Great hospital to work for until they merged with Burlington and made Southeast Iowa Regional Medical Center.  They try to operate the small critical access hospital like a level 3 trauma center which doesn’t work for obvious reasons.  Management turnover is high with little support to staff, mostly travelers working or new grads.  Unsafe.  No support from management.  They use Cerner.  Long patient wait times in the ED.  Unorganized hospital wide due to the recent merge.  Tenured staff are leaving in droves.  Pay is bare minimum.  The benefits are terrible, they are aimed at getting you to use their hospitals for all of your medical needs so you pay more for not using their providers.  Mandatory OT.  No room for advancement as their higher up management team is very tenured.  You will get written up for EVERYTHING.  Even supervisors.  I would not work for this hospital if they doubled my pay.  

There’s no work life balance. You’re scheduled to work 3 days a week and every single day they text you and ask you to pick up shifts. Long hard hours and unrealistic expectations. They don’t treat you well and don’t care about your health and safety. They told me I needed a chickenpox vaccine but that I would have to wait a month to get it. They forced me to take care of a patient with shingles during that time. I hurt my back and they gave me Tylenol and said you’re fine. No incident report. Some nurses refuse to help you when you have a huge work load. You are not guaranteed any lunch or break. I was lucky to get a 30 minute uninterrupted lunch. Not to mention most places pay $20 an hour for a CNA but they only pay $16. If they give you a sign on bonus they take $100 out of every check until it’s paid back. 0/10 would not recommend. Good luck if you decide to work there. 

Aides are overworked and underpaid on a daily basis. There are some pitiful attempts at times to placate by offering pizza or iced coffee along with a "we appreciate everything you do". Followed up by mandated shifts and being jerked around by staffing. Pick up a shift somewhere, and more than likely you'll be put someplace else, and they don't care so long as it gets "bodies on the floor". They say to ask for help if you need something, but when asked they tell you to figure it out. They put up with completely unacceptable behavior from employees simply in the interest of not wanting to have to fill one more hole. The new CEO was brought in to cut costs and save money, and yet they're vomiting money by buying up all the surrounding medical facilities, building new ones, changing signage, changing logos, etc.

My direct managers were okay to work with, but a lot of the staff I worked with had been there for years and were lazy because they settled into bad routines and habits and none of management did anything to change that. One of the lowest paid facilities in the area for CNAs, LPNs, and RNs. Some good benefits but benefits don’t pay my bills. Over worked. Understaffed. Way under paid and under appreciated. The hard workers get more work and criticized while the lazy workers get praised for simply doing par level jobs. I loved my patients and my actual job but the people running the place could come do our jobs, the actual work, and see how under paid we are and realize why nobody wants to work here.

If you enjoy helping elderly residents in their day to day lives, then this is the job for you. The job is physically demanding and there is always something or someone needing your attention. If you like fast paced work, where you are always on the go, apply here!  The best part about this job, is that the residents become like family to you, the bonds you create are unbreakable.

THEY ENCOURAGE TELLING ON COWORKERS SO U CANT TRUST ANYONE! ITS A HOSTILE WORK ENVIROMENT AND THE HARDER YOU WORK THE MORE A TARGET IS PLACED ON YOUR BACK

Company cares about it's employees.  Great clinic atmosphere.  Friendly staff.

Can be fast paced at times, but not something that can't be handled with communication and teamwork.

Greeting patients with a friendly smile.  Scheduling patients on the phone.  Various clerical tasks.

I worked there for 14 years. When I left the weight lifted off my shoulders immediately. I experienced nothing but stress, negativity & poor management due to favoritism/lack of having a backbone. They enable the bad eggs & don’t appreciate the employees who do their job sufficiently. It’s basically a high school w/ cliques/popularity contest. A lot of gossip & backstabbing. Most (not all) departments treat others rudely or think they’re better than others. Insurance is not great. Very low raises & zero bonuses.

If you know people within the health system you might have a fighting chance. Otherwise the work environment is reminiscent of high school. If you have any sort of disability you will be forced out. Management definitely takes care of their own as well so if you have any concerns good luck getting them addressed or even taken seriously. It's a very toxic place to work due to the favoritism and the politics.

I cleaned the patient rooms and offices in the hospital.  I have learned every position in the housekeeping department in the hospital . The employees help each other to make the hospital a better place for the patients while they are healing. I would have to say the hardest part about  working at the hospital is remembering it is a hospital. Everyone there is very happy and welcoming and it is a wonderful place to heal.
