I enjoyed my time at Gerbes for the most part. It's easy to get hired, a lot of my coworkers were excellent, I got as many hours as I requested and was always given days off when requested as well. Union fees are ridiculously high, nearly $13 a WEEK, which is a lot when you work part time minimum wage. Union makes it so you can't get merit-based raises. Rarely enough people working the front end so was often very busy and somewhat stressful. Not strict management, which was nice. Standing for nine hours isn't fun but it's an easy job overall when it's not super busy. Met a lot of interesting people (customers), which I will miss doing. Lots of employees are really lazy and no one ever gets on to them about it - extremely irritating when all the baggers want to stand and talk and the FES won't say anything about it. Paid weekly, usually no holiday pay, no overtime.

Gerbes considers themselves an equal opportunity employer, however, I disagree.  While working at gerbes, the management has taken little-to-no interest in my personal mental health struggles, including depression, epilepsy, and anxiety.  I feel strongly that the only reason I excelled in my position is because I kept the knowledge of my disability (epilepsy) relatively quiet.  During the interview process, I, or the people in my group interview, was not required to give a drug test.  Weekend shifts are mostly made up of high school students, making it difficult to stay focused and remain on task as a department.  We currently have no night shift manager, making that particular shift quite chaotic.

Working at a grocery store is what you make of it. You can find some amazing friends and you can let the person with a bad mood bring you down, or you can be happy in doing your job well and knowing that you have to repeat it tomorrow. Everybody shops for groceries and it is up to them where they shop so an employee is a vital part of customer experience in their want to come visit that store again. At the same time, some people are going to shop for connivence and come back because it is the closest store. Having said all of that, the people you work with every day and the relationships you build with return customers helps improve your experience at any store. So be a team player and leave your problems in the break room or at the door and make your way happily through the day.

They didn't pay full time enough and in some cases paid part timers too much!  You have people goofing off all the the while others were over whelmed and working their a...off!  Management isn't working with you they work against you but to be fair it came from above them they just did most of it due to pressure above!!  I work for a store that is being closed down and they told us not to worry we would be taken care for of!  If you thing going from full time lower management with okay pay but not what your were worth to part time cut in pay and only guaranteed 15 hrs a week!  That was offered that to even people that had over ten years of service for them!!

I have really enjoyed my time at Gerbes. A typical day is fast paced, learning new things about pharmacy and healthcare in general. Management at my store was fantastic, however, upper management was sub par. Our stores paid technicians the least amount of money, $1-$3 less per hour for my years of experience, and expected us to perform the same tasks if not more than others in my area. But, our customers are always so appreciative of our hard work and we do get recognized by management for that. The hardest part of this job was learning the computer system. If you have no experience in a pharmacy, then the hardest part would be learning rules and regulations as well as the computers.

Gerbes can be flexible with schedules etc, no hardships for me there.
The environment is fast-paced and you do have to deal with every type of person imaginable, some difficult, some very complementary and kind.
There were times where I didn't have anything to do as a cashier and you aren't supposed to do much of anything besides wait for the next customer. The tutorials managers gave were often extremely vague and you had to figure things out on your own but teammates/coworkers were often very helpful. 

Everyday at work I would come in and get started on making flower arrangements. After that was done, I would clean up the mess, put the arrangements in the cooler. Sweep the floors, do any dishes that needed to be cleaned. My boss was fantastic. She was always someone I could talk to about my day. My co-workers were pretty cool too. There was one who I worked with almost everyday and we got along super good. The hardest part about this job was making sure you had enough essentials to use making the flower arrangements. The most enjoyable part of this job was putting your flower arrangements you made out on display.

I worked for gerbes for a week and 1/2 and ended up quitting. First off u hardly get a fair wage through them. 2nd off you never get hired on for what you apply for and lastly if you expect to get paid for the work u will be waiting. I was to be paid on Thursdays direct deposit and I’m still waiting for my paycheck I got a paystub but no money to go along with it. I definitely would advise everyone to look for a different company to work for or u will be a unpaid worker through that company.

Gerbes offered raises every 6 months with constant extra hours you could pick up if needed with with eventual transition to full time with benefits. At the deli we had a manger who treated everyone like garbage. We were called worthless, idiots, and constantly belittled. The Chinese had employees who would dissapear and we'd be yelled at for serving the Chinese customers and does el as for not several customers and I complained but nothing was ever done.

I learned to bag groceries and to work on a fast-paced grocery line. I was always on time and always got along with my staff. Every part of my job was enjoyable. I worked as much as possible and I was paid weekly $10 dollars an hour. The management was very professional.
The place opens at 6 am and closes at 12 am. There are always customers shopping and we constantly would stock, bag groceries, check out and clean among various other activities done to keep the store productive.
