heart full of compassion and care for the needs of that moment. 
My day usually started with Staff report and Units situational assessment from the Head Nurse or Medical Team Co-ordinator ,s
briefings on the previous night with the Patients or Clients. Mostly
the day might be prolonged as a result of bio-medical ethic consultation with the medical staff, family and pastoral care teams
on certain medical ethical issues.
Mostly, to be professional there, when and where you are needed
and provide the necessary pastoral care and counseling to those who are going through traumatic experience in their earthly conditions. I am required to visit at least 10 Patients or Clients in
a day, built rapport with them and made  myself accessible to and for their needs. Confidentiality and trustworthiness are important tools for my day to day interaction with the patients and the families at the setting.

My day starts of by me clocking in on the Kronos Clock, and going into report. The Nurses as well as HST's(Health Service Technicians) sit collectively in the conference room and receive report from the prior shift. Then we are assigned jobs by our Lead supervisors of the current shift, such watching observations, writing in report log, as well as doing the daily paperwork. Then each person will inspect the unit and make sure that all the patients are on it, to ensure the shift that its alright to accept the unit. I learn that you have to be patient working with the mentally ill and that sometimes just by lending them a hand with simple things can better help them to get better at a faster rate. I work well with all my co-workers and they can depend on me for anything they would need and don't understand a particular problem and they do the same when i don't understand. The hardest part about the job is when the patients leave because you build a relationship with each individual as if they where family. The easiest thing about the job is ensure that all patients get everything they need on a day to day basis to get well.

I have learned a great deal at Georgia Regional Hospital. I came with years of HR experience. However, I have acquired Kronos, PeopleSoft and Payroll experience during my tenure. The service that this hospital provides is phenomenal. Georgia Regional rehabilitates the physically and mentally challenged population. I take great pride in helping others, especially those who have short comings. Even though I work in HR as Payroll Specialist, I feel like I am contributing to society in helping others. I have a passion for helping people reach their potential. Compensating an employee for their hard work is a vital component to a successful life. My co-workers are outstanding. The hardest part about the job has been getting everyone onboard for the new Kronos timekeeping and attendance system. I was the spear head to over 1000 employees. Change can cause strife and difficulty sometimes but with a positive attitude and optimism, anything is possible. I enjoy a good challenge. We are now live with Kronos. It is a great success story. This experience has prepared me for my next phase in life. I seek even more challenging opportunities and wonderful experiences in life!

My work normally consists of me generating schedules, supervise time, providing technical assistance and advice to develop, implement, and improve programs, and to perform procurement and budgeting. I have to provide coaching and counseling to managers & teammates to resolve teammate relations issues, coordinates and deliver comprehensive trainings for staff, Assist in the creation, completion and implementation of a Functional Assessment , Positive Behavioral Support Plan and tracking tools. I have learned to audit and assess the needs of the staff, delegate assignments as needed, resolve conflict among employees and to create, maintain and competency folders. I have learned so much from my supervisors. They offer me the ability to closely monitor, shadow and learn different aspects of the trade. The hardest part of my job is the constant changing of policies. You have to be extremely fluid in my line of work. The most enjoyable part of my job is when what I do was a complete success and patients not only get better but rejoin society as a functional individual.

I work with mental health individuals that's getting ready to get out into the community. I report to work at 7am until 3:30pm(1st shift). We have morning report about three shift from previous day. We take their vital signs and input the vitals signs into the computer. Then we assist the individuals with their daily living skills. After their chores we take and accompany the individuals to work, class, appointments, shopping and etc. 
  I've learned how to chart on the computer. The charge nurse passes the medicine and make appointments when needed. My co-workers works greats as a team as well as individually.
  The hardest thing about my job is seeing the individuals leave because we so attached to them while they're there in the hospital but at the same time it's the most enjoyable part of the job because they have made wonderful progress and work so hard to get to that point to be leaving the hospital.

A typical day a work on the night shift is pretty laid back. Most of the action is on the day and evening shift where the individuals (what we call the patients here) get to go to day classes and activities. On units that prepare individuals for the community, we participate in taking them on shopping trips, out to eat, the movies, etc. (That's the fun part.) We work with mentally ill individuals (people with bipolar disorder and schizophrenia just to name a couple.) Staff is pretty laid back, but we never let our guard down because you never know when one of the individuals will go into a behavior or regress. During those times, an individual may try to attack staff  or another peer and may have to be placed in one of the approved safety holds to get a shot administered. (That's the bad part.) For the most part, it's a pretty cool job and the company pays 9 credit hours per semester for people like me that want to further their education.

What is the best part of working at the company?
It’s a pleasure to work with the individuals you can really grow in this state facility. I started as a housekeeper in a year. I became the Team deed over the housekeeper where I stay in that department for 3 1/2 years move to the unit as a regular tech in 2 1/2 years move up to a lead tech so it is open availability to move up in the state facility. I love my job.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?

Although some days are better than others, I must say When the individuals is not full and just want more food

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Working in the safety of others engaging with the individuals throughout the day, making sure that they are hygiene. Medications are well met for each shift.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Taking the individuals outside for fresh air enjoying them engaging with each other while enjoying themselves out side activities
