1) This company is open 24/7 including holidays so if you don't have a family or a need to be off on holidays then this place is for you! Where I worked wasn't 24 hours yet & I say "yet" because they do let you know that their is a possibility that it maybe one day so always keep that in mind but we still worked holidays. 2) do you have a sensitive nose or easily offended by loud smells? Because some of the women in the call center are into natural oils & have no consideration for the other employees they are cooped up with in that small call center all day & they drench themselves in the stuff employees can be heard complaining of the loud smells within the break room but keep quiet out of fear of retaliation from the higher ups. 3) Most of the mangers or people you will rely on for help do not know their job you will find yourself getting multiple answers on simple things just to find out all of those answers were wrong, I will admit the people where I was located were very nice and knew their job & very pleasant when you reach out for help. The Alaska team was usually rude and dry and treated us like they didn't want to be bothered half the time and when you're a new employee whose never worked in a call center it's extremely disheartening to call for help and get treated like that. 4) to some of the higher ups you are just a # expected to take your calls and be there at all times they will not understand that emergencies come up and their attendance policy is the worst which is why some employees have been there for over a year and can't advance & don't go out on LOA for health reasons or you will be written up, placed on probation, or unable to be promoted because they consider this bad attendance 5) they will tell you it's lots of room for advancement which isn't true as I said before its employees that have been there for years and are good at their jobs and get looked over for promotions they go after

This is a good company, has great benefits, opportunities to move up are available, but can take over a year to move up. The company is always hiring because the turn over rate is so high at many of the branches.
THIS IS A HEAVY SALES JOB. You have sales goals and are expected to meet them each week/month/year. Everything is about the sales of credit cards, loans, ect. If you are not comfortable pushing products do not apply for this company.
The hours are not great, this company is open 7 days a week, and almost all holidays; great for the members but terrible for employees. Your shifts are either 930-630 or 1030-730, and most your days off will not be together.
I work at a particularly strict branch so I can only attest to my experience at this one branch, but the company is very 'old school' in that they want professionalism to the extreme, which leads to a very conformist and stifling atmosphere. No personal conversations, ect.
There are bonus opportunities each month based off branch totals and shared evenly by each branch employee that did not have any missed time. If you are out sick or tardy and do not have the paid time off to cover it, you forfeit your monthly bonus.
For me this was a good opportunity to learn banking, but not a long term job, I need more personal time than one day off here and there.
I will continue to bank with this credit union as it is a good company.

Working at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union was a challenging job for me. The basics of my position were that of any standard customer service job: I greeted and interacted with members daily and assisted them with transactions and finding financial products and services that work best for them. 

The most enjoyable part of the job was getting to meet and form relationships with the different members and different branch teams. The hardest part of the job was meeting the sales goals. 

One of the major perks of working at Alaska USA is that you accumulate a lot of leave time. In the 18 months I worked there, I managed to accrue over three weeks of leave time. However, one major draw back is that you get no sick leave: if you need to call in sick you are going to dip into your PTO. Also, it can be very difficult to use your leave time because of other team members putting in for leave etc. 

As a whole I had a fairly positive experience at Alaska USA but I'd only recommend applying for branch level positions if you like a face paced, sales focused job.

If you like selling you’ll do great but be warned the amount of multitasking is ridiculous. Not only can you become overloaded with side work (sales tracking, decorating, meeting minutes, audits, etc) but some managers expect you to have flawless “Member perception”. If you are assigned a lot you have to work on it “in between” Members which can almost feel impossible since you’re also expected to immediately greet the Member and call them to your window. Seniority does NOT do well with pushback or even being questioned for advice on misunderstandings/disconnect in interpretations. They have a problem explaining the difference between preference and policy and if you question their method it gets you in the hot seat. They don’t celebrate differences but instead have a standard of conformity including the verbiage used to speak to Members. Upon exiting I was asked what I would change ab the CU and I said have checks and balances between management and staff. The manager conducting my exit meeting said something to the effect that’s not possible. I suggested HR could reach out for staff to regularly survey management.

As a control officer in the Special Credits department, a typical day at work was fast paced, back to back calls; consisting of inbound and outbound calls, calling members and mitigating their delinquent accounts or loans.
I've learned how to assist members who are experiencing financial hardship with skip payments and payment plans. Provide members the best way to minimize debt if they can no longer afford their loan.
Management was great, they always supported their teams and took the time to help those who were eager to get promotions.
The hardest part of the job was learning the Negotiation of Sale (NOS) procedure, since there was no training before being assigned. This process was taught as you were assigned an NOS.
The most enjoyable part of the job was talking to members; although we're calling with regards to delinquency, at the end of the day you're having a conversation & trying to help them the best you can. Most of the time there is an urgent reason why members are unable to make their payments, and I love letting them know I am here to help them.



As a disclaimer, before working for Alaska USA my only other job experience was food service. The interview process was handled by the management team for the department I worked in, and after a few days of orientation and training I was working a steady 9am- 5:30pm job with weekend/ federal holidays off. 

Rarely were there days with nothing to do, there's always something to keep you busy. the work was a more time-sensitive for the department I worked in, which also frequently meant working with other departments within the company as well. As a minor complaint, some people did not seem interested in working with you, as they seem to have other things they'd rather work on, but other than those individuals the company itself always promoted working together to service their members.

Overall, Alaska USA has opportunities for different individuals, and experience may vary based on where you find yourself within the company.

Alaska USA is still new in Spokane so there's not much action yet. But the people there are great, I wish them the best. The products and services are great, the access online is the best I have ever seen and the fees are minimal. I have recommended them to friends and still plan to keep an account with them. 
I learned how to do loans and open accounts, which I hadn't done before. 
The branches are small which can be cramped if all of us are there, and there's little privacy.
Since opening in Spokane, we've been getting more business with members in Idaho but our loan department is in Alaska and they are unaware of Idaho laws for documents required in Idaho.
Alaska USA is open 7 days a week, 352 days a year. With that days off can be a little inconsistent and often split but management is as flexible as possible to keep everything balanced. But the convenience for members is a plus.
With the slow pace, the pressure is on for activity which is stressful.

I love the team that I work with and my supervisor.  However, when it comes to process and structure it is very disorganized due to top heavy middle management. The decisions made by management do not make logical sense plus have to deal with all these different supervisors or managers that are never on the same page. 
New system was developed without consulting those who actually work and know the system.  We are currently having to have these enhancements due to that decision with a company roll out in three months.
I want to work for a company where their actions match their words given to the employees.  In addition, treat their hard working employees with appreciation and rewards.    
I understand that not one company is perfect and I have worked with some poorly ran companies, with that being said, this one is the first where those who act poorly still have their behaviors rewarded at a higher rate than those who do their job properly.

I have personally found while working at Alaska USA that the company genuinely cares for its members as well as their employees.  The managers all effectively convey this through out the work day and often show appreciate for their departments and taking care of difficult members in the most professional ways available.  We all tend to engage in a number of fun activities together whenever possible including other departments. 
Our days can be repetitive since its often just posting checks as a teller but the supervisors are extremely supportive and are able to answer questions at all most any moment.  The team is also helpful and will assist when need be such as if we receive a lot to post in one day.
The reason I decided to apply for this job was because all of my life I have worked directly with customers and this job provided not only the opportunity to not be member facing but also a great opportunity to learn more about credit unions and data entry.

I’ve been a member service specialist I  for a year so far. Training was super easy and my team is very helpful when I’m not sure what the answer is for a tricky call.  Average calls per day I take is around 120, most of these calls are regarding balance inquiries, members making loan payments, or issues with CC/debit card which then gets transferred to a specialist II. 

Cons: Hardest part for me is sitting for almost 8 hours due to my sciatica pain but my supervisor has allowed for me to take small breaks in between to stretch. I work from 12pm-9pm and have been trying to switch to earlier hours since the beginning but they go by “Bids” when the schedule is open. Basically give it to employees who’ve been with them longest. Also very repetitive calls, it’s tough not to lose your mind after a year but I believe job security and pay outweighs this part.
