One would think with a 2 week orientation period you’d be more trained and prepared to hit the floor, but not the case at Granite Hills. The entire orientation 8-4 each day was spent listening to administration pat themselves on the back. Multiple times leadership forgot there was orientation happening and left us sitting in a room for hours. Training consisted mostly of health modules on the computer, and only 1 day to actually practice crisis intervention. They then throw you on the floor to “shadow” but you are expected to know how to do everything right away.   Management is an absolute disaster, if you have a problem, good luck getting in contact with someone as there’s no real established chain of command. Employees are just bodies. Extremely high acuity of patients and poorly trained staff is a recipe for disaster.  They are more concerned with opening more units and bringing in money than they are training staff and helping patients. I can’t stress enough how far away you should run from this job.

The pay is fair that is it as far as the positives go. The management does not care what is the input of the staff nor do they care about the safety of the staff. If you have a pulse you are thrown right into the thick of it no training, no caring if you are comfortable with the work and no care for safety. No staff are appreciated and management makes it clear that they really do not care about the staff that are directly involved in patient care.
All of the directors are concerned with profit  over staff and patients for that matter. Besides the fact that management could completely careless about the staff and patients, they are rude and most of them have attitudes when you are simply trying to do your job and ask basic questions.
The amount of turnover is so concerning and management really does not seem to care. 
If you are looking for a professional, safe, health work culture and actually appreciated as an employee, do not go to Granite Hills. 


The management across could not care less about their employees. It is a new facility that does not make up for the lack of caring from management or the terrible communication. The only thing this hospital cares about is making money. They do not care about the quality of care or actually making a difference to patients.

It’s sad that this community needs a behavioral health hospital like this and Granite Hills is not going to be the solution with this management and lack of caring.
 
Management changes things that affect employees and don’t communicate it to the floor staff. It is clear there is an us and them mentality when it comes to management and the rest of the employees. Every concern you have will not be taken seriously or even followed up on. Maybe if you have a management position you will enjoy working here but as a direct floor staff run far away. 

A typical workday involves a lot of disorganization on the unit. No HUC, so while trying to care for patients you are constantly answering the phone. High ratios for 1 RN to 8 patients, lots of staff call in daily. Hardest part of the job, not enough staff for safety. And lack of communication amongst the management and staff. Positives, great food and a beautiful hospital. Highly acute patients without security on staff and no restraint facility. Pay is decent, however they have many travelers. Good mixture of ethnicity among staff. Overall a lot of good staff that care. But poorly organized as in training and precepting staff.

Honestly, it has its good parts and it's bad parts. 

The good is that it does provide growth. You grow a thicker skin, how to communicate it crisis situations, take vitals signs and answer phones calls. While I've experienced bad, I'm grateful for the things it helped me grow in. Along with this, the pay is good 👍

I've enjoyed making an impact on the patients lives. But, I don't enjoy the lack of support and lies people say of me to others.

On the other hand, its very cliquey, gossipy, the communication is super poor, disorganized, disrespect, and the raises aren't good. This itself is just very frustrating and makes it a job to where you really learn how to deal with all of this and whether you can or not. 

There is a lack of management and care for the employees at this hospital. When concerns are brought up about employee and patient safety, there is no follow through or follow up. Even if the problem is talked about, corporate leaders minimize the experience and it’s stated as “we’ve always done this and we won’t change because we are an established hospital system”. They have a very outdated system that does not work for mental health anymore and their system is not only detrimental to employee mental health, but to the mental health of the patients they are supposed to serve.

What is the best part of working at the company?
Learning to work with a variety of patients with multiple disorders is amazing. See how little talks can help a person. Also having a strong team of nurses and behavioral techs is a plus. It's a learning experience. 

What is the most stressful part about working at the company?
Not being able to get the patients medicated due to their personal issues.

What is the work environment and culture like at the company?
Great all the staff members help out as much as they can. 

What is a typical day like for you at the company?
A lot of redirections, talking with patients,help keep all patients safe.

Granite Hills is not the place for anyone serious about healthcare, safety, or license protection. Management is unorganized and won't listen to the floor staff. HR is slow to respond. Staffing was constantly an issue for nurses and techs (many quit within the first week).  In my short time there I witnessed employees get attacked and multiple patients jump over the nurse's station. Also, there is no security if a rapid response occurs everyone is expected to come running and corral the patient, which in my personal opinion isn't safe or effective. Overall, Granite Hills is not the place for anyone serious about healthcare. Save yourself the trouble!

I was impressed by the way Granite Hills looked HOWEVER looks can be deceiving. Granite Hills lack security, training and professionalism. During my short stint(yes stint, felt like I was in prison)there, it was a huge circus. Management is absolutely clueless on the way to operate their departments. Some of the staff had to school management about referencing to policy and procedures. Management make up rules on a daily basis! If you’re not seasoned in your profession, you will not know where to turn for clear direction. The one thing they got right, was hiring a good chef! Food is absolutely delicious.

Anyone looking to apply for a position at Granite Hills hospital should just not do it. It is an extremely unorganized facility, management has no clue how to run a behavioral health facility and many of the upper management and corporate people are extremely rude and belittling. There is a huge lack of training as most that they have in charge have never worked a day in that dept/ field. The pay is decent but the benefits and PTO are terrible. The facility is extremely unsafe for both the staff and patients as they have an extreme turn around of staff due to that and they honesty just hire anyone off of the streets.
