Most of the supervisors give very little infrormation on how to do certian tasks, this is even worse when they give you a new job you haven't done before that they have, they just give you the job ticket and say "figure it out" and an hour in yell at you about how it should have been done 45 minuets ago. supervisors in packaging are very toxic, they will either restrict things that aren't even able to be enforced like not being able to have your phone in the building (people didn't listen to this rule anyway and management gave up which shows how incompetent they are in packaging to begin with) or just be upright hostile towards their employees for not getting the job done when the time frame for completion was impossible to begin with. Supervisors also play favorites with their employees too, you can tell which side I was on

the piecework is usually a really bad rate for the ammount of work if you plan on making a decent wage from it, and by decent I mean what you already get paid regularly to do things that aren't piecework.

I would highly suggest avoiding the packaging department all together and ether work in their printing or fulfilment department.


Gilson Graphics is a family owned and operated Printing Company. It is a terrific environment to learn your strengths and weaknesses in the work place. You learn how to work as a team and how to teach others. Management is great to work with and flexible with your schedule. You start out as a contract employee and are offered part-time employment based on reliability, productivity, and attitude. Advancement within the company is offered and encouraged. You will get out of the experience what you put into it. Overall, Gilson Graphics is a fabulous place to work. I learned more about myself working there in one year than I had at anytime employed anywhere else.

What is the best part of working at the company?
The insurance.  They have very good insurance and have not raised the amount you pay for it in 3 years or more.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Other departments making mistakes that need to be fixed by another department or sourced out to be fixed.


What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The people try to work together out on the floor and communication, at least in my department is good.  We know what we need to get done each day and work at it to get it done.

punch in find out what work is available and what needs to be done that day set the priority and begin working through the priority list

 Training was clear, and expectations were communicated well, which made it easy to get up to speed quickly. The work is steady and fast-paced, but manageable, and there is a strong emphasis on quality and teamwork. Management is approachable and willing to help when needed. Overall, it’s a solid place to work with a positive atmosphere and good people.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Lot's of the work is behind on schedule and they rush to finish and pack. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
lot's of confusing job code's you have to sign in and out off. laid back one day then stressful rush the next!

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
You start by finding someone to assign you somewhere to work some time's they do not know what you're going to be doing for a while. learn the pack then get a workplace and carefully package hoping it: was correctly set up!

I worked for Gilson for almost 20 years and was hired as a Creative Director and then moved into an Account Executive position after about 8 years. when I started we had 60 employees and when I left over 200 so I helped grow the business over the years. I worked 40-60 hour weeks and learned many things associated with printing and how it changed over the years. I enjoyed my job and didn't consider it hard but enjoyed who I worked with and the workplace. Management at times was not the best but got better as time went by. Currently its good but could be much better........

I've worked at Gilson for 10+ years and there's never a dull moment. We all wear a lot of hats, and every day brings something different. Which brings out the creativity and collaboration in our teams. Those who simply want to punch a clock, won't find much opportunity for advancement. But those looking to grow in their role and their career will find the opportunity to do so here. Very hard working, nose-to-the-grindstone culture, and a lot of structural and management changes in the last 5 years (for the better.)

I would stay far away from this company I need to deal with payroll.possibly have to file with labor board dept. just to get paid.don't clock in and out when you first start no key card to get in door breaks and start times vary among employees.they have new employees training other new employees that don't know a lot and don't want to train people and constantly on their cell phone.

They claim to be flexible but even if provided with proof and doctors notes, will fire you if you have any medical issues. It was nice that it was on the bus line, but good luck getting any benefits. Don't be fooled by the salary, you're considered an "independent contractor" so you'll end up owing a ton. Even if you're hired in and taxes are taken out, you won't get any benefits.

Enjoyed working there. Pay and raises are substandard and inadequate; although the benefits are good. Things got worse after changes in management. Worked there 15 1/2 years and when I got laid off I found out seniority is irrelevant to them. Got along with most of the employees; yet got kicked under the bus by several of them(including management).
