They give paralegals an unreasonable amount of work to complete within a certain timeframe. They expect you to stay late working cases with no pay. You are penalized and threatened with termination if you stay late working on case files that you were instructed to complete. Pay is below average in comparison to other local attorneys. 

Most managers have no formal managerial experience prior to starting at GMIA. The vast majority of them enjoy keeping the behind-the-scenes rumor-mill churning. They wrap Gordon into their stories to help push false narratives and yield their little people power. It's almost humorous to watch unfold. 

I was hired with high hopes of a positive team-driven culture and I've been completely let down by nasty back-office drama. 

Most importantly, READ EVERY WORD OF THE EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK. They reprimanded me for checking my personal email while at work. Not only are they monitoring everything I do on my work AND personal computer, but they read through extremely private emails. When I asked the IT person why they were looking through my personal email account, he said that I should read the handbook. 

After having been here for over a year, I found my groove and I'm invested, but I have such an icky feeling about everything. 

Keep your head down and don't get wrapped up in the drama. It's all smiles, but every manager is talking about your performance behind your back. 



I am an attorney at GMIA and have been here a little over 5 years.  Gordon is actively involved in the day to day management of the company and is, in my experience, eminently kind and fair.  If you're good and caring to his clients and live by the golden rule, he will be very happy with you and you'll enjoy a fantastic career here.   You couldn't ask for a better boss.

The culture at the firm is family oriented and attorneys are encouraged to spend time with their families.  When I was first hired Gordon explained that we all have different "seasons of our lives" where you might need to focus more on family or other non-work commitments and he has always given me the flexibility to do just that. 

Compensation structure for attorneys is typical of plaintiff firms (commission based, you eat what you kill).  But in my experience coming from a competitor, I've done much better here than any other PI firm because of number and quality of cases assigned to me. 

I would (and do) recommend this firm to every attorney I know. There's no greater place to be as a PI attorney. 

What is the best part of working at the company?
Some of the people that I worked with, but not much else.

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Being micromanaged for everything.  Every manage was instructed to micromanage their employees.  Felt like a prison at times.  Unrealistic expectations and the consequence for not meeting them.  

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Not good.  No one was happy.  Many people that were there for a long time were there because he made them feel like they owed him.  He didn't think the culture had anything to do with him but he expected others to make it good.

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
Stressful especially if he or his daughter were in the office.  People would get in trouble for conversing with others.  You had to always look like you were working.

There's multiple GMIA offices across LA. As a full-time creative at the firm, I have met every face who contributes to this firm & I can confidently say that every person I've met is a genuinely great human being. At my particular office, I consider my coworkers some of my closest friends. I believe this type of job to be extremely rare, where you & everyone around you all share an authentic trust & care for each other. This job has more than allowed me to grow & take the time I need to learn skills that has benefited my position. Anything I've needed to excel has been provided without hesitation.

I highly recommend this job to any person in the creative industry & I firmly believe you wouldn't find anything better in this corner of the country.

Personal Injury Attorneys and their ilk have a public perception that for better or worse is something we have to deal with on a day to day basis. Of course, there are sharks out there who are only concerned with making a dollar and benefiting off of people's pain. However, some are different. Some can see the difference between a frivolous lawsuit meant to cash in on a broken system versus a struggling single mother working 2 jobs who just lost her only means of transportation. Gordon and crew are the latter.

We are focused on relationships first. As we grow, we need and want more willing participants to color and create the atmosphere that cultivates a love for people and for what we do.

I was terribly unhappy for the first year...not with GMIA but with the attorney "team" I worked with.  I feel that I gave it my all, but it was never good enough because this attorney had its cliques...and I wasn't in it.  When it got to be too much, I actually quit (on a friday)  HR asked me to stay..they would reassign me.  By Monday morning I had been reassigned and moved to a different floor (to avoid uncomfortable encounters with the other attorney) and now...I could not be happier.   Workload is soul-crushingly busy most of the times...but when you have the support of the right team ..it makes everything more tolerable.   I really love working for GMIA. ALTHOUGH...I have gained quite a few pounds from all the treats in the kitchen.   

I've worked for GMIA for over 11 years and I plan to be a retiree from this company. My fellow coworkers are like family!  Its is always busy, always work to be done, but its fulfilling to assist others that may need help. Compensation is on lower end, but is fair. Benefits are good. PTO and sick time are combined and it is great for someone who has been employed with company for several years, but for the first year or so of employment it isn't the best if you have little ones that are prone to sickness. Ability/flexibility on work hours helps for someone who may have kids in several sports and needing to leave a little early several days a week. Overall, a great company to work for.  

I have been in the legal field for 30 years and it took me that long to finally find a great place to work. GMIA is that place. While GMIA is large firm, Gordon goes out of his way to meet and get to know all the employees and he truly shows that he is appreciative of their work and encourages each and every employee of GMIA to treat ALL clients with the respect and understanding that each one deserves.  

I work in the Shreveport office of GMIA and can truly say that I look forward to going to work everyday.  The attorneys and all of the staff are helpful and show a genuine concern for one another.

This company has made some very poor management changes in the last 6 months. Micromanagement seems to be the new norm. They expect the paralegals to do jobs previously done by 3 employees and do not offer competitive pay or appreciation.
