I took a position in the Woodbury commons location as an assistant store manager, i was told right away that we were all easily replaceable and each manager had their own DOR( department of responsibility). No one followed through with their DORs and we had a very high turn over rate especially with management. 

I was sent to a lower Volume store to be trained, during my time training i was told multiple different policy's and procedures that were inaccurate. i was not trained on a lot of the things i would be dealing with on a daily basis. i was told t just work through everything and i did as necessary. 

Once i started in the Woodbury location full time i was immediately introduced to the Lazy incompetent staff and managers.  there was obvious tension and favoritism by the store manager who has been with the company for 5 years. Immediately i noticed the lack of responsibility and accountability by everyone in the store from staff to management as well as professionalism.

I started to work 6/7 days a week doing over 70 hours the week of thanksgiving and black Friday due to lack of staff and between 55-68 hours the next 3 weeks through Christmas. 

After black friday the store manager was out for almost 3 weeks due to a preexisting injury and i was tasked by the regional manager as well as the store manager to help keep things running smoothly since the other managers and staff were unwilling/unable to step up and help. 

Before the holiday season was over i was stressed due to working 7 days a week and not getting paid extra for my efforts and i considered putting in my notice. When i texted the store manager/regional manager about it they asked me not to leave. they offered to send me to a different location for a week so we agreed i would not leave. my notice was never officially given. 

Three day later the regional manager came in to the store and told me she would have to see if i was going to stay because she did not do " take backs on notices" however i had never officially put in notice and i had text messages as proof of her asking me not to quit/not to give notice.

A week later with 10 minutes left in my shift i was told by the store manager that it was my last day and she was not going to be putting me back on the schedule even though it hadn't even been two weeks yet. 

i asked for the number for HR and Was told no, i had gone through another person to get the information to call and file a report against the store manager. 

when i spoke to HR i was informed they were aware of the lack of professionalism by the store manager and the issues caused by her lackluster management style. in the matter of 3 weeks 5 employees had quit and all of them sited the store manager as the reason why. 

i was also texted by multiple associates asking why i didn't work for the company anymore because they were told lies and gossip by the store manager. 

its the most absurd, unprofessional, unclean work environment i have ever been apart of. Stay far away- Nothing good will come of this place.

Dirty store, lazy staff, Rude regional manager, Lazy store manager, unprofessional and not worth it.

My work routine always depended on what shift I was working. If I was working the weekly day shift my work consisted of answering any calls, emails, or chats that came in to the call center and addressing any complaints or concerns that the customer had. Whenever there was a lull in calls and emails I would enter orders that had been mailed to our facility or maintain our catalog mailing list as needed. During the weekend day shifts we would call customers in which there were payment processing issues for their orders in-between calls and emails. The work routine was the same on both the weekly and weekend night shifts. There was rarely extra work to do in-between calls and emails. When there was it was addressing whatever order issues the day shifts did not have time to take care of.

In addition to learning how to use different types of computer programs, I gained a lot of experience in dealing with escalated customer situations. This is the one piece of experience that I took away from this position that has been invaluable to me. The patience that was necessary when dealing with irate customers has been vital in all of my other positions, especially in the legal field. Because of my experience at Godiva I had more patience when dealing with high maintenance clients then some of the other support staff at the law firms that I worked at.

Godiva's Customer Care Center was a very relaxing place to work, customer complaints aside. Everyone that I worked with was relaxed, easy going, and we were always willing to provide whatever assistance we could to our fellow representatives, both in and out of the office. The same could also be said of the supervisors and managers. There was no real definable tension or line between the representatives and management. Any issues or specific complaints about the representatives that were forwarded to supervisors were handled efficiently and professionally.

The hardest part of being a Customer Care representative was, of course, dealing with the customers that had complaints. With some of these customers there was nothing that you could do to resolve the issue to their satisfaction. Having a complaint where there was no true resolution was a difficult thing to deal with. 

Fortunately, there were times that we would get complaints that could be resolved to the customer's satisfaction. Often the resolutions went above and beyond the customer's expectations. Being able to help a person beyond their expectations was what made working at Godiva's Customer Center worthwhile.

Is a good company to work for is your an assistant manager or higher. Key holders don't make much more than a regular sales associate with little to no benefits and is still considered a part time job. If you're lucky you will have a good manager that can work with you and your schedule and provide constructive feedback on how you can improve. The corporate management sucks very little to no communication with the store management and little regards to the associates during store visits makes it very well known that you are replaceable most managment is like this. The only full time positions are assistant manager and manager the rest is part time. Regular associates cannot work no more than 30 hours a week same with key holders. Very demanding job you have to uphold Godiva standard service at all times. 
You are expected to know most/all product information and prices, be flexible and move from the sales floor to the cash wrap to chocolate case on a regular basis and be on bar (making drinks, soft serve, and parfaits) and be able to do that with someone else helping and by yourself if needed. Associates help put away shipments and inventory and are also expected to help in dipping chocolate covered strawberries (daily basis) fruit for kabobs (as needed depending on store) many varieties of bark, coconut macaroons, caramel bars, truffle pops, different varieties of soft serve cones and seasonal options. Would recommend for temporary work as district management in some areas have made it so it's extremely difficult to be promoted due to bad calls made in the past but this isn't in all areas it depends on the district you're in. Also most shifts for associates and key holders tend to be 5 hours to 7 hours on busy days or if the store is short staffed.

Godiva was the most fun job I've had by far in my life, but unfortunately being paid less than $10 / hr for a management position didn't work out for me at the time. However if you are looking for an entry level retail job, this one is great! 

Workplace culture is based around the joy of experiencing chocolate with all 5 senses, so most customers are happy as soon as they walk in the door which is amazing. Plus we always get to offer them free samples so there's always a reason to get them talking and in a good mood. Selling comes naturally in a store like this and so does being perky and having a good attitude! 

My one complaint was that rather than consider applicants from within the store, when the Assistant Manager position was vacated someone outside the company was chosen to replace him. I wish they would promote from within to promote better camaraderie and encourage employees to stay longer. 

A typical day consisted of ringing up customers, gift wrapping, cleaning and stocking the store during down time, checking to make sure the Chocolate Case was at the proper humidity and temperature, and of course creating all our dipped and house made confections such as chocolate covered strawberries and chocolate truffle pops. 

The hardest part of the job was the inconsistent hours, especially around holidays, and when our hours would get cut in the off seasons due to a reduced employee budget. Say goodbye to your weekends, but don't expect to get more than 20 hours a week on average except in summer, and big holidays. The most enjoyable part of the job was the 40% off employee discount!

A typical day involved prepping cash registers and tempering chocolate immediately after entering (this was a very popular mall location, and you had to have a quick, concise routine). You had to greet customers and be ready to 'upsell' to each and every customer who came into the store, occasionally having to 'catch-&-grab' (sales technique) to bring customers into store on slow days (this is not a job for shy people). You had to be willing to clean at the end of your shift, which involved emptying of all trash, mopping entire store, washing all dishes and utensils for dipping and displays, and you had to restock entire candy case for the next shift's arrival. Knowledge of POS systems and how to complete till paperwork was required of all employees.

The management at the Godiva where I worked was totally awesome. I learned quite a bit from them, and sincerely enjoyed working for and with them.

Co-workers were mostly pretty young, (as most retailers are these days) and so often there would be a employee who did not show up or call in. That was where I became a full-time employee. I was extremely reliable.

The hardest part of the job would probably be when it was a rush during holiday season, or when it was a nice day and we just got a lot of customers (store was outside in a 'strip-mall' set-up where customers enjoyed strolling around during warmer months).

The most enjoyable part of the job was being able to work with so many different types of people, in an awesome beautiful setting, right at the mall.

On an average day I will come in at around 1 pm and start dipping/making product and selling. At 3 pm I report our sales and percentages to District Manager and again later in the day. Around 6pm I create the sales goals and percentages for the crew the following day, and fill out our GEBIS report. The rest of the day is selling, dipping, and closing the store.

I have learned an incredible amount about selling and positive self motivation, and I have also gained greater customer service skills on top of what I already knew.

The current manager of my store does an excellent job at managing our hours, salaries, work concerns, and our personal performance to efficiently sell our product. However I am not impressed at all with corporates selling demands, tactics, and misplaced values.

This current place of work so far has the best co-workers I have met yet! They are always positive and trying their hardest. I could not ask for a better team.

The hardest part about this job is the negatives re-marks and demands from corporate and working around the sights and smells of fresh Belgium Chocolate all day.

The best part about this job is that 99.99% of all customers leave incredibly happy because they are buying something very enjoyable. Communicating and socializing with happy customers makes my day incredibly enjoyable and gives me a sense of pride in my job.

Working at Godiva Chocolates consists of keeping the work place in a clean appearance, constantly interacting with customers, processing sells transactions, and sampling the product. Process of a clean work appearance is keeping product stocked on the floor and case, ensuring floor is trash free and counters wiped clean. Interactions with customers include providing product knowledge, advising what and why the product is fit for the customers needs, and building a relation with the customer even if its for a short time frame. Sells transactions is a simple task of checking customers merchandise through a register and continue to sell to customer and process payments for said merchandise. While sampling you provide knowledge to the potential customer and the taste of the product, in that few seconds of interaction you transform a potential customer into a customer. My favorite part of working with Godiva is interacting and building relations with the customer, knowing that what I say and how I present myself will leave a lasting impression on the customer to better their day and in the future they will remember this interaction and it will be one of the reasons they return to Godiva.

Opened store and cash registers by counting out tills, restocked any truffles or candied items in the cooler section for presentation to customers, began tempering chocolate for fruit dipping and confection decorating, preparing shakes for customers, contant restocking and cleaning.  Finally, at the end of the day, till reconciliation, cleaning and sanitizing all dipping equipment, and stocking as much as possible for the following morning.  Upselling was paramount here.

How to upsell effectively, and directly address all customers.

Management was friendly, efficient and helpful, however they made some very bad decisions regarding who to retain and who not to, as many of the employees were young and extremely irresponsible.

I was the oldest employee, and enjoyed the store, but only if I was either working alone, or working with a responsible employee (many were not).

The hardest part of the  job was getting ready for new seasonal displays.  This was brutal, and we would have to stay quite late sometimes to achieve the desired results, since this was considered a high end store, and no 'just okay' results were satisfactory.

The most enjoyable part of the job was that it was at a mall.  I am a female and well, let's just say I am not afraid to admit I loved working in a beautiful store.

I was hired during the holiday season, so I was concerned about how the fast-pace of learning and getting right into the action would affect my performance. I was silly to worry because even when I had questions or difficulty with something, I was able to get help easily from my coworkers and/or the management team. I quickly learned how best to support the team and how they could support me. It can be a bit intimidating to go into a small store like that with a group who had been working together for a long time, but they made me feel like part of the Godiva family right away. I was able to advance quickly from a seasonal associate to a permanent part-time key holder. The hardest part of the job is Valentine's Day. The boutique here is small (location-wise) so it was difficult to have so many people in the store at once, both working and shopping. We may have been zoned to specific functions, but you really just end up filling gaps that appear for what ever reason. It gets extremely chaotic and can be stressful. Fortunately, it is only a two-day stretch of madness (Feb. 13 and Feb. 14). Black Friday and Christmas are no where near as stressful, so Valentine's Day is the only real stressor in an otherwise wonderful job.
