Used this facility as my entry into this career field and was excited to get started. Began to learn that this place is far more focused on meeting TaTs and completing outpatient samples than they are about helping to listen to employees about ways to help things run more smoothly or prevent burnout.
Employee turnover is also pretty bad and expect that if you want to be there a year or more, you will likely be one of the vets within 3 months and will have to start training even if you are fresh out of training yourself.
Most of upper management was absent a lot of the times and were either way too busy to discuss issues or were completely oblivious to the long standing issues that have been hindering this facility. There are great people who have great ideas to help improve things but it just felt like there was no interest to change things unless we weren't meeting the aforementioned demands of TaTs and outpatients.
Nurses and doctors were hit and miss but that can be understandable considering the demands that they had to meet themselves but education and communication between the lab and the rest of the hospital is super poor. It felt like a majority of all the staff had no proper understanding of how the laboratory works or what we had to deal with in general.
Pay is pretty poor for what it should be at, MLT is ~$20 and MLS is ~$26, this is from my discussions with coworkers. Management sales this place as a good area because you don’t have to pay parking like at UAB or comparing to Gadsden hospital instead of trying to point out what Grandview does to help you and make you want to work for them.
Considering all this, there are some great people that work there. You tend to have to make your own fun and take everything lightly because everything feels a bit too serious there. Can be a good social environment but burnout is strong with pretty much everyone there so be aware. There is always plenty of opportunity for OT and can build up your paycheck pretty well in that sense, just don’t let them take advantage of you.
TL;DR version: This place can be a good entry point but don’t get complacent. It’s a large facility and the workload greatly outpaces the staff available so don’t overdo it. People are really nice and you kind of get what you put into it, don’t take it all too seriously.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Grandview is dedicated to a work ethic that's without parallel second to none. As a new hired, I was warmly welcomed into the workplace environment that reflected fairness, prompt and courteous service and also a place to develop, grow and enhance my skills as a chaplain.  I was treated with a quality of fairness, dignity and respect. I am very happy to be among the select candidates to serve others who are in the hospital as patients, and staff who are in need of emotional and spiritual support. I am blessed to be that individual to provide that type of specialized ministry in a hospital setting like Grandview Medical Center. Therefore, as a representative of God reflecting the Clinical Pastoral Care Department from a holistic perspective is what I have been called to do as a minister. In the words of the Prophet Isaiah who said, "Then I heard the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send as a messenger to this people? Who will go for us?  I said, "Here I am Lord send me." Isaiah 6:8.  

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
The most stressful part about working with the company in my initial appointment and hire date was getting acclimated to the floors and layout of the hospital setting and knowing where to go in time of crises and emergencies.  However, today that is no longer a problem. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
The work environment is not perfect but neither do we live in perfect world. I have learned to treat everyone with dignity and respect. Whether I get it in return or not. When I put God first and foremost in my life, then everything else will be added unto me.  The culture reflects a salad bowl mixture of different culture relativities and different perspectives. But you know that's what makes America so unique. The land of the free, and the home of the brave.  

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A day of ministry and service to others. Silver and Gold have I none. But what I have, I give I thee. When I look at life through the lens of helping others than my living and my work ethic is not in vain. And when this happens, I am then able to represent the company in a very genuine, caring, and unique loving manner.

Floor Nursing, Patient and Family Care on the Cardiac Unit is hard work 6-8 patients per day, not including admissions and discharges.  12 -14 hours per day caring for many patients that are so ill they need total care hourly. I love people and patients and families in need so i enjoy caring for and assisting and educating and listening to their needs. I learned quickly I would not be able to provide the type of patient care I had previously been able to provide. Management was very good but a transition in management took pace just a few weeks after I began working for Grandview, February, 2018 so change and transition take type with a new director on the unit by April, 2018. The new director did work diligently to review problems and to find good corrections to those management/staffing issues.  Teamwork among the RN's and PCA's was lacking and slowed work for the entire unit, i felt.  The hardest part was of this position was the physical work of turning patients and walking heavy yet weak patients, transferring patients to chairs and pushing heavy patient beds to other areas of the hospital, for example, Dialysis. The most enjoyable part of the job was the patients and their families and assisting in their care and education of the conditions they may be healing from presently.

I enjoyed working at Grandview Medical Center until I began expericing workplace harrassment in the form of prejudice. On multiple occasions I was harrassed to work although I wasnt required to work certain shifts. While being unable to compromise working such shifts I began being threatned wjth termination as well as write ups. After bringing the problem up to management, I was reprimanded. To put things in context, I work extremely hard going above and beyond to ensure quality service because I have a passion for healthcare. I have saved lives on many occasions from a patient coding while I was presemt to preventing a patient's family member from choking while eating in the food court. However, I was never acknowledged for these acts of selflessness. I wasn't looking for kudos, however I still faced harrassment from management. I wouldnt recommend working at this medical center especially within the laboratory.

The five years I spent at Grandview Medical Center was a great experience. I was challenged everyday to better my knowledge and skills.

My daily tasks ranged from only patient care to only lab work. Working in the lab I would process blood, urine, stool and body fluid specimens. Processing includes separating required amounts for specific departments, adding chemicals to maintain specimen integrity, ensuring all specimen requirements were met, and ensuring OSHA safety. In the lab I was challenged everyday with questonson the vast amout of lab tests that can be preformed. I learned something new everyday. We worked as a team, I could always lean on my co-workers and management for any questions I had.

The most enjoyable part of my job was the patient care. I would collect blood from our outpatients. I always wanted to make our patients feel welcome and comfortable. In doing so they would hopefully enjoy an experience that can be scary.

What is the best part of working at the company?
I enjoyed working with insurance and dealing with clients The company made sure you had all the tools you needed to do your task at hand. 
The hours were consistent and stability was there 
The paid time off and sick pay was good. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
At the time I was there the management showed favoritism and was very rude . Did not always give promotions when deserved. Work wasn’t always separated evenly. At times employees were set up for failure with the work coming from management. 

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Building is nice and neat, They have volunteer organizations and community help groups. They train all varieties of people so only some experience is needed

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
The day is typically busy and you never run out of work

Have to work continuously nonstop to get the work done, you cannot leave on time they say you (the whole (2-1030 shift) only have to finish the work before you leave!!!!! whatever time that is. sometimes is till 5:00am if you came in at 2pm-1030. They will make you feel bad if you want to go home. Bad turn over rate because no one is willing to work 5 days straight and stay over 12hrs + 5days  straight just to have the weekends off. They say there is no time for breaks even if you work constantly non stop only bathroom and a sip of water and sit back down. If you call off forget it the whole team will hate you and judge you even if you were sick or whatever your case is, why?? because they’re understaffed no one will ever go home on time it’s been months and nothings changed. This can be an enjoyable job with the right staff but that probably will never happen they lose all the good people.

Run for the hills! Being a financial counselor for Grandview is very stressful, its a tough position to hold. Situations and concerns that management should handle, they pass it to the financial counselors to handle because they don't want to deal with it. You have no support or help from management. Everything is thrown on the financial counselors list of responsibilities. Management is very poor and inconsistent. The department is understaffed for the responsibilities & workload that's placed on the counselors. The pay is low considering the workload, you're forced to fill-in in other areas and perform the duties of someone else outside of your job description. Management offers no relief or assistance when someone is out in the financial counselor area. Its hard to get time off within the department. 

Grandview is not recommended place to work

I’ve been here for 5 years. It was not bad when I first started. It’s gotten worse over the years and they have always said it will get better.. However, it’s just gotten worse. The patient to nurse ratios are not safe.  Especially on a faced paced floor that I work on. 7:1 patient nurse ratios. Imagine discharging all of them and getting 7 patients back. That’s 14 patients in a day!! Absolutely not safe. It’s like working at a human Sterlight warehouse.  Only thing I love there are the ppl I work with. And they will pay you well only if you get another offer else where. They are only doing that to get you to stay. Yes they do reimburse you for school and have a lot of opportunities to make money. In all honesty it’s a trap. It’s always some trickery involved and it’s not even worth the money. I was told this from the beginning and you really can’t see it until your to deep to get out because your stuck in a contract. 

It is common for nurses to start with 6 and 7 assigned rooms on medsurg, neuro, oncology, respiratory and rehab floors.  Acuity, including agitated/impulsive patients, does not reduce the number of assigned patients.  Nurses unfamiliar with floor that are floated receive same patient load.  Upper management frequently does not acknowledge e-mails from staff nurses, same for directors of other departments (HR, Infectious Disease, ect.)  Not sure why, but it is consistent.  Too much time spent looking for supplies- bladder scanner, wound care orders- but the supplies can only be obtained through wound care nurses- unable to get at night.
