I began my journey over at Giving home health care when they were smaller and simpler. They were all about ‘family’ and helping people in need. I was sure that I had finally found the perfect place for me. Through the years it seemed to be fine, and I was just going through the motions, helping my patients and watching myself grow in the company. Over the past I would say six months or, so things have been getting increasingly worse. Every time you ask for help even though they are big on “just asking whenever you need it” they would not respond. They leave the bottom of the barrel out to dry because it’s not their problem. Everyone that is in a DCM or higher position got that way because they knew somebody or because they threatened to quit and instead of replacing them, they would offer them more money to convert to their way of thinking and people would take it. The positive about the job is that it pays decently so you can pay your bills but it’s not worth the mental and emotional torture that you endure every day being there. (OH- and forget a raise! You are supposed to be able to ask for one every year when you did an evaluation, but I was there over three and never had ONE. The only time you will get a raise is when they promote you into doing more work and really getting paid less, also doesn’t matter how long you worked there if you drink the Kool-Aid and they think that you can work without being supervised, because of course less work for them, they “promote” you.)

While patients and their family are calling you begging for help, managers are playing games and hiding things from each other thinking every day is a joke, must be awesome for them! I originally joined Giving because I wanted to help people. I then had to leave Giving because I wanted to continue to help people and the company would not allow me to do that. They manipulate you into thinking that what is happening is YOUR fault and talk about how you are stuck in the victim cycle. At this point the only people that are hurting in the end are the patients that really do need help, but now they just want to funnel in the easy patients to get their numbers up. I have watched so many people that have been there for a long period of time leave or get let go because of all the changes, and these were good people who went above and beyond. The supervisor that I had would never get there on time, would never check in with me, would never help, and would leave early. But guess what? They keep getting promoted all the way to the top. But the supervisor that I got instead of him that was super helpful and really cared about you and the company was demoted. Giving home health care does not care about you or the patients anymore. They try to tell you that you are a “family” but do not believe them. Save yourself the headache and although the pay is good for the work, do not apply to this position. The work life balance is also TERRIBLE. You are expected to always answer your phone, emergency or not. You have nurses, cnas, pcas, family, the client, doctor offices, etc. calling you at all hours of the day. It didn’t matter if I was on PTO, at home cooking with my family, I was expected to drop everything to help people. Which of course I would not mind if the expectations of this job were clear and not outrageously done. They expect way too much of people who used to work at retail stores and have NO medical background.  Also—don’t read the job descriptions you are applying for, as someone who worked there NONE of them are accurate and proves that no one in this whole company really knows what different departments do. They say they are all about communication, but nobody knows what each department does.

The people that I worked with during my time were pleasant for the most part. I had started when the office was fairly small. During this time, there were bouts of turnover that would happen roughly once every half year in which 1 or 2 people left the company, which is pretty normal. It wasn't until the team got big enough that there had to be 5 different offices in the same building that I really had a chance to see turnover skyrocket. In one month alone, 10 people had either resigned or had gotten fired. In an office that consists of 100 people, seeing 10% of the workforce shaved down that quickly is troubling. There would be several months of these huge waves of turnover and all for various reasons- they didn't have enough training, they couldn't handle workload, management didn't like them, etc. This, however, is only one piece to the puzzle. The company employs "motivational tools" to help employees gain a sense of accountability, yet from my experience  all I have seen is blame shifted around and gaslighting employees as the modus operandi used by management. Fix Your Focus, Oz Principle, 5 Dysfunctions of a Team, etc. All of it is bologna. The ownership of the company uses it to pigeonhole employees into believing they work a certain way because of their "personality types", but there is absolutely nothing special about these principles nor do they have any real effect on the production and efficiency of the team. It's force fed to new managers who have never been managers before and have never led a group of people.  Administration would shove this down our throats to read every week and share our thoughts during management meetings, but I would roll my eyes because while we were discussing things from the books, there were more important things I could have been doing, such as ensuring patients and their families were being taken care of. Gaslighting has become a prevalent part of the culture and one day you'll be commended up and down about how good you're doing, and then the next minute you're being written up for something you didn't know you had to do. It's an uncomfortable workplace and this is only scratching the surface. There's so many other underlying issues here that there could be an entire book written about it, but the meat and potatoes version comes down to this: administration is inexperienced and playing like they're pretending to run a medical office, there are too many managers, which no longer makes the position special and in fact, devalues it.  

When the company was small, it felt as if there was a definite organizational ladder to climb, but as the company grew, everyone became a manager. How is that possible? How does someone become a supervisor but has no one to supervise? This is another case of too many chiefs and no Indians.  

The honest truth about giving is that they don’t care about you or the patients. They care about money. They might have started off caring, but that isn’t the case anymore. They have bitten off more than they can chew and it’s clear as day in the office. No one is happy here. Everyone is beyond miserable. Management constantly gives the patients false hope and then they blame it on the case managers when it doesn’t happen at the drop of a hat. People cry every day from trying their hardest to do everything right. They hire people pleasers because they know that they will try everything they can to meet the unattainable goal of keeping everyone happy. Everyone is overworked and underpaid for everything they do. Nothing is in compliance or ethical. People work overtime off the clock in order to get everything done(I know because I have done this), but not get into trouble for going into overtime.  Case managers are the most underappreciated staff in the company. However, without them… EVERYTHING would crumble. They go to all the doctors appointments, review everything needed and somehow try their very best to make things happen. They have some case managers where they have 20 renewal periods within 2 months. It’s like their ONLY goal is to burn everyone out and then discard them. Management can be very passive aggressive and make it uncomfortable to even talk. Do you know how uncomfortable it is to walk on egg-shells all the time? It’s exhausting. Emotionally and mentally exhausting & if you’re one of those many people that stay after 5 o’clock it’s also physically exhausting. They say that Giving is a family, it is not. It is a job. Your family is at home and that’s how it should be. It is manipulative to say otherwise.  To all of the lovely people who have managed to escape this place, I am proud of you. I know how hard it is to leave behind patients you have grown to love. However, your mental health is more important. I am finally realizing that after a while of being in this wormhole. So to put it short, you don’t want to work here. You’re worth more than that.

This review is within office for Care team specialist, not for CNA/PCA/Nurses/etc. You won't have access to benefits or PTO until AFTER you pass your 90 days. Depending on your manager, you can request days off if needed but it'll be unpaid. They do give new hires after one month of working a chance to sign up for benefits. PTO is a bit short, but it is healthcare. They also give you a Birthday day off and a Floating Holiday for if you want to take a certain holiday off. But theyre flexible and you can use it however you like it. Overall working at this company is really great in my opinion. 90 days goes by fast, so it wasn't a struggle for me. Management was very flexible with how things work and understands when life hits you. I personally love the culture and can easily talk to majority of everyone. Everyone cares about you and willing to teach you. We get free lunches once a month to celebrate birthdays! (The good lunches btw). The company is constantly growing, so lots of policies are changing, but for the better. We are patient first, but also the employees support each other. I think this job is good for those who want to dip their toes in health care without being overwhelm by a bigger Healthcare company. Basic dental and vision is free. Medical is not free but is a bit more affordable than doing it elsewhere. 

Depending on your role, you may need to visit patients in their home or help them with doctor's appointments. Or you might be in a role where you're mostly in office doing notes. Occasionally there is traveling in some roles, but you can be reimbursed for it. The only frustrating thing I have is the sudden change of mind last minute from the admins or not hearing anything until day of. But other than that, everything is fine!

Best part of working at Giving?

The employees within the functional area/team that I worked in were great
They were very kind, empathetic, and good at their jobs.

At the first line ground level, they are very supportive of each other.

Most stressful part about working at Giving?

Work loads tend to be too high for many of the staff areas (& I have worked in several of the areas/teams). 

The local and corporate managers give lip service to positive change, but it does not materialize in the form of on the ground relief. 

The bottom line is always the bottom line - not long term retention/treatment of employees.

Corporate has been stuck in this endless "restructuring" loop ever since the since the company was bought out about 1 1/2 years ago. This has resulted in more meaningless hoops to jump through, a culture of leadership secrecy & endless new vision meetings.
In the last year there have been 3 big events where groups of employees are fired without notice or reason. Always we are told either "we can't tell you why" or " to increase efficiency. This has resulted in more work load for those of us left and no trust for our supervisors or management.

It a kind of passive aggressive toxicity. Pay is on average with other area care providers. Bonuses however were taken away from some folks and kept for others. This fuels internal strife and deepens mistrust.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The pay is fair. Raises happen but are slim (and they are few and few between).

A typical day @ Giving looks like:
Endlessly trying just to catch up and keep up just to collapse on Friday.

Rinse and repeat.

Expect there to be new things added even if you haven't caught up with what you already were doing.

My workdays are great because I can be flexible depending upon what my patients needs are. 
~ I get to schedule my visits with my patients directly.
~ I can spend as much time with my patients as they need, because:
~ I don't have a HUGE patient-load. The ratios are humane and manageable, allowing me to spend QUALITY time with my patients.
~ My patients are relatively close-by and I don't have to spend inordinate amounts of time commuting.
~ Travel and charting time are factored into my assignments.

My Management Team is great:
~ They value my experience and expertise.
~ They listen to and respond to suggestions that I have for improving patient-care and work-flow. 
~ They understand the benefits of a reasonable patient load and work diligently to make sure that I don't have too many hours per week.
~ We're not top-heavy inn Management

The hardest part of my job:
~ Difficult to think of anything that's "hard."
~ Working as a Contractor means that, while the staff makes sure that there's always work for me, it's not guaranteed.
~ Working as a Contractor, I don't receive any benefits; I have to find my own insurance and make sure that I've saved "vacation" cash for when I'm not working/getting paid.

The most enjoyable part of my job:
~ As noted already, being able to spend quality time with my patients; listening to their stories, supporting them in their journey through illness, getting to know their families. 
~ Being a Contractor. Yes, I did say that it's difficult in some ways, but being able to be "self-employed," and considering this as MY business is EXCELLENT!

I have witnessed some of the best and worst kind of people here.  People come work here for what they try and make you believe what is 1st and most important.  Then once you are a veteran (3-6months) I’m not even joking.  Then you really get to see their true colors.  It’s like being in high school.  The nepotism is ridiculous and if don’t play into managements hands & their petty games you become a target. In the time I was here, I had a
Speed training session & I had zero guidance, told ask others who were just as lost as I was.  I have seen good people whom work hard, have an amazing work ethic and truly want to be there for the love of there patients be treated so horribly, talked about, made fun of behind their back and made to feel as if they were failing because they stood up
For their patients and themselves.  When the so called “joke of managers” are 95% of the  reason why there is a ridiculous amount of turn over.  There are people there whom have genuine hearts, who want to work in health care because it’s a calling and they come here because that is the way this company sells it.  This could be an amazing company with longevity, helping people whom need & deserve the help with the proper structure and policies. Then there is the “upper management” and they are the few who will bury this company. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Pretty great culture 👌 
I've been able to experience some good and bad times in the past months that I've been here, and to be honest, there's hardly any "bad" times. You will have the usual coworker problems (attitude, some sla k here and there, etc.) but that's alanywhere you go. At least here, they really listen to understand and accomodate to your conformity. The perks are great and the laughs are fulfilling. I recommend this workplace to anybody with a background in healthcare services and with whom shares the same passion to help patients just like us. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Honestly, we recently found out there's not too much of a weather policy in place and a lot of us were kind of panicking with the thought of not being able to go home just for that reason. But- it's Texas. I don't blame them. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Lovely. It'll show to be interesting at first with how comfortable everybody's grown on each other, but we remain to keep up a professional face. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
It'll turn out stressful, but it's rather be stressed here than anywhere else. Here, I know I have the support I won't get anywhere else.

This company prides themselves on their culture, but they have a very high turn over rate for a reason.  They have a group of mean girls who go around trying to be friends with people then lying on them to get them either written up or fired and nobody checks them for doing so. Never asking the people they lied on if any of it was true. Management writes down everything you do even if you don't get in trouble for it then stock pile and use it against you later. Administration does not show up when it's important and they lose patients for it. Instead they expect the case managers to handle administrative responsibilities with the patients. They are constantly changing rules and procedures and expecting everyone to keep up with the weekly changes. They tell you to have a work life balance but then expect you to staff your cases with nurses and CNA's after hours sometimes until 11pm or later. You will wake up to sometimes 15-20 text messages because you had a call off in the middle of the night. This place is a very stressful place to work with very little reward at the end of the day. I would not recommend working here to anybody. The turn around is massive at this point and even the person who helped start the entire company, quit, which says alot.

What is the best part of working at the company?
This job is very flexible with an individual' s life and schedule. You can choose to work either day or overnight. the staff that you will work with to get work and keep up with your schedule a very professional and nice. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
On occasion you can be assigned a permanent job. Then suddenly out of the blue you're taken off without a good explanation of why.  It did take about a year for me to be able to finally get into the day shift with a permanent person to take care of. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is very laid back and calm. The culture at the company is very friendly and helpful. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
In this kind of work you have to be a self-starter and independent. You have to be motivated. I show up to my assigned patient for the day. I get oriented with them. I take their vital signs and record them in their patient handbook and in my charting. By now there is an established routine with this patient. So I watch over them closely and meet there needs as best as I can. Us as their caregivers learn how to properly take care of them.
