Grange Insurance

Grange Insurance Association has been in existence for 125 years.  You don't stay in business that long by being a bad company with bad or shady people and/or ideals.  They care for their employees, they treat their customers extremely well, they obey the laws and the rules of insurance, and they always try to do the right thing.  They are becoming more innovative.  The people are good, honest, and hard-working.  The only draw back is that they do not pay as highly as what you would see at other companies, however, they have a great life-work balance mentality and you can't put a dollar sign on that.

Insurance is hard, there is a lot of stress inherent in this business, and working in a large cube farm with a slave driver boss can take its toll.  That is NOT the environment at Grange.  Insurance is still hard, but you are surrounded by people who want to help you do your best and succeed in all areas.  There's a lot of pride at Grange and there deserves to be.  It's a good place full of great people.

Grange is a changing, growing company going through the typical associated growing pains like staffing and salaries.  As insurance casualty claims departments go... Grange is better than the others ... but it's still claims. 
Grange has a great upper management team who actually care about their employees.  Management tries to be uplifting with games, lunches, quarterly awards and functions hosted by the fun committee. The CEO, Ryan, would often be on the claims floor just walking through or whatever but he would always make time to say hi (he knows your name!) or chat with adjusters.
The Grange claims floor is a melting pot of all of the other carriers and is an awesome opportunity to learn another perspective.

I went into work early, turned on computer and started printing the day before numbers for Manager, Supervisors.  Turned the phones on at 8:00 and then started my day.  

I took claims from insured's, agents and claimants (other parties) involved in accident or etc.  Typed business letters, forms, checks, transcribed statements, incoming and out going mail, UPS, FED X.

Ran copy, fax and scanning machines.  Looked up unmatched mail and got to correct adjuster and scanned to their files.

The hardest part of the job was talking to insured's on the phone that was in a car accident, lost a loved one (fatality) or a home.

The most enjoyable part of this job was how we all supported each other in the office environment, we weren't just co-workers there doing a job we were more like family.

In my role, I am fortunate enough to work with all departments and have not met a manager I didn't like. They all welcome suggestions on how to do things better and want every employee to succeed. Grange is very family oriented and everybody knows everybody. The CEO knows everyone by name and genuinely cares about you. This company as a whole also cares about your wellness. They offer fitness and yoga classes and have a great gym. The classes are fun and everyone you work out with encourages one another. The part I enjoy most about my job is working with the different departments and getting to know everyone.

A solid company that treats the insureds well. I really enjoyed working there. There were open discussions about files that were friendly and productive. When we went remote that all ended, it was more like being in a daily audit as opposed to constructive discussions concerning files. 

I had heard great things about Grange before starting, mostly from former coworkers that were now working there. My experience was not great though. No formal, trackable training - all processes are based on tribal knowledge being passed along, ZERO job expectations - other than “do a good job” (and when I pressed for clear expectations repeatedly I was called into a meeting with management to discuss why I wasn’t meeting expectations). The money may be good, but the workload is impossible.

I was hired to work as a Customer Service Representative. I spent half the day sorting through mail the other half working as the receptionist. When training me on the phones to do the job I was hired to do came around I had poor training. I was expected to know answers that I didn't know do to my doing work for other departments and not the department in which I was hired. I had a conversation with a co-worker that was over heard in regards to my frustration about the lack of training I received and the expectations that were upheld and next thing I know I was let go.

Poorly managed at every level. Disorganized.  No customer focus.  When a claims rep leaves, they  dont assign that persons work to other claim reps, they just wait for customers to call in and complain.  In Operations, there can be a backlog of requests that are weeks behind schedule, while there is another group of employees who dont have enough work to do.  No accountability for bad performance, or for supervisors who dont bother to try to fix anything, There is no customer focused, customer service leader in the company. 

The claims department is under staffed with high volume of claims. Most of the adjusters work weekends just to keep up because  if the don't  they find themselves on written report. It is the unspoken management  expectation.  No such thing as life work balance here. This company is just another insurance company looking out for the bottom  line.

No real plan for backup when out of office. Push work on new adjusters before they are ready.

Mostly good but was better under the old CEO.
